A Midsummer Night's Dream (The RSC Shakespeare)

I 'had' to buy this particular edition of the play as I'm appearing in it with an am dram group and the director asked the cast to buy this RSC version. It arrived quickly (within a few days) using the Amazon standard delivery option and the script itself is fine: useful notes about the play itself including references to recent stage and screen productions and good annotations at the bottom of each script page.

It has excellent notes but what's particular to this edition is the emphasis on performance: a history of the play's performance and interviews with 3 different well-known directors that really give information and inspiration for anyone involved in a production of the play or even just for the interested reader.

I've been collecting the RSC editions every time I do a production of a new Shakespeare for a while. They're usually neat, well designed and very informative. This edition is about an inch too wide and tall, has a different finish, the cover design is a little squint, and the print is still the size of the proper small editions. I don't know where Amazon are sourcing them, but it looks like a cheap pirate copy. Will be sending it back and buying from the RSC website, and would advise checking for the right dimensions (around 13 by 20cm) before buying any of these from Amazon.
