But the HP x900w USB 3.0 drive managed to pleasantly surprise me, proving itself a reliable workhorse for everyday file slinging. I bought this flash drive to back up some pictures from my laptop. I did notice a slower process from laptop to flash drive compared to flash drive to laptop but that is to be expected.

Two of my external hard drives no longer are writable from my Mac, but they are writable from my Lenovo. I had several files to move from my Macbook Pro to those external hard drives but I didn't want to invest in a third external hard drive. A 128 GB flashdrive seemed like the perfect solution and it was. It was totally writable from my Macbook Pro, and when taking the files to my Lenovo, I was able to copy directly from the flash drive onto the external hard drives (rather than copying first to the Lenovo and then moving them to the external hard drives). The price was perfect and the transfer was glitch free. I can now see a lot of advantage in having a large capacity flashdrive such as this rather than an external hard drive. An external hard drive has moving parts that can fail in time and also can have glitches like those I recently experienced. This was an extremely SMART purchase for me, especially on a modest retirement budget. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone with similar file storage needs!

Using USB 3.0 doesn't guarantee performance, only the theoretical 5 gigabits per second maximum transfer burst through the motherboard's root hub, which is already a more than 8 times slower when transferring actual gigabytes for longer than a fraction of a second! The packaging doesn't make any additional claims, just that the two year limited warranty doesn't include data recovery services so backup in multiple places. Perhaps the components tested borderline during quality control and were binned to let Hewlett Packard fanatics have some acceptable merchandise without reducing the actual manufacturer's premium reputation with a mediocre product? If you actually want performance, I'd recommend paying more for something with the more recent USB 3 Gen 2 labels, and perhaps a longer warranty. Unfortunately, it has also been standard marketing to exaggerate specifications of consumer electronics for decades, such as using the metric (10³=1000) kilo instead of binary (2¹⁰=1024) kilo to make future e-waste seem more impressive to gullible consumers... a trend that has spread to HDMI 2.0 + proprietary options = HDMI 2.1 + standardized options!!! Why couldn't they just decide which next gen options are required in each HDMI 2 revision instead of rebranding what already existed??? 🤬 Are consumers getting stupider with smartphones thinking for us, and marketing terminology is changing to exploit us more?

This flash drive delivers exactly what it promises. It has a good data transfer speed and is very portable. In my initial tests, it didn't get very warm, even during large file transfers. The only downside is the all-plastic construction, which makes it feel a bit less durable. However, given the low price of less than $9.00, it's a solid purchase and worth every penny.
