Fantastic
When we start Renovating our 1920s home we had uncovered a Hidden treasure. I always wanted a fireplace just for decoration and this was a perfect opportunity. But After cleaning off all the plaster I want it's something to seal the fireplace without altering the Original look. I came across this stuff, the price seemed reasonable and seemed to be what I was looking for. I am telling you, this stuff is FANTASTIC, No odor, easy to use, Easy clean up and does the JOB! It puts me in the mind of a water down glue or maybe like mod podge. Dries quickly, with a A very mild satin finish. You can wipe it, and The very best part no more mortar falling out!!!! I even Put it in a spray bottle to apply inside the fireplace. It says you can apply 2 coats but one did the trick. I give this stuff 5 stars and will use it to apply to the rest of the chimney. I posted pictures the first one is from before using this product, you can see it doesn't change the look.

The perfect sealant for interior brick
We bought this sealer for the first brick wall we exposed in our 1905 home and it worked like magic. Since then, we have used it on two additional walls as well. Anyone that has exposed an old brick wall knows that the amount of dust is insane and even touching the brick releases a cloud of dust. We were desperate for a solution that would limit the need to vaccuum and sweep dust and debris from the wall. From the second we applied this sealer, the dust was trapped in. It’s been on for over a year now and we are still completely dust free. We applied 2 coats with a roller and brush and found application to be super easy. It has a slight shine which gives the brick a finished look without ruining its character. Before stumbling upon this sealer I researched home improvement store products and they were double the price and half the quantity. I can’t speak from experience but I’m sure they would not do a better job. I had to leave a review because this product is really amazing!

seals but no shine
Would like to give 3.5 stars, but not possible. Application is relatively easy, I used a brush and a hand sprayer. Starts milky white with bluish tint and dries out clear. Seals dust in between brick well. I did not have any issues with milky white residue like other people wrote. Once it's dry - it is clear. I was hoping for little sheen, kind of a wet look, like advertised - that did not happen. Color stayed exactly the same. I applied 2 coats in some places and once it dried out - no difference. Otherwise it is a fine product. I would still use it again

Worked great on crumbly brick
I have a crumbly, rough brick half wall that was constantly spalling off little rocks onto the floor. Pain in the !!!! to maintain! I put two coats of MasonryDefender Brick Sealer on it and the result is great. No more spalling, no color change and the satin sheen is unobtrusive. Worked perfectly.

Fixed Crumbing Brick / Brick Dust
I have a large exposed brick wall, the home is over 130 yrs old, and the brick is original. I had 8 total bricks that must have been missed with the sealing process when the home was rehabbed. They were constantly shedding dust and at times pretty large flakes, even small rocks if they got bumped. I got this, used a handheld spray bottle that I cleaned out, tested a few i found around the house, looking for the one that produced the finest mist. I prepped by using by handheld dyson with a soft brush, vacuumed very gently the day before, then the day of I used the crevice tool and just placed it on each brick, bit by bit, and held it to get all the loose material. Sprayed the brick after a good mix of the sealant, I sprayed (this stuff is basically water consistency) pretty heavily, waited 2 hrs then did it again. I had intended on then brushing the sealant on, but there was no need. Now that it is fully dried I have touched and brushed the brick with nothing coming off. Its like a glue almost. It did leave a slight sheen, but the bricks are just above the base board and its not noticeable. Over a few months it will probably mellow out. Very happy, and surprised that it worked so well on 2 of the bricks that were really shedding material. FYI I have a handheld pump sprayer but its coverage was going to be way to aggressive for the job at hand, if you need to do a whole wall, I think a pump sprayer would be the ideal tool.

A Nightmare To Remove if You Mess Up
I bought some of this last year and tested it inside the utility closet of my 1929 condo with exposed brick walls. The test turned out pretty good, but because I didn't clean the bricks the grout lines ended up turning a little pink. So when planning out the primary walls I decided to give them a good cleaning before. A hugely important step for this product is ensuring your bricks are TOTALLY DRY before applying it. I made the mistake of not letting my bricks dry enough. I used a decent amount of water when cleaning them but after doing so, I put every fan I had on them including a couple of industrial fans. I ran the central air as well and used a dehumidifier, for a total of 48 hours. The bricks felt totally dry to the touch at this point and the humidity in the room to 42% which is pretty low for the summer. I masked off my walls and followed the instructions, using a sprayer to apply the sealer. After about 30 minutes the product started to turn milky. I hoped that in time when it dried out it would turn clear, but it never did. Now I'm scrambling to figure out a way to get this product off. Someone said acid might work but I've tried various concentrations of a "heavy duty acid cleaner" I got at Lowe's with no luck. It looks like Xylene might take it off but that's a heavy-duty stripper that can cause explosions if used indoors. What a nightmare! I'm sure this is a decent product if you apply to masonry that is TOTALLY dry as I did have good results in my utility closet. However, I feel the instructions could be more clear. The advise should be to wait like 7 days for the bricks to dry. In addition, I tried to contact the company via their 800 number and it goes to a dead end. On the attached the before photo is the 1st one and the after photo the 2nd one. It looks much worse in-person.

I've added 2 generous layers on my brick wall and it's still like before. I was expecting a varnish style finish that would help me control the "brick dust" effect and... nop. I saw a MINOR improvement, but not as advertised. I need to find a different product now... waste of time and money.

The product was very chunky. Didn’t go on smooth. Looked like coconut shavings almost. I tried to shake the jug and constantly stir it but remained very chunky. I need to buy a new product because this didn’t go on the brick well and it doesn’t appear sealed
