A-M Gutter Guard 5" x 200 Ft Mill Finish Aluminum, Leaf & Debris Protection

*4 Year Update at end* I am a 60 y/o woman and I just installed 50' of these A-M 6" gutter guards on my 5.5" gutters (with no help from anyone), and the whole job took me about 3-4 hours. They were a perfect fit, although I had to bend the back of them in some places in order for them to seat properly (due to my gutters not being even). The length/side that goes against the drip edge was easy to bend just by hand, but the entire guard is sturdy, and seem to really strengthen the gutters as well once installed. The total length I needed was 50' and this box of 50' fit perfectly...they have about a 1" overlap cut into one end of each 4' piece, so adding in extra inches/feet to account for overlapping is not necessary (in other words, the 50' box covered 50' of gutter including an inch or so overlap on each piece). Last year I paid a few hundred dollars to have guards installed on my front gutters, and I just noticed what a terrible job was done when I had to get on a ladder for other reasons ( a different guard was used, but very similar to this product). I ended up removing every piece and reinstalling it properly, so I already knew what tools I'd need to install these guards on my back gutters. I found that using a scratch awl & hammer to help start the screws was necessary, mainly on the drip edge side of the guard which is not pre-punched/drilled (this would be my only complaint about this product. Having pre-drilled holes, or at least an indent, would have helped greatly and I'd have given a 5 star rating. There ARE pre-drilled holes every several inches on the side that lays on top of the outer edge of the gutter.). Aside from a scratch awl & hammer I also used good set of tin snips, cordless drill, an extension "thing" (don't know what it's called) to hold a 1/4" hex shank screwdriver bit and #8 x 9/16" socket hex drive sheet metal screws (in the future I'll replace these with stainless, but couldn't find any at this time). These worked perfectly on the gutter edge side, and for the most part on the drip edge side...in a few places I had to use a 1" long screw because nothing about my gutters seems to be even. Depending on your type of roof you may be able install these by just sliding one side under your shingles and then securing the 'outside' to the gutter edge, but this wouldn't work for me...i secured both sides with screws. You could probably get by with 4 screws per section, but I put more to ensure they lay flat - and we're in a hurricane area. Properly installed, I can't see how leaves could possibly enter the gutters, or any other object aside from perhaps roof grit or something very small. Leaves will build up somewhat on top of the guards, which seems to be the case with most of them, but they're easily brushed off. Having extensively researched gutter guards, none seem to be a perfect solution...but these were definitely the right price, easy to work with, fit my 5.5" gutters and are definitely sturdy. I wouldn't expect to have to remove them to clean whatever might make it's way into the gutters anytime soon, but time will tell. We have oak trees that drop leaves 24/7/365 and the similar guards that I have on the front of my house seem to have done a decent job keeping the leaves out even with the poor install that had been done...so I expect these guards to perform as well or better. Instructions in the box show how to miter the corners...easy to do, and easy to cut with tin snips. *Update: It's Dec. 2023 and I stand by everything I said about these leaf guards - even bumped my rating up a notch to 5 stars. We've had zero problems with leaves or anything else clogging our gutters. They've literally been maintenance free. I do have to clean leaves off of the top of them at the corners twice a year, but that has nothing to do with the guards. They have held up just fine & haven't rusted or had any other issues. Great product.

We used these gutter guards a couple of years ago on the half of our house that was exposed to the most trees and they work so well that we decided it is time to complete the work and we installed them on the other side. They are so easy to install that seniors were able to install them! These guards have kept our gutters clean and the rain flowing out properly so our basement is not getting flooded! Needless to say, we are delighted!!

I installed these myself to my 6” gutters in 2021. They did a fantastic job of keeping sycamore leaves, twigs, and fuzzy seed balls from clogging my gutters. They took a beating in a massive hail storm in September of 2025. Insurance covered the cost to replace my guards and they saved the gutters from being destroyed. I replaced them with the same brand and appreciate how well they do the job. I really appreciate not having to climb ladders and scoop slimy crap out of my gutters. A-M for the win.

I am still to see how the guard will work. At least they are sturdy and easy to install. One batch had minor manufacturing defect though. I purchased three boxes, 200’, 100’, and 23’. The 100’ batch had the mounting holes punched too close to the inner edge of the guard lip, meaning that they are very close to the outer edge of gutter lip. See the picture. Most of the time I still managed to run the screw through the gutter, but in two or three places the screws slid off the gutter lip. Very inconvenient. Some notes about the installation. Somewhere there was a recommendation to screw the guard at every two feet. When you estimate how many screws you will need, take into account that you want a screw at each end of the guard panel plus one somewhere in the middle. You will likely need more at the corners and sometimes where the panels join. More on this below. And of course, you are going to drop an occasional screw. All in all, it is more reliable to count the screws per panel, not per foot; four screws per panel being a conservative estimate. You hopefully will need a bit less, but better to be on the safe side. It’s not a nice proposition to run out of screws in the middle of the day. The guards are designed with the specific shape of the hangers in mind. Hangers on my gutters have the part with the screw longer than on the manufacturer’s picture, so they did not fit so nicely inside the guard profile. I managed to install the guards almost seamlessly except in a few places where I had to “pull” the guard over the cap of the hanger screw. If in doubt, order the sample and test the fit. Somebody complained that if the join between the guard panels happens to be far from the hangers on either side, the ends of the panels will sag. Somebody else recommended to screw the upper side of the guard to fascia in such places. On my roof, the part of the fascia above the gutter and the edge of the gutter itself is covered with rather thick plastic panel, so screwing the guards to fascia is practically impossible. Instead, I screwed the panels together through the overlapping tab. This provides satisfactory sturdiness to the join. I did the same in the corners where two panels overlap at the right angle and form a vertical gap (because of the profile) where the debris can easily be blown in. A screw or two was enough to press the ends tightly together and close the gap. It is infeasible to pierce the screw through the flimsy underneath panel because there is nothing to push it against. I used a hooked awl which I put through a hole in the upper panel and pulled the lower panel up while I was piercing the screw with the screwdriver. I installed about 300’ of the guards, 79 panels (more than 20’ still to go when the weather will permit). My roof has many corners, and I cleaned the gutter as I went (to set the ladder only once in each place). I did first 90’ of mostly straight gutter over concrete surface in about 4 hours. The rest took me almost 12 hours (in three days). It went much slower because there I had almost all the corners and because the soil surface under these parts of the house requires much more time to properly set and level the ladder.

The installation was easy, they worked as advertised, happy with how they installed. Shipping was fast, installation was fast. Very happy, definitely worth the price and recommend.

I purchased these A-M Gutter Guards for both our house and barn, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. These worked well and installed pretty easily. I was initially worried that they wouldn’t allow enough water through the holes and would run over the top of the guards so I installed a 100’ section and watched during a couple of heavy rains, they handled the rain without issue. I also installed a couple of diverters and they worked great. Plan on a couple of hours for each 100’, I think I spent about 8-9 hours installing 400’. Moving and securing the ladder takes the most time, installing the guards was pretty quick. A couple of tips from my experience 1. Watch the installation video on the A-M website for installation tips and cutting 2. Cut the corners on the ground ahead of time 3. Use stainless steel screws and a magnetic bit 4. Don’t lean the ladder against the gutter as it makes it hard to get the pieces in place

These are simple to install and work great. I have gigantic jack pines that spit pinecone and needles all summer. The needles and pinecones get caught and eventually blow off. I also have large elm trees and they work great fo I am going to put them on my cottage now. Make sure to get the correct size, there are 5" and 6" sizes. They do not come with screws. I bought some 1/4" hex head stainless steel screws that worked great. I used 3 screws in each section. These are easy to cut to length with tin snips.

At first I thought the product was the wrong size for my 5" gutters but all I needed to do was slightly bend the back edge slightly upwards by hand and they slipped in tightly with no issues. Cutting 45° angles for the corners is no problem if you watch the instructional video on their sight. Just installed so we'll see how well it handles the leaves and heavy rains we sometimes get. Cannot see it from the ground. Will update if there are issues.
