Really cool! Not for everyone
These are really cool, but not for everyone! I've been trying out several new natural non-plastic eco toothbrushes and this is a unique one. The base is kind of wide and awkward to hold at first. There's no need for hard brushing because the hairs/bed will split more easily. During the first few uses bristle bits will come out in your mouth. If you're brave and bold enough to keep using it, you'll be left feeling clean! This is a FIRM brush, and I prefer soft so I wouldn't get it again but nothing wrong with it. Really good for stimulating gum flow. Now, I want to try their horse hair pack as well. Fast shipping, good packaging, products smells like wood and bristle. Great gift for that cruncy gal or guy in your life!

Well-made
Onto my 2nd toothbrush out of 4. Cleans well. Each new brush scratches the corner of my mouth a bit until, I suppose, I polished it off, lol! I have not experienced the issues other reviewers listed; perhaps 1 or 2 loose strands come off, but no big deal. I replace it every 3 months for sanitary purposes. I like the fact that I'm not brushing my teeth with plastic!!!

Tried to love these but didn’t
These are very well made and one of the only plastic free toothbrushes on the market that won’t mold or rust. I want these to work for me because plastic is bad for us and we need alternatives. The bad is. These don’t get teeth clean enough. Teeth still feel less than clean after brushing. It’s fine but it’s not great. And the actual problem though is the bristles themselves. The hair is very pokey and a little brittle, and the combo really is prone to getting a boar hair stuck in the throat. I feel like this happened multiple times for all of us and just couldn’t get over how painful and annoying this was. Really wanted these to be good.

Nice soft bristle brushes without microplastictics
Pretty great brushes, first time using they will feel a bit stiff but quickly soften to be similar to typical soft bristle brushes. Holding up well so far with daily use, no issues with dampness or anything. I am used to harder bristles but this will be better to prevent receding gums.

Wanted to Love These, But My Dental Health Declined Over Time
I really wanted to love the PRIMALS Boar Bristle & Bamboo Toothbrushes (4-Pack). In fact, I’ve ordered them three separate times since late 2024 because I was genuinely trying to transition away from plastic toothbrushes and reduce exposure to microplastics and unnecessary synthetic materials. And with all of the rave reviews, I thought I’d absolutely love these. I also intentionally gave these a long trial period because I wanted to be fair and see whether they truly were a good long-term product before leaving a review. I appreciated the company’s focus on sustainability, biodegradable materials, bamboo handles, and avoiding nylon bristles and petroleum-based plastics. The concept is wonderful, and I truly wanted these to work for our household. Unfortunately, after using them for about a year and a half, I’ve decided I will not be ordering them again. The biggest issue for me has been my dental health. Since switching to these brushes, I have experienced significantly more plaque buildup than ever before. In addition to the plaque, I’ve also noticed much more staining on my teeth during this period. No matter how diligently I brushed, my teeth never felt as clean as they do with other toothbrushes. Another concern is the bristle shedding. Every few days, I would notice at least one boar bristle coming loose during brushing. Maybe some people would not mind this, but personally it made me uncomfortable wondering whether I may have accidentally swallowed some over time. The brush head is also quite large, making it difficult to comfortably reach the very back molars and fully clean those areas effectively. I still appreciate what the company is trying to do from a sustainability standpoint, and I applaud the effort to create a more natural alternative. Sadly, in my personal experience, the tradeoff came at the expense of comfort, cleanliness, and overall dental health.

A decent plastic alternative
It’s great to know these are plastic free, but the bristles start to fall out pretty quickly, after maybe 5 uses, I was finding one or two bristles in my mouth half the time after brushing. I wish the toothbrushes were more durable. Still, a good option if you want to avoid microplastics!

Primals boar’s hair bamboo toothbrush
I ordered the boar’s bristles. It’s amazing. Feels good on the teeth. Not super soft but not hard at all. It leaves my teeth and gums feeling very clean. They recommend that you rub the bristles with your thumb under running water for a few minutes to remove loose bristles. I did that before I used it the first time. Absolutely no loose bristles. I’d buy these again for sure! Very pleased.

Bristles way too soft
I really wanted to like these tooth brushes. The concept is great and I like how the toothbrush can stand on its own so it can dry out quicker instead of being in a cup or holder stacked up next to other toothbrushes or dental tools. My issue is primarily with the bristles. The bristles are just not firm enough. They’re super, super soft to the point that I don’t feel like I’m properly brushing my teeth. After I’m done my teeth do not feel as clean as they would if I used a regular nylon bristle toothbrush. The bristles are simply not firm enough to remove plaque and reach deep between the teeth. I’m guessing it might help if this toothbrush had certain bristles that were raised or higher than other bristles in or to reach deeper in between your teeth like regular store-bought nylon bristles, but even then these bristles would still be way to soft. In my opinion the brush head is a little too small. If it was slightly bigger I’d feel like the brush is contacting more area to clean. Also, after a few uses the bamboo starts to feel really dried out, especially toward the front(bristle end) and it rubs/doesn’t slide over the inside of your cheek as smoothly as a plastic toothbrush. It will slightly pull your mouth/inside cheek back and forth while brushing because of the non-smooth bamboo fibers, which is obviously to be expected using an untreated bamboo toothbrush. I would definitely be willing to even look past that if the bristles worked better. So again, I like the idea of making healthier products and avoidance of microplastics, but when it comes to being able to execute properly in the form of removing plaque and moderately stuck food, it just doesn’t do the job. All other things I felt were issues I would be willing to look past IF the bristles weren’t so soft and cleaned better. I have a soft bristle nylon bristle toothbrush and I thought that was soft, it’s not nearly as soft as this boars hair one.
