Can it be used without the activator

Yes, it can. It just takes a lot longer to set. It's like 3-10 seconds with the activator and probably around 30-60 seconds without.

Can you use another brand activator?

I would assume that the chemical compounds used to make the adhesive are the same, so an activator from different manufactures would be compatible.

Can this be used on a vinyl floating floor in the joints to bond to planks together ?

I have used 2p10 in construction and cabinet work for 15-20 years, and in my experience works on many different materials. The primary criterium is the two parts need to fit closely. As for your planks, it would depend, in my opinion largely on the thickness of the planks. If the planks were only 2-3 millimeters thick, maybe not. Movement of the planks after the fact could also be an issue.

My bottle has gotten too thick. Is there anything I can use to thin the gel?

I would throw it away and get another bottle. If you keep the bottle in a refrigerator, it will usually last 2 years. I don't think I would try to add anything to thin it down, you don't what to get this adhesive on you. It is my favorite but please respect it.
