Great book if you like military and SF books
If you enjoy Niven and Pournelle style books that deal with military actions (think Kizinti Wars) then you should love this book. I have all three in paperback and was sad to find out that the other two are not available in Kindle. Frankly, reading is getting harder as I get older and the Kindle has made reading my old favorites MUCH easier. I am hopeful that they put the rest of the trilogy into Kindle format. I know I would buy it.As for the story itself, it's late 21st century tech vs more advanced tech. And it is basically about a submarine/carrier that encounters things that do not make sense and how they go by the book to bring a certain amount of order to a chaotic situation. Love the characters, in general, but I am not the biggest fan of how they make the women seem like little more than women emulating men. I enjoy the can-do attitude the crew puts forth - esp the captain. Unfortunately there is not as much character development as I would like since there is a LONG list of characters and it would - no doubt - drag down the book if we learned more about each and every one of them. But I love the boat and the writing is solid enough so that I can see it when a VTOL jet leaps off a cat-shot from the retracted hull of a super-sub. No complaints. Which is probably why the trilogy of paperbacks has survived multiple moves and purges.

An old favorite
I read this book years and years ago and really enjoyed it. I've also been watching for many years hoping it would return in digital format and couldn't have been happier when it did. It was as good as I remember, though it's always interesting how many authors completely missed the boat on the Internet! Still, a fun read I would recommend to anyone. Now we need book 2 and 3 to be published digitally. Come on guys, this is easy money.

Interesting story, too much military crap
I liked the basic story although I'd like a more complete ending. There was a lot of ra ra America we are the best nonsense. Way too much military jargon. The fleeting comments of personal nature of the cast seemed fat handed and really added nothing. The 3 rating was a gift as I do like Scifi it's probably a 2

AREA 51 Meets Jules Verne
A fun read, Mr. STONE's technical expertise is not only limited to aerospace. There is a second in the series. All of his books not only tickle the imagination but are enjoyable for teenagers through adults. A SUBMARINE aircraft carrier concept is not new but Mr STINE shows where it could go. My only complaint or criticism is addressed to Amazon Kindle as they haven't carried any more of his novels. "An Enjoyable Read"
I do like the concept. A carrier submarine taking on a race of undersea aliens who apparently are responsible for the disappearance of several American citizens in a small Pacific country. One thing I did like about the story is we really didn't know much about the aliens. We always saw them through the eyes of the Shenandoah crew, who had to make some calculated guess on how these creatures operate. Not as much action as I expected, but the story was handled pretty well. I did have a problem with Stine's overuse of exclamation points. 55% of normal conversations ended with these marks, making it appear the characters were constantly shouting at each other.
