This will program and function in the vehicle with one minor exception. This remote will NOT cause the approach lighting to function. Apparently when your vehicle sends out the FOB request(as it does every 5-7 minutes when the vehicle is off and the FOB is not near), this FOB does not send the proper response to the truck to activate that feature. If the approach and departure lighting function is important to you, buy an OEM Ford FOB.I bought this one to have a backup FOB for taking the vehicle to be serviced, so after programming it, it provides most all OE function except the approach/departure lighting. Programming it was a snap, as I already had two working FOBs. That process takes around a minute if that. You must have two working FOBs to self program. Dealer only(FDRS access) to program it if you only have one FOB. It’s 1/3 of the cost of the OEM FOB, so it works out just fine.

There are a couple of differences between this and an original fob. This takes a 2032 battery while the OEM takes a 2450. This is significantly smaller so I have worries about it lasting. Secondly the f150 has a way to pair a 3rd fob if you have the other 2. I have done it on a friends truck, but with this fob it is not working on mine. I don't want to pay a locksmith to pair as I shouldn't have to. So the jury is still out.

Since the car won’t start unless the fob is inside, it gives me some peace of mind.The only thing I’d say is that you’ve got to be careful not to misplace it, because if you do, you’re out of luck until you find it or get a replacement. Trust me, I’ve been there! But other than that, it’s definitely a worthy replacement in case you lost one of just want another spare.
