Lonely Planet Germany: Detailed Itineraries | Travel Like a Local | Insider Tips | Covers Berlin, Hamburg, Central Germany, Munich, Stuttgart and Frankfurt (Travel Guide) Review: nothing - It was a present. I did'nt read it. But I know Lonely Planet and thought it is good as well. Review: Not worth it - I have always enjoyed the Lonely Planet review books, but this one, and others I have purchased recently, are a waste of money. I was looking forward to a newer edition of the book as I enjoyed the previous edition, but this edition is dull, unorganized, and lacks quality recommendations and detail as previous editions have done. Something must be going on over a Lonely Plant. I hope they are able to recover their old self.

Poorly done and in suffice travel local information.
I have been using Lonely Planet for the past 20 years. It seem as this book was AI generated, it was not well researched and thoughtful. No walking historical map about Munich , nothing Local mentioned about Munich nor Berlin. It terrible written. Even the format is ambiguous. My old Lonely Planet is smooth , easy, simple, get to point and well detail and organized. No one write do the work, but they want to sell there book with pathetic material. Sad. Its going back to Amazon.

What happened to Lonely Planet?????
I am an independent traveler. I have relied on Lonely Planet Guide books for decades. I have bookshelves full of them. I just moved to Germany and needed to update my guide from several years ago, so I bought this year's edition in a bookshop (excited that it was so current) without even cracking open the cover - and immediately returned it when I did and ordered the previous older edition on-line. I did a bit of research and found out that the current owner Red Ventures, a US media company, purchased Lonely Planet in December 2020. The 2024 Germany (and the 2024 edition on Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Armenia which I bought before I knew better) are nothing like the previous editions. The Country Guides no longer include the essential details that are necessary to plan a trip, for example recommendations for accommodations, restaurants, points of interest, out of the way tips, book or movie recommendations, getting around on public transportations, etc. No opening times, price indications, price ranges are given and the now generic information in the books is presented in a disorganized and confusing layout - nothing like the layout in all of the previous editions that a lot of users like me liked and were used to. If you are looking for a book filled with generic general list of attractions with little or no information about them - by all means get it. These books are now just cashing in on a famous name. If you want a genuine reliable detailed guide book - look elsewhere! Lonely Planet guidebooks were the best, and I mourn the demise of these books that represent for me the timeline of a lifetime of independent travel.

Paperback wikipedia
I'm pretty bummed about this book. I've got a dozen or more Lonely Planet books and the format here is completely different. As another reviewer stated: it doesn't even recommend specific hotels or restaurants. With the previous titles I always felt like I was reading advice that someone before me had captured on a trip of their own. This just seems like I'm reading a chatgpt-generated book that pulled from all the old ones and wikipedia, if that makes sense.

No accommodations
I got this guide specifically to get recommendations on accommodations (which the descriptions says are included). As far as I can tell, the only accommodation information is the type of hotel to find, not specific, vetted recommendations by city or section. I understand now why it is available for free on Kindle Unlimited. I'm not opposed to the new format, but how does a guide not include (or make easy to find in a logical way) hotel recommendations? I'll stick with Rough Guides moving forward.

I love this book so much! I am reading it ahead of my trip to Germany next month (Lübeck and Berlin) and gives you so much to do and see, as well as historical context. Can’t beat a lonely planet guide! I bought a used copy of this book which saved me a good £6 and the condition was still great.

The guide is textually very complete and the visuals are amazing! Lonely Planet never disappoints, I really liked the content and it’s going to be my official guide in Germany in two months. Thanks!

Easy to read with useful information. I believe this will be a useful tool to help me decide on our route around Germany next year.

The Lonely Planet we used to know, trust and find USEFUL is gone. This new format lacks structure and detail and includes only a very general level of info which you can easily glean from a google search. I suspect the company has been gutted resource-wise and has moved to a format that is so general the content would rarely need updating. Very disappointing. Shop around.
