It is a machete not a sword but looks like a sword. It has a nice thin blade made of spring carbon steel manufactured in South Africa. It has a long handle but it can be used single handed, the blade is sharp it’s a slicer more than a chopper. I look at it more as a novelty than an actual machete. If you want a machete get the bolo that one is a nice chopper. This one It is more of a zombie apocalypse tool if you know what I mean. It is well made and if you get it for the right price around $30 go for it. You can have some fun on your backyard cutting plastic bottles and other things. So let your star wars kid come out.

Feels like a quality product.

I have way too many machetes everything from from $5 Tramontinas to $150 dollar Condors just because I enjoy collecting and using them. I also have 4 other Cold Steel machetes. Each of my other Cold Steel machetes came with a "working edge" meaning sharp enough to use, but easily made sharper with 10 minutes of work with the right tools. However, this one came with a very bad burr on the entire edge such that you could almost get cut by the burr if you ran you finger across 90 degrees from the edge. It was such a large burr that I could not remove it with a diamond stone and had to use a belt grinder with a 240 grit sandpaper. Quality control issues aside, once I got the burr removed and the edge properly sharp, this proved to be an excellent machete/sword for attacking wild rose bushes since its length lets you get to base with minimal exposure to a thorny counter-attack. It is thin and fast for its size. The extra large handle allows a two-handed swing but also provides excellent balance for one-handed use when you grip it just below the guard. Bottom line is buy it as long as you have to tools and/or skills to correct the edge.

Wow this thing came nice a sharp and it is a beauty. A few tips that will make it even better (I have done these to each of my 2 handed machetes) : 1) Add padded tennis racket grip wrap to the handle. I have larger hands and the padded grip wrap helps give it the girth I need to get a good strong grip on it, as well as makes it way more comfortable to use. Plus it really absorbs the shock when hitting something hard. 2) Add a lanyard (para cord or rope) that is attaches to the hole in the end of the handle and goes around your wrist of the hand that is closest to the blade while as close to the blade as you can get. this will help from having it get lost or hurt someone else when you lose your grip and it gets away from you. Believe me, It will happen. 3) Use a shotgun scabbard as a sheath to carry it on your back when around people so they don't freak out and call the authorities on you. You can easily attach a scabbard to a back pack with just 2 clips since they are made for that purpose. I add a piece of folded sheet metal inside the scabbard at the other end so the tip doesn't push through. When inserted all the way, there is very little handle showing but enough that people can see it is not a gun but cant see that its a sword either. I have never had anyone ask me what it is either while sheathed. but have had some really weird looks when it wasn't. Its pretty easy to pull out of it while on your back pack as long as you have a lanyard on it too. Edit: this is a great machete for cutting your way through an over grown trail but for light duty use only. Its very sharp and lightweight but since it is so light, it can't take the abuse that the other Cold Steel 2 handed machetes can. So if you are looking for something that can take the abuse and need something for heavy duty chopping, Try either of the 2 handed Katana's or 2 handed the Kukri. If you are too hard on this one it will break around the handle, as mine did. But I like it so much I am buying another and will keep buying a new one as I break them. I like it that much.

I am a fan of Cold Steel, have several of their blades, all outstanding. I am also a practicing swordsman, giving occasional demos and teaching the art of such. Being a female in my 60's, 5'4", and 112 lbs, I have certain requirements in my choice of blades. This THAI sword (seller should take care to spell right..) exceeded my expectations. It is very light and agile for its size, and came very sharp. It easily sliced water jugs and up to 4 aluminums cans in one stroke, as well as green bamboo, etc. Its chopping power as a tool, is excellent. For both fun and work, Cold Steel has done an excellent job with this blade. The sheath is sturdy and well-made, but typical of CS, a bit "clunky". It has a slit in backside to allow for the hand-quard, which takes getting used to when unsheathing. Best of all, it sells for an amazingly low price for such a quality blade. I most highly recommend the Thai machete/sword for its versatility and functionality.

I bought this because of the length, which makes it so I can keep my distance when clearing pricker bushes - works great. I also use it to clear over grown tree limbs and problematic trees from the six miles of trails running through my property, the extra length helps with that too because I can swing it faster. I am not kind to this thing and often use it like an axe. Two and three inch diameter trees are fair game. And I swing as hard as can. I really enjoy the back sling sheath because it makes it easy to carry while on a quad or walking trails. Learn how to use a machete to cut tree limbs. There's a great video on YouTube with an older dude showing you how to angle your cuts, makes a world of difference. Comments on other reviews - the blade is thin but not overly thin. It will glance and bounce off a tree if you don't get it right, but that's more operator error than the blade. With time and practice you won't experience that much. And it's never damaged my blade. - some have noted it's not durable. Maybe there's quality control issues in the manufacturing, but I beat mine to heck and it's still intact. - idk if the blade is sharp or holds an edge. If you're using this to clear brush and trees, show me a blade that does hold an edge doing that kind of work. Everything loses it's edge. I run a blade sharpener over it from time to time, but as a tree chopper I don't need a razor blade.

Let's be very clear: the reviewers who have said, 'this is not a sword' are not thinking clearly. If you want a sword for going 'steel to steel', then seek elsewhere for a good stage-combat weapon. Real swords were not used to parry very often, if at all, despite what we've all seen in the movies. Look at a katana blade very closely; do you think that's designed to block another katana blade-to-blade? A sword is made to cut. Period. You want to block? That's what a shield is for. This utility-weapon is, in my opinion, excellent. Thin yet strong and supple blade, easily-gripped and retained handle. The balance is excellent, with either one- or two-handed grip. This is a fine piece of equipment for clearing brush and, in the right circumstances, for offensive use. I can't imagine when anyone would have such an opportunity, but it could easily be used for that purpose. I keep a machete stashed in the back of the family crossover/SUV along with a shovel, pick, hammer, and a hatchet. In the Army we called these the 'pioneer tools' with which each HMMWV was equipped. Don't laugh; it doesn't have to be my car that flies off a road into deep brush or trees. If you come upon someone who has unintentionally slid off the road into a gorge full of trees, these things can become life-saving equipment. Not to mention using them to extract your own vehicle if its gets stuck. This machete will replace the old, shorter one. If I ever have use of it, I expect it to get the job done.

I mean, it costs 50 bucks. A proper sword could not cost 50 bucks. But for a cheap sword it's quite good. The balance is not perfect, but it is still quite close to a real dha, just a little bit end-heavy (yet far from a dao).

Ich hab mir die Machete zugelegt um mit allseits bekannte Brommbeer-Lavinen besser klar zu kommen. Vorher hab ich's mit Heckenschere und Freischeider gemacht. Dauert aber sehr lang. Zusätzlich bekomme ich beim Freischneider ständig Stücke ins Gesicht geschleudert... Mit der Machete schaffe ich in einer halben Stunde eine Schneise von 3 x 15 Metern durch 3,5m hohe Brommbeeren und Unterholz. Mit einer Mischung aus Baseball-Schläger-Schwüngen und Axt-Hieben lässt sich gut Arbeiten. Äste bis zu einer stärke von meinem Handgelenk zertrenne ich mit 2 Schlägen. Es lässt sich auch kurzfristig mit einer Hand führen. Der Griff ist super; Hartplastik, welches nicht allzuschnell schimmelt. Ich empfehl einfache Gartenhandschuhe mit gummierung. Die Riffeln und der Knauf sorgen für einen sehr sicheren Griff. Auch bei Erschöpfung kein Rutschen. -Die Kinge wartungsarm aber echt nichts besonderes. Bleibt ewig scharf. (Außer irgendwer kommt aif die Idee aus der Keilförmigen Klinge einen Scandischliff zu machen...) Fatzit: Ich mag das Teil. Ich war schon länger auf einer Ausrede um mir ein Schwert zu besorgen. Das einzige was ich gern 'besser' hätte währ; das es noch brachialer währ. ( 20cm länger + Einkerbung nahe der Klingenspitze, damit weniger Brommbeeren über die rutschen.... das währ dann aber eher ein Produkt, welches ich mir wünsche und bisher nicht gefunden habe...) Kurz gesagt: gut für Grobmechaniker/innen / schlecht für Feinmechaniker/innen welche ein günstiges Katana erwarten.

Arriva con un affilatura quasi assente,e come acciaio il 1055 è molto difficile da affilare con un comune affilacoltelli,se avete manualità e pazienza potete provarci,altrimenti fate fare ad un arrotino per 20/30€

Das Teil wirkt noch größer wenn man es erst einmal in der Hand hält. Klinge ist scharf und schneidet gut. Kaufempfehlung ? Jap
