An excellent and effective self help book
I stumbled across this book by accident and I'm so pleased I purchased it. I've got genetic knee OA with one bone on bone and the other trying to catch up. I'm 55 but my knees think they are 97. I detest everything about the OA and all the problems and pain it causes so am always looking for anything that will help. The book has short, concise chapters on different parts of the body. It's easy to dip in an out of so it was very quick to understand what has been happening and then to pick a list of simple exercises which started to work their magic very quickly. The results - my 'better' knee has stopped collapsing (so no longer causes other debilitating and painful muscular injuries), my knee flexion is improving, walking has quickened and is steadier and I feel generally stronger and more mobile. And a LOT happier. The chapter on 'the curious case of the stiff shoulders' also gave a name to my mother in laws very painful shoulder condition that her useless GP diagnosed as 'it's just old age dear' so she's very happy too.NHS help for OA is woeful if like me, you are not prepared to swallow mountains of useless painkillers or face major surgery - you must help yourself to keep mobile and reduce pain and with a bit of effort this book will help achieve just that. The You Tube and website videos are very helpful too.

Simple exercises, brilliant results.
This is a brilliant book. Lots of info, well laid out and easy to understand. I have only had this book a short while but have already found the exercises relating to the neck very useful in loosening off an ever increasing stuff neck and (very much to my surprise) increasing the range of movement in my neck and reducing the clunking. I think this is one of those books that is so regularly used it will never be on the bookshelf.

Over 100 exercises with detailed illustrations and clear, science-based explanations
This is an excellent book written by physiotherapist Will Harlow. It contains over 100 exercises focusing on all the major joints and ligaments to treat pain and stiffness and improve mobility and independence.Unlike many physiotherapists I attended who merely download exercises from websites with little or no explanation to the patient, Will has the rare ability to explain what is causing the pain / stiffness and come up with specific exercises and explains how these exercises address the issue. This gives the patient the motivation to stick with Will's exercise programme. All of Will's exercises are evidence-based and are underpinned by his detailed knowledge of his subject and understanding of the science of the human body. Will also supplies a weekly '3 Tip Friday' video which can be downloaded free of charge covering the latest in research findings. These videos are a very valuable complement to Will's book 'Thriving Beyond Fifty'. I thoroughly recommend the book as a hugely valuable resource for mobility and freedom from pain, and excellent value for money.Eugene BarryDublin

A very worthwhile book
Having very much enjoyed Will's YouTube videos I purchased this book. It's written in the same easy style, and with good illustrations, which make it very easy to understand the different exercises.I give it four rather than five stars because I expected more exercises. There is a lot of explanation regarding what some injuries are and why they are experienced, but I could have done with a little less explanation and more exercises. Perhaps Will is worried about presenting exercises which may lead to certain people damaging themselves (although he is very clear that people should consult their health advisor before trying out some of these exercises) as he cannot do a hands-on check. But I would have preferred to have, say, far more core exercises.Nevertheless, a very worthwhile book which will enormously benefit the over-fifties, both physically and mentally (it might even help some younger ones too!)

Easy to Understand
Loads of useful information for people wanting to exercise once they are over 50. Find it very useful to have on the shelf so I can just read bit at a time or if something specific happens have a look to see if it is covered. Yes Will does have lots of info on YT but in my view this book is a good accompaniment. Thank you Will.

Easy, informative read
I'm so glad I found Wills videos on YouTube, which then prompted me to buy his book. Such an easy read, split into sections. I thought I'd find myself skipping sections, but instead I read from cover to cover! It will be a great reference book for me in the future. Also, it has prompted me to plan an exercise regime for myself. Highly recommend x
