Shahjahan : The Great Mughal Emperor
All true art has its origin in sentiment...... Mughal emperors were men, they were not mere administrators. They lived and died in India, they loved and fought. The memorials of their reign do not persist in the ruins of factories and offices but in immortal works of art - not only in great buildings but in pictures and musics and workmanship in stone and metal, in cotton and wool fabrics.- Ravindranath TagoreShahjahan, The rise and fall of the mughal emperor, is the story of Khurram aka Shahjahan, the fifth mughal emperor of Hindustan.Shahjahan is known worldwide for the construction of the Taj Mahal, in the memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. In fact Shahjahan's reign is remembered because of his passion for art, architecture and aesthetics, be it the city of shahjahanabad (old delhi), Jama masjid (New Delhi), and the magnificent Peacock throne were built during his reign. But the life of Shahjahan was not linear, In fact he had seen so many ups and downs in his life, like he had killed his own brothers for the mughal throne, incarcerated the favorite wife of Jahangir, nurjahan, he rebelled against his father, Salim aka Jahangir, and later when he became old he was incarcerated and dethroned by his son, Aurangzeb Alamgir. But before we talk about Shahjahan and his life, i wanna tell you one thing for sure, that if you are not aware of the basic facts on the Mughal history then don't go for this book, because it will create confusion.Shahjahan was born in the majestic city of lahore, his father Salim aka Jahangir was the fourth Mughal emperor, and his mother was a rajput hindu princess. Shahjahan grew up under the guidance of his grandfather, Akbar the great. And as a son of the fourth Mughal emperor, Jahangir, shahjahan served his father faithfully, but later his relationship with his father became soured because of nurjahan, and because of which he rebelled against his father for the Mughal throne, but he didn't succeeded, and that's why for several years he wandered like a wayfarer from one place to another. But the wheel of fortune turned in the favor of shahjahan when his father-in-law, Asaf khan, father of mumtaz Mahal, outsmarted all the rivals of shahjahan, and helped him in regaining the Mughal throne. And with the help of Asaf khan he became the fifth mughal Emperor of hindustan and he ruled Hindustan for thirty years. But the end of Shahjahan was very tragic, he was incarcerated in Agra by his son, Aurangzeb. His favorite and eldest son Dara sikhon whom he considered as his successor was brutally murdered by Aurangzeb for the mughal throne. And at last shahjahan died as a broken man and got buried alongside with his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal in Taj Mahal, Agra.Although this book on Shahjahan is quite informative but not that comprehensive, but those who loves reading about history, especially the Indian history can go for this book. And according to me the language of the book is also not that easy.My Ratings : ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5)I hope you like this, Shukriya for reading, Jai Hind.

they never steal properties and send those to their back home like British did
Learn the glorious muslims rule and mixed with the society, built india and finally died in the same soils, they never steal properties and send those to their back home like British did. The mughals became the son of the soil of india. that was the main different between other foreign rulers.

A riveting read. Shows the many facets of this enigmatic king. Not that all these facets are admirable, but the book does an excellent job in revealing them in a manner that makes for an engrossing read. Like his days as a renegade prince abandoned to oblivion and powerlessness. And then his subsequent rise to the helm of the wealthiest and most powerful empire in the 17th century. Would recommend to a friend.

Shah Jahan
A wonderful book! I never knew the extent and power of the Mughal Empire. This story has it all: the inter-family struggles, the assasinations, the power grabs. Beautiful layout and a story told brilliantly.
