Entertaining, awesome toy - buy the box!
UPDATE: 1 year later and this is still the favorite toy of all 3 cats in my house. I usually put it away for a couple of weeks and take it out again for them randomly. Love this toy! โ-------------- I opened my package and I was like - I just spent nearly $20 on a box with holes?! Ah well, anything for my babies! Let me tell you, this is their most FAVORITE toy on the planet, and they pretty much do have every toy on the planet. All 3 of my cats (even the 10 year old fussy ones who don't play much) play with this. I specifically bought it for my 1 year old girl (she plays with it the most), who is very smart and active. She loves a challenge, and I wanted to embrace it. She loves this toy so much, that she cries for more treats after she gets them all out (see the video :) ). She also likes to put her favorite toys inside of the box (all by herself)! This is an awesome toy, which provokes thought and a sense of hunting for her. The reward that she receives by figuring out the puzzle, keeps her happy, driven, entertained and thinking. I only hope that this company will one day make different versions (beginner, medium and advanced maybe?). I'd love to have a few of these to swap out with eachother every week, to keep my girl's minds sharp! As for durability - she's pushed it all around with her nose, she's jumped on it, she's clawed at it, rolled on it. The other cats often play with it too (though mostly she gets all of the treats before they get a chance - she's very determined). Still standing! Awesome toy! Trust me - buy the box. It is so worth it!!!

Something for Both of my Boys
Any new cat toy is always a risk. I have a treat ball for my 2 boys and they could not care less about that thing. They love treats and yet if I put them in the ball, meh. So I was hesitant to purchase this. Thankfully, my boys love it! I sprinkle some treats in each section of the maze and let them do their thing. They will return to this thing over and over until they get all the treats. At first, I put most of the treats in the easier sections. Now that they are using it more, I try to put most of the treats in the more difficult areas. They really love it. I can't ask for more than that. They love it so much that I'm going to order a spare to have on hand just in case. The cardboard is sturdy and putting it together was simple. My cats have made no attempt to tear it apart or tip it over. My Maine Coon will sometimes sit on it and it holds up very well. I did step on it once and while it got a little crushed at the corner, it functions just fine and the cats don't care. I can imagine that if I had stepped on it just right, I would probably want to replace it. One of my cats always starts at the easy end of the maze while the other one is determined to get the treats from the more challenging areas. So it is good for both of their personalities. One always takes the path of least resistance and the other prefers a challenge. I love watching them both exercising their brains trying to figure this out. It is really fun watching them move from opening to opening trying to figure out how to get those treats out of the maze and into their mouths. I thought this would be either too easy for the cats and they would have the treats out right away, or too difficult and they would get frustrated and not go near it, but it is just right. If it gets too easy, I can switch it over to the most challenging level and let them work on that. I will say that I used to have a cat that didn't care for treats at all. I never found a treat that she cared about. If your cat is like that, this toy would probably not be for you. However, the two cats I have now have different personalities and both the lazy one and the active one love it.

It works.
Love this. One if the few things I have bought for my cat that she uses. Would of given 5 stars but it is a bit light...but still a great product.

Best Cat Puzzle!
This is the best puzzle box ever. As soon as I set up the box my boys were hunting for their treats. Kept them busy and entertained. The instructions were easy to follow. They provided a video if you need help setting up the box. It's been 10 minutes and their still looking for treats inside the box! I'm going to be purchasing another one now. They absolutely love it! Thank you!

Not the "best" cat toy ever, but cleverly designed & entertaining
Seems like this makes them use their little thinking caps. Tested this on all 3 cats: all different, Emily is my cleverest (is that a word?) kitty; without a clever kitty, I'm not sure this would really work. Emily's first exposure to it: She watched me put the treat on top & I knocked it in. She fished it out after a couple tries. She actually finds it easiest to pull it out of the "hardest" side which is what they designated the yellow side. She puts her little paw in deep and fishes out the treat. The first time we tried it, she ate so many treats she got sick, poor kitty! She doesn't really "get it" when I put the treats on the green side though, which is what they call the easiest side. Emily is not highly treat motivated cat, which interesting: if I show a bag of treats and call, she really couldn't care less, she actually comes when I call her because she likes being pet. She is very finicky and only likes one type of treat that I have found so far. Next day, I caught her trying to get some more treats out a bit later, that had been overlooked, so I think this toy is worth it. Also, it does not require batteries and it is big enough that 2 cats can go at it from different sides. Clearly, we had played it the day before for a while and then the next day she found it entertaining enough to approach for more on her own. A negative is that it is pretty lightweight so when they are trying to push their faces in the side, sniffing the treats, and cannot reach and not using their paws, it can slide across the floor, which seems frustrating for them. Emily's sister didn't really get it when I tried that teaching method with her, but she learned it after she watched Emily "fishing" for treats, copied her, & got her reward too. My third kitty, Gracie, is quite a love, but not so bright & this box did not really work out for her although I tried it with her 2 separate occassions. Even seeing the sisters doing it, I tried to lead her but to no avail. She knew there were treats in it, but after she saw me put the treats in it, kept nuzzling my hand for the treats, even after I put the treat just on the edge of the cardboard circle so she could still see it (I guess I give her too many treats & she just associates my hand with treats). Then instead of looking inside, she pushed the box all over the room with her head. Finally she flipped the box upside down and all the treats fell out (by then there were like 20-30 treats in it so anywhere she would have looked would have given her a treat, so I had to snatch them all up so she would learn they were INSIDE the box). It does seem to be dog proof to an extent for big dogs even with yummy treat smells coming from it: my German Shepherd tried to get in on it. Her snout and paws too large for the openings. She used to have a treat-dispensing toy in shape of box that she had to pick up and then treats would come out, but this seemed too large for her to do that. I did redirect her as the cardboard design did not seem like it would stand up to too many dog licks or wet sniffings. Overall, I think this is worth the money; since they didn't get all the treats the first time they went "fishing" and Emily enjoyed it enough and went back to it the next day for more fishing fun, I think it will give her something to do when I am at work. And I know the dog can't get the treats in it too, so I will just have to keep checking the treats and restocking. I will update review in a month or two to see if they get tired of it (if I do not have to restock the treats or if the dog learns how to tip over the box to get the treats out herself lol).

Very entertaining for smartypants kitten
Our 10 month old kitten is the smartest cat I've ever known...and I'm not bragging, it's more a complaint. Two weeks ago, he pulled down our shower curtain; last week, we saw him get up on the kitchen counter, open the top drawer and he took out 2 rubber bands to play with (of course we took those away immediately, to his dismay); and over the weekend, he discovered the joys of shredding toilet paper. I noticed that he likes to put his favorite mousey toy in places that are hard to reach (like on the other side of an open door) and then spends a bunch of time trying to get it back. He's adorable, but exhausting for us and our 15 year old cat (who mostly wants to sleep and cuddle). I was searching Amazon for puzzle toys in hopes of finding something to entertain him, and was excited to find this toy! We received it today, and he was interested even while I was doing the simple assembly. I put it on the floor, he saw me put one treat in each section, and he IMMEDIATELY went for it. He tried the intermediate section first, and it took him about 7 or 8 minutes to get the treat out, then went for the easy side (1 minute flat). The advanced side kept him occupied for another 20 minutes until he got that treat, too. I put 3 more treats in - one in each section - and he had all 3 of those in another 10 minutes. Hahaha. So I stuffed his favorite mousey into the intermediate section and he had it out in less than a minute. Hmmm. Now that it's empty, he's taking a nap. I'll try it again tomorrow with some regular food instead of treats, and see if he's still as excited. My 15 year old cat, who is very sweet but not very bright, has no interest in the toy. ;-) If you Pet Amazing folks ever make an even more challenging puzzle toy and need a smart kitty tester, send it on over!

5 star concept, 2 star execution
I wasn't sure about this toy, but decided to give it a try. It's fairly easy to assemble (if you're used to putting together boxes, you don't even need to look at the instructions). I sprinkled some catnip in, then put some of the kids' toyrs in, and finally some treats. My cats are 1-1/2 yr old brothers. They were interested as I was putting the box together, so were anxious for it to be set down for them and immediately started checking it out and interacting with it. It's a hit! Yay! They played with it non-stop for at least 30-minutes. They had so much fun digging out the toys and treats that they ripped part of the box and tore up the tented insert. I put it back together as best as I could and set it aside for later. The next day I put it back (with toys, but no treats) and withine 15 minutes they tore it up even more (see picture). So, in less than 1 hour of play they managed to tear it up so much it won't work the same. So, while the concept is great - they really enjoyed it, the material just isn't up to par. Defintely not worth paying for something that isn't built well enough to last more than an hour. Perhaps a thicker, stronger cardboard might last longer . . . ?

It's a box - ok, not great
I really debating buying this because I had planned to use some of the many Amazon boxes we accumulate to make something like this for our Maine Coons myself. But, I saw that it had good reviews and figured it was worth a bit of $16 with tax to have the project done. It was shipped in a plastic mailing bag (by Amazon) so it was a bit bent upon arrival. I did not take off any of my rating stars for this because that was Amazon, not the vendor, but this is become very common, where Amazon ships things like a box of tea in a bag and it arrives smashed, so just know that your cat puzzle may come bent too. That said, this is well made for what it is, yes. It is as sturdy as cardboard is - until a 16lb Maine Coon or his younger brother land on it from atop their cat tree and then it starts to show some wear. Ok, this is not the vendor's fault either, my cats didn't read the instructions that they were only to insert paws through holes, not kamikaze-fall onto it from 4' above. Seriously though, it's a cardboard box with holes in so it starts to bend in spots and over more time I'm sure it will take on more damage. The folder cardboard inserts probably help maintain the structure longer though. As for its usability, my Maine Coons were super curious as I started putting the toy together (it wasn't hard to do) and it didn't take them long to figure out that they needed to get the treats I put inside of it out so that they could eat them. But, it's not easy, at least at first. I suppose that's the point, to keep them entertained trying but my guys have lots to do around our house and didn't feel like this was worth too much time after the initial fascination. I did notice one morning that Floki had turned it upside down which I thought was a good strategy to get the treats to fall out! He's the older of the two (3 years) and now and then I catch him with his paw in there trying for a treat but that doesn't last long. Jax, the 1 year old, is much less interested in this toy and he's the most curious of the two. Perhaps our Maine Coons are just spoiled and don't think they should have to work for their Rabbit Bite treats :) We have a number of cat toys around. The one they return to consistently over a long time (Floki started with it as a kitten) is Petstages Cat Tracks Cat Toy - where there are three circular levels and a ball in each and they push it around. I wake in the middle of the night hearing the sound of them playing with it. There are many versions/makes of this popular toy. They also really like the Catit Circuit Track. We got that a couple years ago and it continues to provide both of these guys with entertainment. They only toy I leave out all the time is the Cat Tracks. It's small and doesn't get in the way and the boys use it regularly. The other toys, including this cardboard box maze/puzzle, get put away in the closet and I bring one of them out now and then. That way it's something new and interesting instead of them seeing it daily and just ignoring it, which happens. We'll see if that tactic helps with their interest in this box. If you are looking for another fun option for your cat, this might be it. Or not. Just depends on your cats. I can see that it would be helpful as a slow-feeder if you have a cat that eats too much too quickly. My boys don't but they do like treats. BTW, we buy Vital Essentials Rabbit Bites and these Maine Coons love them. They are one ingredient, rabbit - freeze dried. It's a good thing!

Very effective attention getter
The moment I put it down and placed her favourite treats in the hole suggested she took straight to it and worked out really quickly how to get them out her own way.

So good, I bought more for my friends!
I purchased this for my 10-year-old cat. He is a manx and is very treat-oriented. I had started him off a couple of years earlier on one of those treat balls that you roll around, and then added the Senses Treat Maze (the round one on the ground with two options inside the dome). Each time I introduced one of these things, he first looked at me like, "You're kidding me, right?" But then I'd show him his treats were inside and help him out a bit. Then, even for an older cat, he caught on and eagerly looked forward to his treat-puzzle time. I began looking for some variety in puzzles to keep his brain challenged, so when I saw this Cat Amazing one, I thought I'd try it. The low-environmental impact of the cardboard also appealed to me. It comes in a very cute package that you easily set up with the instructions provided. It's very sturdy and durable, yet light. I've had it for 6 months and it still looks new. My cat took to this right away. It was easy to assemble and makes him work for his food, and he seems to be using more hunting instincts than with the other toys. He's sniffing, peeking through holes, and using strategy to get the treats out. What has also been great is that I've been able to swap the Temptations for the larger-sized dental food that the vet wants him to have as a therapeutic treat for his teeth. The larger pieces are a bit easier to navigate the inside maze, so he likes that it's not too overly hard. Since this was a hit with my older cat, I have ordered more and gifted them to two of my friends who have kittens. Big hit. Kept the one kitten occupied for well over an hour during our visit. She would have kept going had we kept adding more treats. If my cat was young again, I might have replaced his daily food dish for an interactive activity like this. I'd highly recommend this to anyone with a cat. The other puzzle my cat loves is the Trixie Brain Mover (blue/white). Every morning he eagerly waits for me to put his healthy treats in it (shhh - don't tell him they're healthy!). Then every evening, he gets treats in his Cat Amazing puzzle. We have a great routine. My only regret is that I didn't even know these things existed until he was 8-10 years old. Now we're making up for lost time.

Not for every cat.
This is a cut out cardboard box with partitions. The treats get caught under the partitions and the cat cannot access them. Both my cats lost interest very quickly. My cats do not play with it. And on that basis I would not recommend it.

My cat loves this
Initially I just thought it was an expensive cardboard box that my cat paid no attention to but after a while she really got into digging the treats out and she looks so cute when she does. She loves this box! Five paws review!
