Extremely well made, but not suitable for those with TMJ, unfortunately!
This cervical traction device is well made, and I believe it would be beneficial for most people with degenerative disc disease. I purchased this on the advice of my ortho doc to help with radiculopathy pain and tingling (in arms and hands) and with trigeminal neuralgia (often referred to as the “suicide headache”), symptoms stemming from degenerative disc disease (spinal stenosis, spondylosis, osteophytes placing pressure on my peripheral nerves). Unfortunately, because I also suffered from TMJ many years ago, this device was not for me, and I had to send it back. There is a warning about TMJ in the user guide, and people with TMJ history should take this seriously! Using the device conservatively for approximately one week exacerbated my old TMJ, and I ended up with a raging headache and jaw pain (on top of the excruciating trigeminal neuralgia head pain I already had). Overall, I think this is a well made device that would be comfortable to use, as long as you don’t also have jaw problems like me! Also, the customer service is outstanding! My order arrived quickly, but the pump device I received was faulty. Understanding that I purchased the device to try and alleviate pain, the manufacturer sent a replacement pump via overnight delivery! The new pump worked perfectly, and to be honest, I was heartbroken that I needed to send the whole thing back. I really do feel like this product is a great value, especially when one consider the out of pocket cost and inconvenience involved with going to a PT office to use a traction device. And the convenience of not being “stuck” in a doorway, or on the floor is nice- you can use this while lying down or while sitting/standing/walking, as long as you don’t try to turn your head. So, unless you have (or have had) TMJ, I would definitely give this a try!
