I purchased this TV based upon what I read regarding value for what you get. This is TCL's current flagship model. I am very happy I did after living with it for a bit. Ordering and shipping- Ordering was easy and the unit arrived in excellent shape brought into the house by the delivery crew. Packaging- TV is very well packaged and it seems care is taken not to allow damage to occur. TV was well insulated with foam and cardboard over the screen. Also had a film protector on the screen and clear tape on the bezels. Setup- use the shipping box braced internally with the packing foam to lay the TV face down and attached the stand. Very easy with two people. TV is very stable and is well built. The built in audio system is louder than my old TV and I find no need for external audio. Initialization is easy just follow the on-screen directions. I did noticed the built in Google OS seemed a little slow upon first set up. I use an external streaming box so have not used the built in apps since setup. You simply need the Google Home app to complete setup. The TCL app that is recommended to download is broken. It locks up when asking for location permissions on an Android phone. The TV updated to the latest OTA firmware and all was well. Support- I contacted TCL support via the web page to ask a few pre purchase questions. They got back to me within hours if not the next day. Answers were concise and helpful. I also called the support number on a Saturday and spoke to a person I could understand. Each time I have engaged support I have been taken care of. Thoughts- When I first got the TV I was hesitant. It was a great deal for a 75" TV with a lot of performance/bell and whistles. I did go back and forth about swapping it out with an offering from LG. I am very happy I did not. From what I have read this TCL doesn't quite have OLED level blacks. However, to my eyes, this TV has about as black as I could ask for. The picture, once dialed in, is excellent for all content and gaming on an Xbox. I would suggest reading about picture settings to get an idea of what you want to start with. There is a crap ton of settings you can adjust. The TV right out the box was very bright to me. Nit picks- The HDMI inputs are out of order for my preference. HDMI 1 is 4K@144 so gaming. HDMI 2 is 4K@120. The remaining HDMI's are 4K@60 with one being eArc. I would like my streaming to be on HDMI 1 and my console to be on 2. This is just my quirk. The TCL app is not up to par. I am not sure what it actually does but as I said I could not use it. Overall this is a great TV and I am very happy. I did a lot of research and suffered analysis paralysis. In the end I took a shot and am not disappointed. I would highly recommend!!!

This thing is so bright I actually turned the contrast down a little bit. The picture is amazing. The black level adjustment has small increments to allow you to dial it in. I'm able to see a lot of detail in dark images without it looking washed out. I don't notice any blooming AT ALL around bright objects on a dark screen. The colors are amazing. The only complaint I have is motion handling, which is going to happen on any LCD TV. But this one is better than most. I hate the soap opera effect and am very sensitive to it. But this has separate controls for motion smoothing and judder reduction. I kept motion smoothing at 1 and set the judder reduction to 3-4. This makes slow panning images smoother without looking choppy. At the same time, it does not make people look like floating ghosts as they move. Sports also look fantastic on this TV. Especially if you have a device capable of adaptive frame rate. I was able to watch auto racing in 1080p @ 120Hz and could clearly read all of the advertising on the fence as they went flying across the screen. I can't really comment too much on the sound, as I only used the built in speakers when I first unpacked it. From what I could tell, it sounded pretty good. Better than your average TV and probably good enough that I wouldn't buy a sound bar. But I have a full surround sound system, so again, I didn't test the built in speakers very long. As for the inputs, I like that the eARC is on HDMI 4 so you can plug in a game system or something with VRR on HDMI 1. If you have more than one device with VRR you're going to need either an 8K HDMI switch or buy a full AVR and speaker setup that is compatible.

So far I am pretty happy with this TV. I am coming from a 55" LG B9 oled and sit about 10 feet away from the TV. At first, I was a little disappointed with the upscaling for YoutubeTV and similar streaming 720p or 1080p feeds. Some of that may be going from the 55" to 65" but sitting at the same distance. It has gotten better however and it really does seem to depend on the quality of the feed, not necessarily the TV itself. Some channels or shows look really really good. Some can be grainy with motion. Just depends. On any other content (for instance streaming 4k, Dolby Vision, etc) the TV is tremendous. It is indeed very bright and can really "pop" if that's what you're looking for. Again, it really depends on the content. Coming from an OLED, I have yet to tell much difference at all between the blacks here and OLED-level blacks. There might just be the faintest amount of blooming that I can notice but that just might be my eyes. It gets plenty dark with very "inky" blacks. I would recommend upgrading the firmware when you get the TV to version V201, which can be found on the Avsforum page for this TV. Everyone there says that is the best firmware and made a big improvement on motion handling with the TV. I installed it immediately upon getting the TV so don't have anything to compare it to, but again as of now I am pretty pleased with the picture quality as long as the source is solid. The google TV interface is pretty fast and responsive so far. 64 gb storage internally is plenty to install lots of apps. Ethernet is only 100 mbps so may want to get a 1gb adapter for the USB 3.0 port - that's what I am doing. I am debating about trying a Nvidia Shield Pro to see if it can upgrade the upscaling at all but I don't think it will be a major upgrade. I have not used it for gaming at all but would assume it would look great with lots of pop, similar to what you would see with HDR or dolby vision content.

I would give this 5 stars but after waiting all day for delivery and deluxe removal of trash service, the delivery company just left it at the front door. And yes, it began to rain but since I was checking the door often I saw it before it got soaked. The TV was upside down in the box and had grass hanging off the binding straps as it was dragged across the lawn. Being a 75" TV, the box was about 8 foot long and very bulky. My wife and I got it in the door and I called Amazon to discuss. We asked for the delivery service to return and make it right, set up the TV and remove packaging materials et. but they could not arrange that. My wife asked to speak with a manager and was transferred to a manger named Karen who was very apologetic and helpful. We unpacked the box with Amazon on the phone and there was no visible damage to the TV. The TV was going to be mounted on the provided stand versus wall mount which was easy enough to set up. My wife set up our apps on her phone in about 20 minutes. Very easy. If you're listening Amazon, you could have had 5 stars and a very satisfied customer but waiting 10 hours in a delivery window with no advance call etc is horrible. I waited a whole day for set up and I ended up doing it myself. Right now I'm having to break down the Styrofoam and cardboard which is immense. At least into our curbside cans. I also purchased a 3 year warranty which I hope to never use. I'll update down the road. Again, great TV picture so far, no issues with uploading apps and the 7.1 surround with my Fluance speakers and Klipsch subwoofer is better than the theater. Can't wait for SEC football on the big screen.

Great TV for a medium sized living room. Great picture quality with vibrant colors and dark blacks. The built in speaker is decent but if you like watching movies and dramatic TV shows where sound matters you'll want a separate system. The software is kinda slow, but usable. Lots of ads of course, but that's the world we live in. The Plex App is very slow though and was so annoying to use that I bought an Nvidia Shield instead and have just been using that instead of the TV's interface. Coming from an older 50" Sony bravia smart TV this was a huge upgrade and after watching many movies, TV shows, animes, and sports events, I don't have any complaints at all. Definitely a model I can recommend. It has its shortfalls, but they're the same as any other TV (built in speakers, sluggish operating system,etc) so I'm not dropping any stars.

I really wanted to love this TV but after the first TV arrived shattered and the replacement arrived with faulty LEDs I can't recommend this at all. Given the first arrived shattered and promptly returned I can only speak to the experience with the second one. At first the TV seemed perfect, great color, great brightness, great software performance, but the cracks began to show almost immediately: 1. flickering LEDs: the left edge of my screen, even after firmware updates and even a factory reset, shimmer and flicker. It's TV-wide and appears in menus and content alike. 2. various settings will be available arbitrarily depending on which picture mode you use (why is light sensor auto brightness disabled in Smart HDR picture mode?) not to mention that none of the picture modes get as bright as "vivid" despite dialing in advanced settings. 3. remote and bluetooth controllers disconnect periodically and consistently, making the TV uncontrollable for up to 10 seconds at a time. 4. Noticeable input latency when trying to run Moonlight or Steam Link with no ability to turn on low latency mode in TV apps. 5. small but noticeable visual glitches when navigating menus (this is thankfully only for a split second at a time) I'm fully aware I can return this TV again and get yet another replacement but somewhere in the chain of quality control has failed me twice and some fatal software flaws make this TV subpar at best for me, especially at the price. I will return this TV and look for a more reputable brand.

I bought the 75-inch model (2024 model) two months ago. For months, I read professional reviews online, and couldn’t decide among this, the Hisense U8, and (going a step up) the LG C4. I eventually ruled out the C4 because the extra $800 or so for the 77-inch model just wasn’t worth it for whatever minor difference I might actually notice in contrast/blooming in certain scenes when I’m watching a movie. I then ruled out the Hisense because the 75-inch model uses a different panel than the other sizes, with worse contrast (although better off-axis viewing). That left the TCL, which was on my list in the first place for its brightness, fine contrast, and good sound quality. Keep in mind that high brightness does not mean that you’ll just be blinded by light all the time. Rather, certain things are very bright, such as sunsets and headlights, for example. So much so, that it adds almost a 3D aspect to the viewing experience. I find the picture to be stunning, and easy to dial in. I set it to “movie,” and move the color temperature to “warm.” I turn on the motion control, but adjust only the judder reduction, to 1. I turn on the micro contrast to high as well. To me, that’s the most natural and crisp picture for just about everything. It’s not great at upscaling low bitrate or SD content, but that is not a priority for me anyway. I’ve looked for blooming in many different scenes, and only in the most extreme instances of contrast — with a bright light moving in a pitch-black environment — do I see very minor blooming. You have to be looking for blooming like a hawk though to detect any lack of total blackness in the black areas of the screen. The contrast is striking, the colors look natural, and the picture can be as bright as you need it to be. I think the sound is great. Booming, even… and the dialogue is crisp and easy to understand when you set it to “voice.” Some reviews say “get a soundbar,” but those reviewers must have very high standards, because I can’t imagine needing more sound, unless you have a massive room or expect to feel like you’re in an IMAX theater. But you may demand more from audio than I do. The interface for Google TV is very good and responsive, and I don’t notice any lag to speak of. I’ll note that I connect the TV directly with an Ethernet cable just to ensure a constant, fast connection without interference. I just have nothing bad to say about this TV. It looks and sounds great. My last TCL TV was still working fine after seven years, and hopefully this one will too. Worth every penny!

My living room TV passed away last Saturday. On Sunday I went online to 2 highly respected websites to check out their recommendations. One slightly older review named the TCL QM8 series as the best for price, and the other named the most recent updated version, the QM851 (released May 2024), as giving the most bang for the buck. So I checked out Amazon and on that day they were offering the 851 for $1000 (a bit more than I was planning on spending). But based on the ratings I went ahead and ordered it. The next day I looked it up again, and Amazon and other websites were selling it for $1500. When it arrived and I set it up, I was really impressed with the brightness, color, and sound. Here's the funny thing...if it had been listed as $1500 when I first looked, I wouldn't have considered buying it. After seeing it in action, I will swear to you that $1500 is an absolute bargain price for what you get here. If you need a TV right now, bite the bullet and spend the $1500. You won't be sorry. If you can wait a couple months, you might be able to snag one at a lower price around Thanksgiving. BTW, the reviewers noted that other brands (Sony, LG, Samsung) are only just slightly better, yet cost 2-3 times more. This TV is great in picture, brightness, sound, and color. Another strong positive is the pedestal style stand. If it stood on side legs it would not have fit on my TV stand, and I wouldn't have considered it. That being said, the pedestal base stand is not very attractive, and that's the only (very slightly) negative thing I have to say about it.
