Item arrived in perfect condition and works properly.

Fooled me once.
I hooked up the Item, watch the new MH 1000 Fire off, I left for 20 minutes, and came back to a bad smell, a burned out 1000 W MH bulb, and receptacle, and ballast.

runs hot.
I had to buy this because the other brand of 1000w ballast failed on me. This one works, but it gets REALLY hot. it's over 60C in some places, almost to the point it will burn your skin on contact. I have never had a digital ballast that runs this hot. It also seems to be flickering the light, jumping from around 930watts to 1030watts. Hopefully this isn't the thermal protection being broken and kicking on constantly. It's supposed to dim to 80% at 80C and turn off at 90C, based on chassis temp (From the wording in the manual) but maybe the thermometer is pressed against a component or a component is pressed against the chassis. I'm going to have to keep an eye on it unfortunately. I have a fire extinguisher and smoke detector right near it, just in case. Like I said, I've never had a digital run this hot before and I'm a little concerned.

Does what it says and does it well! No noise - smart functions and quality feel. It’s a ballast. It’s not next best thing since sliced bread but that is not it’s fault. Ballasts are not exciting and excepted for geeks and those with GAS (gear acquisition syndrome) they never will be. It’s priced right for a working product! Will buy again!

Great units. Super quiet
Great units. Super quiet, very low operational temperature. Experienced some troubles using low quality MH bulbs but was remedied by upgrading to tru blue 6500x. Highly recommended for those looking for compact quiet ballasts
