Work well, only one anomoly alarm on seven units in eight months.
Got tired of replacing batteries every year...especially after the fire department came on a test alarm (long sad story). Seven alarms have been in use for eight months with one anomaly alarm total. These were straight forward to install to replace the battery operated variety. Seems like a good investment

Finally, no more false alarms!
I bought a ton of these for my house because I wanted a 10-year product that I don't have to worry about replacing batteries in. I had one old detector somewhere in the house that would always go off when I cooked even when there was no visible smoke. I got tired of guessing and replacing the 9v batteries in my old ones so just got about 12 of these and did my old house. Finally I can cook in peace! These were easy to install although I did have to get new pigtail adapters for these to work in my existing ceiling boxes.

Good unit , too expensive!
Works exactly for what I needed, but just holy ‘smokes’, literally these too expensive per unit! But as far as wiring, connectivity, fit, etc everything is all good. This is a trusted brand.

Why can't Kidde make new detectors that use the same connector?
If this were a review of just the item, I would give it five stars. I already have Kidde smoke/carbon monoxide detectors in the house. Problem is, the original equipment ones are starting to go. They'll start beeping in the middle of the night. Replace the batteries, and they go on beeping. Tried factory reset and just letting them sit, to no avail. That means it's time to replace. After the third one started to go, I figured out the whole house needed new detectors. $$$$Four stars: These devices work in concert with your other hardwired Kidde detectors, even prior generation. The rub? The connector is different! That's right, in order for these to work, you either need to re-wire or buy an adapter. Here's the thing, they use the same mount, but need a different connection!! Why?? Some people might be capable of changing out the wiring, but that is very inconvenient at the top of a stepladder. I was able to connect the adapter and then install the unit one-handed. Kidde could do us all a favor and just update the unit without changing either the mount or connection. They simply choose not to.Of note: My state changed code recently and now requires the 10 year non-replaceable battery option for all new installations. I did opt to get a couple of those units for the really hard-to-reach locations. Regardless of the replaceable or non-replaceable battery options, all units work on the same circuit just fine.

Great product, make sure to check if you need the adapter to connect the wires from the ceiling to the unit, the connection on this one is different than older models.

A Ten Year Battery is the way to go
After multiple occasions where my AA Battery/Hardwired smoke and carbon monoxide alarm went off in the middle of the night, this 10 year battery unit has saved me from the AA battery drain syndrome. This unit is easy to install, has many features such as voice to alert you, and is just a better alternative to AA battery units.I highly encourage everyone to consider this Kidde Unit.

Received defective product.
I got these to replace expired 10 year old Kidde hardwired/battery alarms which had started chirping at random hours. The manufacture date on these new ones was only 6 months old. The alarms came in brown boxes (not the original looking Kidde boxes you see on the web site) with a Kidde label, wiring harness, alarm with base plate,a red dust cover, instructions, but no mounting screws. The first alarm I screwed together , it activated with a chirp, but then I could not unscrew it to make a wire harness adjustment. This would have been a disaster had it been firmly attached to the ceiling. I thought this might be a one off. The second unit, I could not get it to screw to the base. The battery screw on this second unit was pointing towards the on position out of the box, but pushing the test button did not elicit a beep or voice message. I opened a third unit and it did not screw easily onto the base and I decided to return them. There appeared to be some superficial damage in the center of the label on two of the units. I could not figure out why these units would not unscrew from the base or screw onto the base. The existing old Kidde alarms in my house easily unscrewed from the base. The old base can not be reused; it is the same diameter, but different structurally from the new base.I will probably try to find the new alarm in theoriginal Kidde packaging-other reviewers here are not reporting this problem.By the way, separately I recently reviewed the similar Kidde 10 year battery smoke carbon monoxide alarm-not hardwired-and the alarm screwed easily to the base plate with no installation problems; these came in original Kidde packaging with anchor screws and red dust covers.
