Simply plug in the supplied cable and it works a treat as on my iMac.

What makes it for mac? is it really for mac only? cannot understand why it would not go with windows.

They come already formatted for Mac (HFS+ file system format). If you want to switch to Windows, you should reformat it as an exFAT, which is very simple to do from Win. The FAT format is more portable, Mac and Linux can read it, while you typically need to install utilities to read an HFS system from Win. However, HFS has features like a richer set of permissions or case-sensitive file and directory names.
