Book Description The fantastic first cookery book from the winner of The Great British Bake Off 2012 About the Author John Whaite is the winner of the BBC's the Great British Bake Off, 2012. He has been a keen baker and cook since he was a tiny tot, when he would spend many hours in the kitchen with his mum. From banking to baking, John was able to give up his mundane day job as a city commercial banker, to focus on the one thing he is truly obsessed with: food. In 2013 he fulfilled one of his lifelong dreams and attend Le Cordon Bleu in London to study the nine-month patisserie diploma.

Currently my favourite recipe book
I spent a good couple of hours with a mug of coffee just reading the book and I know I'll spend many more hours in the kitchen with it. There are so many recipes in here that I'm looking forward to trying out, I've already done a couple and they've turned out well. There's a good selection here, from bakes to share and enjoy with a hot drink to really yummy deserts to impress on the dinner table. I really like John's approach to baking and his book is a pleasure to read.I like the layout organising the bakes into moods but it really could have done with a couple of pages at the back indexing the recipes into categories so you could find them a bit quicker. For example there are bread recipes in almost every section so unless you can remember the exact name of the recipe to look it up in the index it can be a frustrating task to flip through the book to find it again, a list of all the bread recipes and their page numbers would have been great.

a very personal cook book
It's not often you get buy a recipe book and just sit down and read it, but John's book makes you do just that. And then, it inspires you to get in the kitchen, whatever your mood! John's personal take on why he bakes makes each recipe so individual something I have not seen in other books.Of course, you can dress it up all you want, are the recipes good? Yes! (The white chocolate and raspberry sponge - i will say no more.) A big plus for me is that you don't need a list of unusual ingredients the length of your arm. Most of them are usual things found in your cupboard - no need to buy something just to use a pinch of it!Now, back to the kitchen!

Excellent book by a talented baker and writer. Easy to follow. A must have for beginners to avid bakers, or even to just enjoy the swoon-inducing picture on the front.

Fantastic - does what it says on the cover!
Excellent title as the book really does contain recipes for every day and every mood.Love the little snippets of information which John gives about his life and what inspired him to create different recipes.Recipes are very easy to follow, and John's 'Baker's Notes' and 'All-important Armoury' are useful and informative.Bought the book almost a month ago, and have tried many sweet and savoury recipes (all delicious), this book is even better than I expected - hope John writes another :-)

Love this book
I was so pleased when John Whaite won GBBO as he obviously has a passion for baking. This book contains many varied recipes, some traditional but with his own 'twist' - his Raspberry and White Chocolate melting cake is to die for! The savoury palmiers, rosewater madeleines -they are all gorgeous and some lovely anecdotes to go with all the recipes.

A piece of baking magic!
A lovely book - superb pictures and very clear instructions. Better than many other baking books as it has themes for food based more around mood than the usual functional specifications. I predict many hours of baking whilst clutching this book.

Such a good book. Had it 3 days and baked seven things, all have worked perfectly. The Creme Patisserie recipe is so tasty and fool proof.
