Set seeds in cardboard pots ready for next spring

I love poppies these looked lovely and I like peonies so took pot luck and sewed the seed straight in the soil they soon came up one looking like poppies and the rest like giant weeds so we ended up with one has you can see by the photos they are not peony just a single poppy would not wait your money

Poppy seeds came in tiny little plastic bags looking like they had just been scraped off the top of a seeded bread loaf... Not very professional

I struggle with this just as the seeds have struggled to see light of day. Did I plant them too late???

I know there's no guarantee how they grow, about 10 seeds arrived, only 2 germinated, not worth sending for, disappointed
