Upgraded RV Hitch Mount Kayak Rack

I'm a 5'4" lady that didn't want to try putting a kayak up and down off the roof of my car. I was able to assemble this rack by myself and load my 10' kayak on it solo and it went fine, and will only get better with more experience. There are several different mounting holes for the bottom rack. Depending on the height of your car hitch, make sure you leave enough clearance at the bottom for your kayak to not hit the ground, and take extra care over speed bumps or rough ground. The instructions to assemble it aren't bad. They don't include instructions on how to attach the stabilizer plate over the hitch, but that's the same as on any other rack you might put on a car, so you can google it. They include two pieces of sticky-back black foam padding to line the carrying racks. One piece of the foam fit almost perfectly onto the upper U shaped rack, I had to trim it a little bit. The other piece was not long enough to completely line the interior of the two bottom compartments. In the last two pics, you can see that their included foam padding provides very little padding, so foam noodles or pipe insulation foam will provide me more peace of mind on that. They include two black caps for the pipe ends of the upper U shaped rack, but they fall right out. My husband super glued them in. I'll have to check tomorrow in daylight to see if they stayed in after our drive with the rack and kayak. The ratchet straps seem like a good quality. I've only driven this about 10 minutes from my house to the lake, but it was really stable feeling. I oriented the kayak so the inside was facing to the back, for better wind flow over the strapped down kayak. This kayak weighs about 40lbs and I was pleased to be able to load an unload it solo.

Works great on rear of RV. Pretty sturdy. Good engineering. Folds flat for storage. I put pool noodles on mine to protect the kayaks a little better. The video was more useful than the instructions.

It held up and was easy to put together. Both Kayaks fit but if going over low areas you kayak will scrape. We put it on the highest settings. We going to try modify and see if that helps with the bar support so they don’t drag If you have a higher trailer then it should not be a problem.

It works alright but even after assembly when all bolts are tightened there is still play and movement. And the bottom slots needed some kind of cushioning. After the first use the kayak had deep scratches in it. The adhesive rubber strips that came with it didn’t stay in place or work. I had to put some pipe insulation around the bottom rack and tape them in place.

Fits the back of our travel trailer and holds two kayaks.

Just finally got out together. So far; good! Easy put together. I'll do report later on how it holds.

So happy with this purchase. I did not want to be bothered with pulling or storing a trailer. This goes on and off with ease. Carries my kayaks and my paddle board nicely.

Don't do it! Please research and read some online forums before installing. These seem like a great solution for transporting kayaks while you travel, but it could cost you a lot more that you expect. Camper bumpers are made of fairly thin metal, at least my 2025 Forest River's is. We bought this for our winter migration from NY to AZ. Made it to MO with little issues. We did notice a lot of bounce in the mount. Used ratchet straps to put more tension to it. Stopped for gas in Missouri and were devastated to notice the weld cracked between the bumper and frame of the camper. Removed the tire mount to take some weight off it and get the last little bit of the journey to the campground for that night. By times we got there the weld was snapped and bumper ripping apart, weld on other side starting to crack as well. We had to remove the mount and kayaks, Take the camper to be repaired, ordered a roof rack and kayak rack for our truck, extend our stay to wait for parts to come in, and cancel a week of non refundable reservations in Oklahoma. $250 mount is now in the trash and we are down easily $1000 after repairs, replacements, and campground fees. Along with the stress and now having to drive straight from Missouri to New Mexico to avoid cancelling and changing more reservations.
