Sturdy mount (preferably on studs) but clunky operation
The installation is supremely easy - one plate mount screwed into the wall (definitely go for studs over the anchors for more reliability). You definitely don't want it ripping out of the ceiling for when you're aggressive with maneuvering your equipment. For a normal height ceilign like mines, it hangs lower than my fan, but not so low that I have to worry bumping my head into it when I get up (it hangs over my seating area, as that is also where I film. With a light connected, it does go much lower, so keep in mind if you were planning on running a big dome light. You would need more overhead clearance at that point. But even with a much taller ceiling, this thing gives you plenty of length to work with. I currently only have one hung as I have not decided where to put my other one, but I may do a horizontal pullout from my wall. But where I think this equipment fumbles is in its operation. It isn't deal breaking by any means. You pull on a lever to unlock the drop pantograph to lower it to your desired height. However, when bringing it up back up, there isn't enough of a guidance mechanism in place to prevent the guiding wires from being re-positioned out of the reel, which causes the entire retraction to get stuck. This means you'll be digging your fingers into the reel to fish the line back out, which may or may not be potentially injurious.I would love to have these installed on a sliding rail system but my current studio space won't allow for it. It comes with the standard spigot mounting system to hold itself up, so as long as the rail system accommodates that, you should be able to incorporate this into your existing rail setup if you run that setup.

Keeps your workspace clutter free
This system is an amazing option to help keep your studio floor clear of obstructions. I do not have to keep extra C stands laying around in the studio nowadays. When these do not have lights attached to them and are recessed all the way in, they hang lower from the ceiling than a ceiling fan. This gives you plenty of headway for normal height ceilings. These are fairly heavy so you may need assistance when installing them on your ceiling. The installation is simple, as long as you know where the ceiling joists are located. These will definitely need to be installed into the joists and not into drywall as they are heavy enough to rip out of the drywall. The Pantograph can be remove from the pins that are affixed to the ceiling if you do not want them hanging at all times. The only thing that would make this better was if it had a way to attach to a sliding rail system that wasn’t $1000. These are great options but can be limiting if you are dynamic in your light setups. They are strong enough to hold my heaviest strobes and softbox at any desired height.
