Large laptop. Small icons.
I was looking to upgrade my 5-year-old ASUS Zenbook laptop. For context, I use my laptop for relatively small-scale data analysis, word processing, research, reading, graphic design in Adobe Illustrator (I'm a bioengineering PhD student) as well as for browsing the web, watching TV shows, etc. I'm not a gamer or audio/video producer or anything like that, but I definitely use it more intensely than just for checking emails or messing around in Office applications. Overall, this laptop suits my needs. The keyboard, mousepad, and fingerprint sensors are are responsive and pleasant to use. The screen is BIG and a little more square shaped than what I am used to. The laptop is thin and while definitely not light, not so heavy that I can't put it in a backpack and bike to campus. It's done all the tasks I've asked of it quickly and without any issue. If I had one complaint, it would be the size of unchangeable text. The default settings are tiny icons and tiny text compared to how large they were on the laptop I used to have. I adjusted the text and icon size in Settings, but text within applications (such as in OneNote or on the Google Chrome bookmarks bar) deon't change which is annoying. Overall, I'd recommend this laptop. Just consider getting some magnifying glasses to go with it :) Side notes: 16" laptop cases are a little big on the sides, so I'm testing different 15" and 15.6" cases for a snugger fit.

Poor port design and noisy cooling
I feel pretty dumb for not noticing that the Inspiron 7640 only has one USB-C port. That’s a dealbreaker if you're using a portable USB-C monitor, because there's no way to power both the monitor and charge the laptop through a single adapter and a single cord. My last three laptops (Dell, LG, and Lenovo) all had two USB-C ports, so I didn’t even think to check. Also, the fan is loud, much louder than any of those previous machines. Returning it. Poor port design and noisy cooling make this a disappointing step back.

Nice laptop
This is my first laptop purchase, so I don't have much to compare it to. I like the screen size for sure. My only regret is not getting one that has a number pad. Other than that, it is a great laptop!

Is this even a new laptop?????
I ordered and just received this laptop. The laptop didn't come in a Dell box. It was wrapped in bubblewrap, no paperwork or information sheets, and it was flopping around in a HUGE shipping box. I'm returning it and I'm SO mad.

Not new.
Computer was well used, not new! There was several scratches and scuffs on item. Nothing was wrapped like it was new! Beware!

Bad deal. Overpriced.
This is a bad deal at 1TB ssd. The same machine is available for the same price with 2TB on amazon. Bad deal.
