Great quality - a real keeper
I've had similar units to update some old vehicles. The upgrade, especially for GPS and controlling phone apps, is huge. I confess to being tempted to text and drive and fiddling with my phone at the worst times. I think these CarPlay/Android Auto systems can improve safety. Since three of my older vehicles don't have in dash GPS I used to do directions on the phone. It's just not safe but this device will help. The use case for these things is strong. The use case for this one in particular is stronger. CarPlay/Android Auto are standards but the makers can make a difference with better hardware and system integration. Some of the value here is the ATOTO brand. I've been impressed with their other products I've reviewed. First, it's bigger then my last one from a generic builder. It also has a good, solid feel. Everything from the packaging to the accessories to the unit itself have a good qualify feel. The screen is high quality and made to battle with light in the car. The 9 inch QLED display sports 1280x720 resolution. It is visible at almost any angle and is less affected by glare. The difference from cheaper screens is huge. I don't watch video when driving but if I did, the screen mirroring supports it and it would look great on this screen. As with all CarPlay/Android Auto systems, your phone does most of the work. There are two sides to these systems though. Before starting CarPlay/Android Auto you can adjust audio, screen and other preferences. It's also allows online updates of the system. There are also some native apps built in, outside of CarPlay/Android Auto. There is a music player that will use USB and/or the built in micro SD slot to play my favorite music. Where we live there are no AM/FM stations and cell coverage is spotty. Having all of my favs on board is great.Once into CarPlay/Android Auto my phone takes over. The default is to display the phone's GPS and music player, in my can Plex. When I get a text, this system really shines. I can ask it to read the text and reply - all hands free. The google translation of my spoken words is very accurate. There are nice touches throughout. For example, the white dot you see on the picture opens a window with home and power off buttons. That saves me fishing around the back for the power button when I need it. The mounting system is varied to fit almost anywhere. A sticky mat, added to the arm with the suction cup is super strong. The cup is not only soft rubber, it's sticky and holds tightly. The power plug is for 12v car plugs. Even there they upgraded to add two USB A ports and an Aux audio jack. The trade off there is that the plug cable is a little thicker than a USB cable. The back sports USB C and a camera port.I use the built in FM transmitter for apps that are native, like the SD card music player. It's easy and sounds great. The include an Aux cable, small black zip ties for cable routing and all the little things you'll need.As you can probably tell, I'm a fan of this unit. One thing I dislike about all of these is the marketing. They say, for example, that they have GPS. All it actually does is display the phone's GPS. They are integrated so the features you see on the screen are better than on the phone. Since the phone is not busy showing the map, it changes to show turn by turn text. The combination is powerful. Rather than providing GPS, it enhances it.

Some really great features but...
There is a lot to like about this device. This is the 4th different Android Auto device I've tried and it is definitely the best one, but, with a few things that could be improved.First... the screen is excellent. QLED is really a must for on-dash screens. Glare is manageable even the the worst conditions. Don't bother with anything less, you'll hate it.Next... Auto-dimming is a feature I didn't expect in this price range. It works very well and it saves a ton of hassle trying to switch between day and night modes. The problem with the other devices I tried is that once power goes off, the devices have limited capacity to remember the time and date. So when I turn the device back on after a long weekend sitting in the garage, it thinks it's noon instead of 9PM and I get full brightness day mode. The auto-dimming feature is a huge win.Generally, the device works well in most respects. Connects with the occasional glitch but not too often. Software is easy to navigate. Speech recognition is quite good for dictating text messages. Really well done there.I have 2 issues that keep this from being a 5-star review.1. The GPS is quite slow to acquire position when starting the car. Even after a quick errand, the GPS seems to start from scratch and takes 2-3 minutes to fully locate the current position. I would happily pay $20 more for a better GPS chip.2. It's a major pain that the unit has a proprietary power plug. I would much prefer to use a regular USB cable that I can match to the length I need, instead of having to deal with extra wire. And, what if the power supply fails? How do I get a replacement? Fortunately, they did make the PS versatile, with several accessory plugs so I can power 2 additional devices from the provided plug. Still, I have too much wire.Overall this is a solid 4 stars. The plug is annoying but the slow GPS is definitely minus 1 star. The screen and auto-dim are very awesome, however.

Loved the fact that it can connect to both Android and Apple devices
I have an older model of Highlander that is not compatible with android auto or apple carplay. I use my phone for GPS while traveling. I saw this and thought I will give it a try and I am happy I did1. This is compatible with both Apple and Android which is a must for me as I use Samsung and my wife is an Apple fan. So, we needed a device that both of us could use2. The setup was a breeze - almost plug and play3. The QLED screen is really good and we have kept it in the middle of the car. However it is easy to see4. I love the size of the screen also. Seeing maps in a large screen compared to my phone makes a lot of difference5. It comes with a lot of accessories including a mic. Though I haven't used it6. The speaker is also reasonably good. I use the speakers for the direction while we can play music though the other phone7. It is also very easy to transfer the speaker from the devices to car's audio system with a touch of a button8. I also like the way it attaches - you can raise up or down depending on where you want to put it. It is holding wellOverall, a great device to convert older model cars to be Android Auto / Apple Car Play compatible.
