I have to do a lot of ironing for my work clothes. I have battled with corded irons for decades. I recently had the bright idea to explore "cordless" irons. I didn't even know if such a beast existed. I looked around and settled on the Panasonic NI-L70SR (say that 5 times fast!) after reading numerous reviews here on Amazon and other sites. When it arrived, I fired it up to test it out. First off - the build quality is VERY nice and the fit and finish is excellent. The directions are easy and it heats up fast. I usually use the medium heat / steam setting and find this works perfectly for the "permanent press" items I usually iron. I was amazed at how long the iron holds its heat. There is an internal temp switch that shuts off the steam when the iron cools enough so you simply set it back in the base to heat it back up. This usually takes less than 15 seconds to produce steam again. You will hear a slight click and steam will start flowing. I find no real difference in ironing with the cordless iron from a regular corded one time wise. As you adjust your clothing on the ironing board, you simply place the iron back on the base (which is incredibly easy to do) and it quickly heats back up. With a regular iron, you would stand it there while you make the same clothing adjustment. Ironing without the cord is fantastic. No more gathered material as the cord catches as you reposition, causing wrinkles where you just ironed! Once done, you remove the easy-off tank, empty, wipe down and allow to cool. Like I said earlier, the thing holds heat for a long time afterwards. If there is any drawback I have found is that it takes a while to cool off before you can snap on the plastic cover for storage. All in all, I highly recommend this iron to anyone who wants to give cordless ironing a try. You won't be disappointed... Bill

▪️Update March 2021: For anyone wondering about the iron’s longevity, mine just turned 8 years old, & I’m still loving it & am happy to see it is still available for purchase. If there was a better model this would’ve been discontinued long ago. ▪️Original Review Jan 2013 I'm a careful shopper who does research before purchasing items such as small appliances. What I found on each site was that this iron consistently received high marks. After using it just one time I discovered why - It is simply perfect! Few people really enjoy ironing, but this iron makes light work of the task. With no cord to contend with, the ironing time is reduced. It heats up rather quickly and maintains the selected heat setting as long as you put the iron down on it's base occasionally - like when you are turning or repositioning a garment. It offers three settings for steam & each one provides excellent steam power but never 'spits' water out of the stem vents like many irons do. I paid nearly double this price for my last iron, a Rowenta, & it would do the spit thing occasionally. This terrific appliance offers a few pluses not frequently seen on other makes/brands: 1-The water inlet has an attached cap which snaps shut, thus providing a waterproof closure. No more water spilling out the top! 2-The base has a retractable cord that eliminates the sloppy appearance of a cord wrapped around the iron 3-The handled cover has metal latches on each side which securely connect it to the base, thus allowing it to double as a carrying case. In summary, I am as pleased as I can be with this iron ... & years from now when it breathes its last breath, I hope that there will be a descendant of this model available. If not my family may have to wear wrinkled clothes because I don't believe I'd have the patience to deal with anything less than the best - which is my opinion of this iron! Go ahead and purchase this iron with confidence that in a very short period of time, it will definitely spoil you by it's superior design and performance!

I bought this cordless iron to replace my older Panasonic cordless NI-1500Z. I've been using the old one for almost 10 years, and it still works just fine, but I thought it was time to try out a new model. This iron works even better than the old one. With the older model, I'd usually need to spray water on my clothes to get the all wrinkles out, even with a high steam setting. Not so with the new Panasonic; it irons all the wrinkles out very quickly without using a spray bottle. The iron seems to heat up faster than my old iron. I was already accustomed to putting the iron back on its base every time I set it down, but I haven't yet had to wait while it reheats as I often did with the earlier iron. The stainless steel soleplate glides easily over fabric, and it has a lot more steam holes than the earlier Panasonic. The carrying case and the cord reel are great. They were deciding factors when I was thinking about buying another iron. The cord reel is very handy; I pull it out only far enough to reach the outlet, so the cord doesn't drag on the floor. After ironing, the cord reels completely into the base. The cover snaps right over the iron as it sits on the base unit, and it has a hinged carrying handle that nests flush with the top of the cover. As I've found with most Panasonic products, it is well-made; the parts fit well together, and it feels sturdy. It looks nice, too. The price was actually about 25% less than I paid for the old model 10 years ago. I hope this one lasts as well as its predecessor has.

Update. It’s now 2021 and my iron is still good as new. That’s right it’s 11 years old and I abuse the crap out of it too! I see some reviews had issues but mine is perfect .. other than how dirty it is 😂.. almost too perfect because I’m tired of looking at it and want something new “just because”. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy this again. Purchased in 2010. Still my favorite iron. I purchased this iron on a whim because I hate, yes actually hate, cords of any kind and it's a life mission to find cordless items and alternatives. Enter the "cordless" iron! The iron sits on a dock which takes a little getting used to because generally in between clothes and when adjusting your clothing item, you would place your iron standing up. This is almost like placing it flat, but it's docked. It's the closest I Think we will get to a true cordless .. at least for a while. The iron itself seems to be made well, of decent weight, and does not break easily. We have had a few accidents where it's been knocked over and have not had any issues with things breaking off. The cord retracts nicely into the base and there is a plastic dome cover that clicks onto the base with a carry handle for easy mobility... Especially when you have a ton of clothes, starch, and iron board and and toddler in your hands. I particularly like the dome because when I'm done ironing I retract the cord, snap the top on, and put it away in the cabinet while it's still hot. The iron is protected from other surfaces while safely in its bubble . I'm sure the mfg would recommend waiting for it to cool before storing but this is one of the things I love ... That I font have to keep the darn thing around waiting for for it to cool (waiting to accidentally burn myself) before I can put it away. Done, snap, click, and back in the cabinet! The water reservoir is removable for easy filling which I think is pretty standard, but still convenient. I have never....ever... Used distilled water as recommended in these type appliances. Who has a cabinet of that hanging around? None the less I have seen no visible wear and tear on the unit and the steam function works just as perfect as the day I bought it. The ONLY reason for 4 stars rather than 5? Remember what I said about how you rest it on the dock in between adjusting, rather than just sitting it upright like a normal iron? Ok well you want to keep the dock nearby obviously so that you can easily dock/undock in a fluid movement. The dock takes up more space than just resting your iron upright. I have a Huge ironing board and usually put the dock right on the board and its perfect. You could also set up your board near a counter so it's ergonomic. So in factz although this item is cordless for all intents and purposes, there still is an aspect of being tethered to something (the dock). You have to replace the iron on the dock ever so often to keep it heated. Sometimes I just set the iron upright like a normal iron to do a quick adjusting of a sleeve or something, and I have never lost heat, or had any issues with the iron going cold. I just like to mention it because it is different than a corded iron but once you find your groove you will love it! Bought one for my mom and grandma too. They are both still using theirs as well. This was a great purchase, made in 2010, and its still one of my favorite things.

I am extremely pleasantly surprised by the performance of this iron. I was not expecting this because other reviewers had mentioned issues but I am glad that I gave it a try. It works perfectly, reaches temperature very quickly, and maintains temperature as you iron even when you use the steam function. You normally set your iron down at some point when using it in order to adjust the garment you are ironing, move to the next section of the garment, etc. Contrary to what other reviewers said (maybe I was fortunate, and they received pieces that did not work as well), in my experience, this "set down" time is sufficient to "recharge" this iron so that it always seems to be ready when you are ready to iron the next section. It is also much easier to use than other irons I have used because it's cordless so there is no cord to tangle with, and is also quite light, and yet works perfectly! Finally, it comes with a cover that keeps it dust free. I hope that Panasonic can keep up the good work on this series and that those who purchase it are happy with it. Amazon was superb with their delivery as they almost always are. Amazon, you too please keep up the good work!

I have the original version of this iron from 16 years ago, and while it still works, it was starting to not hold its charge very well. I won't fault it, I've had MUCH more expensive irons (one in particular comes to mind - yellow and has automatic standy-uppy feet...) that don't last more than 2 or 3 years before they lose heat, electronics dont work or they are dumping water all over your ironing board 😩. So, given how much I love my old Panasonic cordless, I thought I'd give this newer version a try. For the record, I'm a quilter, wife and mom to two littles so I probably use my irons a little more than the average bear. Firstly, I love cordless. When you're a quilter and ironing huge pieces of fabric at a time, that cord can be a real nuisance. This iron can go anywhere. Heat up time is about average on this machine, certainly not as fast as my $$yellow iron$$ but does the job. The one thing I miss the most (compared to that yellow guy again) is the 30 minute shut off time. This Panasonic is much shorter (I'd have to look it up but it feels like about 10 mins). If you've never used a cordless, you need to return it to its base to recharge every so often; ever hear your regular iron click and the lights dim a little? This is it recharging. So same principal goes for the cordless, it's just you have to remember to set it on its base every few minutes. This iron comes with an upgrade in steam holes over its predecessor, which is awesome (the old version only had steam at the tip) The water tank on this puppy is big. Very comparable to the yellow guy which I believe holds 12oz. Heat-wise it's hot. It's not as hot as some Rowentas I've used, but it's comparable to the Oliso 1600 (in my opinion). Empty (no water) it's relatively lightweight (feels much lighter than other irons I've used) and even with the tank full it's still not overly heavy. I like that it comes with a snap on case for transport, but mostly I like the fact I can set the lid on it at the end of the day to keep the dust off. I think if you're used to having Rowenta irons (upper end ones at least) you might be disappointed in a loss of heat moving to this iron. However, as a quilter I do love this iron. Obviously, if this is my second one in 16 years and I am going back to Panasonic after courting the other more expensive brands for a few years. 😉

I've been using my Panasonic cordless iron for about 6 months now and am entirely pleased with the performance. The iron heats up fast and will keep a high heat for a few minutes until it requires a quick reheating in the base. The steam pressure is surprisingly strong although the water capacity is not large. If you have a lot of ironing you may refill the container more than once - but this is easy since it is removable and doesn't leak when replaced. The convenience of not having the cord in the way far outweighs any limitations this iron may have, such as the small water capacity or the fact that it cannot reheat itself while you are ironing. People have commented on the iron not keeping its heat long enough. I don't have a problem since I ALWAYS place the iron on the base when I am not actually ironing. This will keep it hot continuously. The technique is you iron until the steam starts to weaken, then set the iron on the base for 20 or 30 seconds while you are turning or adjusting the garment on the ironing board. So it's not necessary to waste time entirely in order to keep the iron hot. The smooth-gliding stainless steel sole place is a deluxe, durable feature and the iron (as most Panasonic products) is built to last. The plastic cover with carrying handle fits well and securely. Perhaps veteran ironers with years of experience, and who don't get the cords tangled may prefer an old fashioned steam iron. But if the cord always gets in your way and slows you down to the point of irritation, you won't regret spending the price for this iron.

I love this iron. I have never had a cordless iron before and it is so much easier to iron without the cord! The removable water reservoir is also great. Usually I had to go find a glass - typically something without a spout - so the water would spill as I tried to fill the iron. None of that is a problem here. The reservoir lifts out easily and tap water can be used to fill it. I don't understand the people who say it doesn't work because they iron a lot of things at once. It stays hot! It is not a rechargeable - it only gets electricity when it is placed on the holder. But that is no problem - You iron the first side - then you have to put the iron down somewhere - so why not put it on the holder? Then you rearrange the item to iron the next side - pick up the iron seconds later and it is hot and ready to go. I was amazed how fast it got hot out of the box - less than 2 minutes and it is ready to use. I ironed 4 pairs of heavy pants. Plenty hot enough - great control. I even put it down NOT on the holder to turn one pair of pants over. Then started ironing ~30 sec later - and it was just as hot - as could be determined by feeling the pants after ironing. The case is very handy for carrying the iron around. Also the bottom holder plate has an extra added benefit of having no worries about where to put the hot iron when you are finished ironing. The cord to the holder is retractable - which is nice for storage. Overall no cons - great iron.

I have done lots of research and read lot of reviews of all cordless iron from difference brands but decided to buy this because of the design. Love everything of it. If i have it in high heat it will finish one adult shirt without the need of recharge. Recommend it if you do not do a lots of ironing.

My wife who is a long time quilter and sewer had an old (antique) iron that had a small accident when if fell over and melted nearby plastic. Being a techie husband I did some research and found this item for her. After some consultation and the knowledge that Amazon takes returns we made the purchase. Delivery was prompt and ahead of schedule. Setup is a breeze. The only reservation was the heat storage capacity while ironing. After using the iron intensively for several weeks on quilting and sewing projects, you will not be able to pry this from her hand. She loves it to say the least. No steam iron wires to contend with. removable water reservoir, safe storage when hot but not in use, Smooth ironing action. Not heavy and has easy controls and indicator. The carrying case and cover is a nice touch. If you are a quilter/sewer give this steam iron a try. It gives you the freedom to move around and yet has enough ironing time that you will probably never see the heat indicator light flash to show it needs to be returned to the base. It is nice to see a traditional appliance design drastically improved with this updated cordless design. Highly recommended

The first time I learnt of the product dated back 19 years ago from my sister. She told me how much she liked the freedom of a cordless iron. She bought it in HK while it was not available in Canada. I had been waiting for 9 years to finally see the product launched here in Canada. I bought it right away and have been very satisfied with it. I have a lot of clothes to iron each week, the cordless iron just makes my life a lot easier. My in-law visited us recently and discovered the beauty of the device and fell in love with it, so we bought another for my sister-in-law last month. This is a newer version comparing to what I have, I have heard my sis-in-law has been carrying the unit around the house since it has a very smart cover with a handle. I guess this is a good sign that she likes it otherwise she wouldn't be this attached. We are very impressed how fast Amazon.ca delivered the iron. I ordered it on a Friday and my sister-in-law got it the following Monday morning at the door. Good job, Amazon! I have to admit that I have not used the steam feature. Not that it has anything bad, I just don't want to clean all the mineral build-ups from water and the unit could be lighter. It is lighter than a regular iron which is good to me since I have lots to do each time. Highly recommended.
