This will replace a Rheem SP21058 with modifications
My water heater died over the holiday weekend, as they never die at a convenient time! πIt's a Rheem XG40S09HE38U0, 40 Gal, bought from Home Depot. I don't recommend buying from Home Depot, but that's a tale for another time.Anywho, tech support had me test everything and we determined it was a failed pilot thermopile. They could ship one to me, 4 business days with no hot water, or I could try to find one locally. I tried option C (Amazon) with this handy little pilot assembly. It is a bare bones no frills solution. What this means is you need to be careful with the gasket when removing the burner. Also, in order to seal the burner back up you will need to solder the thermopile wires after cutting them to pass the wires thru the rubber plug. I also had to ream the smallest hole in the plug with a 1/4" drill bit to get the spark wire thru it with it's high temp insulation intact.Everything from there went together smooth and I swear the blue light is flashing twice as bright as before π

Defective, and not compatible with my Kenmore Model 153.330250 water heater
Arrived quickly and appeared to be well made, but I had to return it. The thermopile was non-functional. As checked with a multimeter, the thermopile was found to be open circuit; it should have had a very low resistance of about 4 ohms to produce the specified 750 mV. Also, the white braded insulation around the thermopile cable made the diameter a bit too large to go through the burner door's manifold component block. The original thermopile cable used a metal ribbon wrap around its insulation, resulting in a smaller diameter. Lastly, while at first glance the assembly looked near identical to the OEM original, on closer inspection it was found to be a mirror image. That resulted in its mounted position to be somewhat different, enough to cause installation interference issues.

Honeywell gas control valve
Works like charm with Honeywell gas control on 2011 AO Smith 40 gallon WH. Would not hold pilot. Suspect thermopile getting weak. Plus this refresh every thing.

Worked on Rheem 40gal water heater
Install it on Rheem 40 gal water heater, it came with the extra orfic for LP Gas, it comes with the Naturl gas inside the pilot , make sure you use the correct one, they are NOT marked, you need to look through it and LP will be the smallest opening Also the red wire comes with plug in for a sensor, just solder the wire together, if your sensor isnt present. This is best cheaper replacement, compared to what a Rheem pilot and thermocouple cost ,and build better
