Key-BAK Retract-A-Badge Retractable I.D. Badge Holder with a 36" Retractable Cord and Carabiner Attachment (5 Pack)

I absolutely love the design and durability of these badge ID carabiners. As of this date, I've been using the same one for 5 months without issues. I would not use these to hold anything heavier than a typical ID badge, as the string isn't anything "special". The string used is a typical string, and not reinforced or metal. As a badge holder, it excels in it's job. Previously, I used what was provided by my employer, but the standard ones given would break within a couple months. At this time, the one I've been using has shown no signs that it's going to be breaking anytime soon. The string is holding up extremely well, and it still retracts with the same force and smoothness as day one. If this changes, I will update my review with a timeline of any issues that occurs. Update: Item was purchased in July of 2014. It is now January of 2015, and I'm still using the very first badge ID carabiner. No issues what-so-ever. Another update: I'm still on my first one. It is now March 2016. The lifespan on these things is insane! Yet another update: January 2017 and still running strong on the first one! One more update: October 2019 and still on the first one. It's been almost 5 years now, and I actually gave out the remainders to co-workers / family that need them. So far, no one has commented on them failing. Whoever put these things together deserves a raise!

I purchased these to replace a broken badge holder for my daughter. They work wonderfully for their intended purpose. I took one of the additional ones and put a key ring with all of my small loyalty cards on the badge end. Then I clipped it to my purse. Now all of those little key ring tabs are easy to find and no longer being destroyed by my keys! The cord is long enough (just over a yard) to use them when checking out at a store without having to remove the clip from my purse. The string is thin but has held up well to my occasional use and to my daughter's heavy use since we received them. The carabiner clip is strong enough to keep it where you put it. The clip end is about the same size as a 1" split ring key ring in but only 1/2" deep. It weighs approximately 0.8 ounces. UPDATE: We have been using these daily for over three months now and they are still holding up just fine. There is no obvious wear or fraying on the string. I'm very happy with the product! UPDATE: We have had these in use for over a year and they are still like new! UPDATE: It is three and a half months shy of 4 years and they are still working well! If you were wondering how much it would hold, mine will support about 1.6 ounces before failing to retract.

Pros: I was looking for a nice retractible clip to go on my lanyard to use for daily badge access at work and this has done the trick for a few months now. Cons: the string unwinds and is starting to pill like some sweaters do. The plastic piece that clips to your badge has started to discolor (now it appears as dark gray) and has started to crack. I am sure I will have only a few more months before it is no longer usable. I don't "fiddle" with it, so this is just average use when badging in and out of a few doors during the day, otherwise I am pretty stationary at my desk.

I really like the diamond shape where the pull cord meets the retractable spool. It keeps my badge facing forward much better. They seem to be well made and for the count it's a good deal

I chose this because it had the most features I was looking for, though nothing had them all. After talking with a VP of sales (I believe), I took the chance that it was as they said - the nylon cords worked better than a metal cable for badge holding. I have not found that to be the case, but finding a metal cable retractor that is of any quality in the small reel size with a useable length was impossible. So I went with the best alternative - this one. All others I have looked at were either 18" cables, or used a large "key ring" reel to hold a LOT more weight (and with higher weight is a heavier pull - something I didn't want as well). There was one no-name reel that claimed most of the features (but with a 24" pull instead) but it had consistently horrible reviews, so I avoided it. It has performed as expected - I have already broke one of the nylon cables, but that is why I got a 5 pack. The company warrants it for life, so I figure after I have 3 or 4 damaged, I will send them all back (save on shipping) and have them rebuild them. Not exactly what I was looking for, but apparently it is still the best that is out there for this purpose. So until I find a better product, this will do - and as long as the warranty is honored, it is a second best choice, even if I do have to occasionally pay to ship them all back for warranty work.

I've been trying to find the right retractable badge reel literally for months. Sounds crazy, I know. But where I work I have to keep two different ID cards clipped on my belt at all times (they're RFID cards that give me access to different parts of building) I've been looking for a retractable reel where the card didn't freely spin around. Again, a very specific use, but the photo ID needs to be facing forward so security guards can see it, and normal reels would just let the badge spin around so it was never facing the right way. This reel has a small triangular plastic piece to keep it from spinning which is great. Solid feeling buikd, good length cord. Very happy

I've owned for the better part of a year now, and I'm still on my first one. I actually gave the remaining 4 to coworkers because theirs kept breaking. I don't have a lot of nicer ones to compare with, but I went through about 5 cheapo retractable ID holders in the course of a month and upgraded to these. I'll definitely buy this one again if it ever breaks, it's well worth the money! -------------------------------------------------- I purchased in June 2015, and my first carabiner lasted until August 2016. It was starting to lose a little bit of its recoil ability, which was partially due to it getting caught on things (I wear it on my belt loop so it tends to stick to my chair). It finally broke when it got caught in my car door and I walked away, snapping the line. It was completely due to misuse, or this would've lasted another couple years. I gave the rest of my 5-pack to coworkers last summer and all but one are going strong (the one has a toddler that broke it, which toddlers tend to do). The coworker purchased the next batch, these are a phenomenal value!

Our company recently moved to a site where the buildings are all access controlled and as a result I purchased these retractable badge lanyards to replace the super cheap one I was issued. I've been using mine now for about a month and aside from a few bumps and scrapes (I'm a bit clumsy), it's still as good as the day I bought it. In fact, of the ~20 lanyards I've sold around our office (they're that much better than what we were issued), the only one that broke was by a guy who caught his badge in his desk drawer and then tried to yank it out with the lanyard. So if you don't use it for tug-of-war it'll last a long time. In addition, I really appreciate the color options as I was able to find one that matches our logo color very closely.

Great product. I use it clipped to my purse for my access/ID badge at work. Nice long string, so I don't have to bend over to use it, and it retracts well. Long enough to swipe in to car park withouth taking my purse off the passenger seat (lol). Best of all, it came in a 5-pack, so I have spares and can just take off the badge without having to move the carabiner. Sturdy, but not heavy. Very pleased with it.
