Game-Changer for Speed and Reliability
The A400 SSD has been a phenomenal upgrade for my system! Its performance and features make it a clear winner for anyone looking to enhance their computer’s speed and efficiency. Fast Start-Up and File Transfers: This SSD delivers exactly as advertised. Booting up my system now takes seconds, and file transfers are incredibly quick, saving me tons of time on everyday tasks. The advertised read speeds of 500MB/s and write speeds of 450MB/s hold up in real-world use, providing a noticeable performance boost. Compact Form Factor: At just 7mm thick, it’s a perfect fit for slim notebooks or systems with limited space. I installed it in a smaller laptop, and the process was seamless—no more worrying about finding the right-sized drive. Reliable and Durable: Unlike traditional hard drives, this SSD is far more reliable. I don’t have to worry about moving parts failing, and it performs consistently even under heavy usage. It has been running smoothly in a range of temperatures without any hiccups. Ample Storage: The 480GB capacity is a sweet spot for most users, offering enough space for applications, files, and even as a primary drive replacement. If you’re looking for an SSD to breathe new life into an older system or improve your current setup’s performance, the A400 is an excellent choice. It’s reliable, fast, and perfect for a wide range of applications. Highly recommend!

Great replacement for older SSDs in older systems.
While this product is very much an entry level SSD using a DRAMless design, if you have an older secondary system that may have been using an 80-120GB SSD (such as the older SATA 2 ones from intel, OCZ and other companies), then this SSD offers a noticeable performance boost. I used this to replace a failed SDSSDH-120G-G25 120GB Sandisk ultra SSD, which was used as the main system drive for a media center PC. The process to restore was quite fast, as I only needed to restore a system image from my weekly backups. Details about the drive: I am unsure of variations in production, but the unit I received, details the following for the controller and NAND. While I have not personally experienced, it, some people have complained about the company changing hardware while keeping the same model number so long as the hardware meets or exceeds advertised specs. If this holds true, then it can mean the potential for variation between devices received, but the combination of Controller and NAND that I received, has worked well Controller: Phison PS3111-S11 NAND: Toshiba 15nm TLC NAND Strengths: Great read performance: Tasks such as bulk transfers (datasets that do not need a very high IOPS), would hover around 500-540MB/s. From my initial stress testing before using it as a system drive for the media center PC, I used it as a secondary game drive for 2 days, trying games such as Ark Survival Evolved, and The Witcher 3. For load times, performance was in line with higher end drives such as my Samsung 850 Pro, thus showing that games that are not IO intensive, do not need a very high end SSD to get great load times. Decent write speeds for a DRAMless TLC drive: Write speeds are slower due to the DRAMless design and small process node TLC NAND. If copying a single massive file e.g., 20+GB video, you can expect speeds in 450MB/s range, but if you are simply copying a folder with mixed files, such as a folder of image files in the 15-30MB range, will drop to the 280-350MB/s range. The peak speeds you see in most synthetic benchmarks are only achievable on linear reads or linear writes. Low temperatures: One benefit to lower end SSDs, is they do not generate much heat. Even when installed on the SSD mounts located behind the motherboard tray (where there isn’t much ventilation), the drive peaked at 30C during a stress test, even though the ambient temperature in the room was 23C Weaknesses: Large drop in performance compared to higher end SSDs, when it comes to high IO mixed workloads, such as if an application such as a screen recorder video editor using it as a scratch disk. You can have as little as 15MB/s worth of high IOPS writes (many tiny writes), and it will take linear reads down from the 500-540MB/s range, down to the 350MB/s range, wall while having no CPU bottleneck (no signs of the process scheduler using 100% of CPU time from any o the cores). This is common for all DRAMless drives where they struggle with mixed workloads. It still handles these tasks better than any of the older SATA II based SSDs that I have used, but it is much slower than modern MLC NAND SATA III SSDs with DRAM onboard. The use of 15nm TLC NAND will mean that write endurance will be low on these drives. This is perfectly fine for users who will mostly be doing reading such as using the drive for game installs, or as a system drive for a computer where you will not be working with many files on the SSD. In my case, since the media is stored on a NAS, the SSD will see very little in the way of writes. The 240GB model is rated for 80TB of writes over the life of the drive. This basically means that it would be a bad choice for write intensive workloads. This ultimately reduces the versatility of the drive, but as long as you understand the limits, and thus make an informed decision, this is a great value for an SSD.

Faster than ever
So I had a customer that needed a new hard drive. I opted for this Kingston SSD because I had always had good results with this brand. I changed out the part and my computer is operating at optimal level. The speed my computer was running at is awesome. I would highly recommend this product.

Do not listen to the bad reviews.
After reading a review by a DGS fellow that said he had 30 years in the tech business, I thought this was a real P.O.S.. Well, a little while ago my Ex called me up because she was having some issues with her computer and wanted me to look at it. Being the sap I am, I said ok. Turns out the HDD was bad. The bells went off and I remembered the review left buy the tech guy in Florida and I thought "Eureka!". I would get this SSD for her system and within a few days her computer would explode like a dumpster full of TNT. I get the SSD not on time but a full day early in fact. It installs super easy and she comes and picks it up. I have to hide my excitement as I just wait to hear about the evil that is to come. So after about a week I get anxious and call the Ex to see what was up. Her "Boy Toy" answers and gives me the dreaded news. Not only is it still running, but it is super fast and efficient. He then proceeds to thank me and compliment me on "How mature" it was of me to do this for her even after how messy the divorce was. And how good of a person I really was for being the bigger person and all of that. Long story short, if your looking for a piece of hardware to sabotage your Ex's computer with, this is not it. But, if you are looking for a stable SSD on the cheap to add some performance to your system, well, sadly this is in fact it.

Drop in upgrade for my Dell Inspiron 5559 laptop. Cut boot time from 3 minutes to about 20 seconds
My old faithful Dell Inspiron 5559 laptop (Intel Core i5-6200U CPU @ 2.30GHz / 2.40 GHz) (circa 2017) was staring to show its age. Incredibly slow to boot and sluggish all around. Did not want to drop hundreds on a new machine so rolled up my sleeves and dug in. First upgraded the RAM from 8mb to 16mb. Helped overall performance but not boot time. Went all in and decided a new SSD to replace the original HDD was in order. Chose this Kingston 960gb A400 SATA drive based upon price and info from the Kingston web site that said it would be a drop in replacement. It was and after two weeks in operation I could not be happier. Got me a USB3.0 to 2.5 SATA SDD Cable (Amazon item B00HJZJI84) to clone my old drive to the new. For unknown reasons, I could not get the Acronis True Image cloning software that is available for free download at the Kingston web site to work. It kept telling me there was not enough space on the new SSD even though I was transferring less than 200gb to a 960gb drive. Eventually downloaded a free trial version of Maricum Reflect X and used that to clone my old HDD to the new Kingston SSD. The Maricum software worked on the first try. Once the clone was complete I removed the old HDD from the laptop and installed the new SSD. There are plenty of tutorials on YouTube so I will leave that to you. Powered up the laptop and after a few self-induced power cycles it booted up. Only oddity I experienced is the Dell BIOS made me reset the system time. Since then the Kingston SSD has worked perfectly. The boot up time is spectacular compared to my old HDD and with the expanded RAM the laptop is humming along. The SDD, cable, and the RAM set me back less then a Hundo. A huge savings over purchasing a new machine. Of course time will tell but for now I highly recommend !
