Value of the volunteer
The authors have great suggestions in reference to developing a dynamic volunteer program. Definitely things I will incorporate into my program including use of digital media for recruitment, identifying quality over quantity, developing volunteer mentors, creating my own self care and self assessment system. Lots to think about. I do appreciate the case studies and sample resources. Well done.

Easy read with useful nuggets of info
This book is a very easy read that you can knock out in under an hour. In my opinion, there are a few resources/steps that are outdated among the generations I work with. Still, I give this book 5 stars because it's very relevant with the approaches and strategies offered. As you read along the authors direct you to a specific pages related to the subject matter being addressed. I like that. I also love the realistic and practical examples that they use..they're real scenarios. The authors provide a framework (models at the end of the book). that's useful to ministries and organizations in various stages of development.

This book is very useful although I find the references to so many church groups gives a relatively narrow view of the volunteer world however I understand that is the author's most common experience and there is much to be learned from the interactions with people not organisations. If you are struggling to understand this new era of volunteering this book gives some real insights and I would recommend it in a heartbeat to anyone looking for guidance or ideas.

Great book to learn about the different generations!
Very interesting book. Learned a lot about the generations. You can't talk to everyone the same way. Ask people for help, don't ask them to volunteer!

Excellent resource with creative ideas to implement today
This is an excellent resource. While some of the ideas are not realistic for my ministry and location, there are lots of tips and ideas that I can implement right away. This is a well-written and engaging resource that will equip you to mobilize and minister to your volunteers regardless of their age.

Great info and resources
This book offers realistic insight about volunteering and searching for volunteers. Topics focus on what to do as well as what doesn't work today. The end has so many helpful sites.

Excellent, practical book on volunteer recruiting and management!
This is a phenomenal book. The authors KNOW how to recruit, manage and retain volunteers. Early revelations in the book involve recruiting from the young adult and retiree crowd, strategies for getting volunteers to join your group, and ways of managing volunteers to make sure they don't quit. There are practical items in the book such as a volunteer firing letter, a position description, as well as discussion questions and cases to peruse. I've been working with volunteers for over 20 years and found this book still filled the gaps in my knowledge and altered the way I find, orient, and lead volunteers!

No info on volunteer support
I bought this book because of the title, but there is no content that talks about how to actually support volunteers. The information is good if not slightly generic.

Explains it perfectly
This book was recommended to me by a colleague, and I have not been disappointed. It explains some of the 'social awareness' side of things, which is not covered nearly as well by most other vol management books that I have read. This book also describes exactly the different motivations of the volunteers that I have been recruiting in the last year. They are different people and need different things - this book tells you what and how!Very happy and a book I shall be using again and again.
