This is the classic precious metals refiner’s book by C.M. Hoke, originally written in 1940, and as referred to by famous YouTuber SREETIPS. Refining and melting precious metals is risky for amateurs, since it involves the use of strong chemicals, poisonous gassing and high temperatures. This book is a MUST READ textbook that should be carefully studied prior to attempting to refining metals on your own. This book describes the building of a safe working lab room, including safety gear, ventilation system, work bench materials, lab equipment, fire hazard and the safe handling, storage and disposal of chemicals. It explains the chemical reactions, of which the most interesting ones are of course the refinement of low carat gold and silver to 9999 pure, and the smelting into shiny ingots. The book was originally written for dentists, for them to be able to reuse gold and platinum fillings and false teeth. It also refers to old hardware stores’ cathalogs incl references and item prices (!) from the 1940’s. this book is very informative. I use it as knowledge fact, very recommended for any one in refining.

Great book

You do not need this book. Because this book was published in 1940 and written before that, just about any YouTube video is going to be more helpful than this book. It's great if you got the money to blow and you want to have the book like a prized Pokémon card, but it's not super useful. More up to date information is available on online forums such as gold refiners or other books that cost a third as much. This is my warning to the world.

I never give anything 5 stars. This is an excellent book if you are looking to get into the hobby or for the pro who wants to improve their refining skills. It came very well packaged, I thought it was a hard cover. I think it comes faster than Amazon stock to my house.

This was a great book to read. Very informative to refining metals. I used this for the information was given to refine gold and silver. It was worth buying and ordering the book it arrived before they predicted that it would.
