I wanted my chocolate ice cream to be dark chocolate in my Creami. This works perfectly and has a really chocolaty flavor!

Excellent chocolate taste. The extra dark color gives the finished product a distinct almost black color but doesn't affect the texture or flavor of the finished product.

I wouldn’t use this Birch & Meadow Black Cocoa Powder as a replacement for regular cocoa, but it does bring its own special qualities. It’s great for bringing a very dark color and somewhat unique flavor to things like Oreo cookies baked at home.We sprinkled it into ramekins when we made chocolate lava cakes last night. It brought its deep dark color to the dessert and was a nice contrast to the strawberry on top and this lighter chocolate inside. I also made hot chocolate with it. I was surprised at how deep and dark it was even after adding plenty of milk. I think it tastes more like dark chocolate than regular cocoa even with milk and sugar added though that may be a mind trick because it’s hard to imagine anything else when you see the color. I enjoyed it used that way.

We don’t bake often, but we use a lot of cocoa powder for various other things. This particular brand is probably our favorite. It’s not too sweet, and ground very finely. It’s very dark in color, but the flavor is probably slightly less so. The slight mellowness of the flavor is great because you can fine tune your needs with other ingredients.Like I said, we haven’t baked with it yet. However, we’ve made hot cocoa and it came out great. My husband has added a bit into his coffee when he wants to change things up and has really enjoyed it. However, the way we’ve used this powder most frequently is in our homemade protein based “ice cream”.We’re making the “ice cream” almost daily, and vary the ingredients almost as frequently. However, we always start with a base of this powder, protein powder, and almond milk. Adding sugar free pudding mix and a banana is highly recommended.Anyway, back to the cocoa powder. It’s very high quality and fresh. The jar seals easily and despite being a large amount, should be able to keep for a long time. Freshness - Ordered July 2024, Dated Best by May 2026Opened the cover of the Cocoa powder that had a seal under the lid. A nice aroma of chocolate wafted up.Baked up some muffins with the cocoa powder and added some mini chips in as well.Delicious.
