Roxio Game Capture (Old Version)

I was very excited when I found this item. I've been using the Adaptec Gamebridge which is a standard definition capture device that doesnt even support 16:9. It was a fine product when it was made but I was in need of an upgrade. The RGC does not disappoint, I paid a great price from the best retailer in the world (spoiler: Amazon). It comes with nice cables in the box, a USB cable, component video cable and an audio cable (red/white). The cables feel like they are nice quality and should be long enough for anyone within reason.Video quality:I'll start off by saying I'm not a video capture nut, I just need this product for capturing Rock band 3 so I can splice it in with video of me playing my drums. While the video isnt 720p or 1080p it is still very nice even when shown on a large screen. For those who wonder, it does record in widescreen. I do notice .avi is the best looking option for output, its a minor difference but I'd suggest using .avi. If you meet the system requirements you should have no video stuttering or audio lag. To test the video being synced perfectly I decided to watch my laptop's screen while drumming to a song, if you've played Rock band you know calibration is extremely important. I was able to play while watching the screen on my laptop and not miss notes, thats pretty impressive for a capture device in my opinion.Software features:I have to admit I didnt play with the editing too much since I use Pinnacle for most of my editing. I did notice you cannot have two video feeds running on the same screen. So if you wanted to do a split screen view of you getting a headshot while seeing the opponent drop dead, you cant. You also cannot view the gameplay in full screen on your PC. This may not be an issue for most since it has a video passthrough but it was a big issue for me. I have been using capture devices so I can take my 360 out of town with me without the need for a TV to play my games. This software WILL NOT allow any sort of full screen viewing. The good news for anyone looking to do this is you can get FREE software that will let you play using the RGC in full screen. Its called Amerctv if you're interested in using this device for those means.Overall:For the price, its a clear must buy for me. Its not perfect, but if you're using it for just game capturing and other small tasks this will likely not disappoint. I only wish they had put both the component input and output on the back so there isnt wires coming from both ends.Pros:Comes with all cables needed, minus your favorite game console's component cords.Free editing software thats decent.Price - its hard to find another device that has component inputs at this price pointEliminates the need for splitters.Video quality looks great even for 480p.Cons:No fullscreen option while in the software - Can be fixed with third party software.480p is the recording level even when 720p/1080i inputs are accepted.Software will seem limited to users who like to do some serious editing.

I purchased this product with the hope to produce 480p videos of me playing Rock Band 3 on my xbox 360. I received the product, opened it up, and I had it hooked up very quickly. I had a brief problem hooking it up through component input 1 on my HDTV, but it worked fine on component input 2 for whatever stupid reason. I used Roxio's very helpful wiring diagram on their website to ensure that everything was hooked up correctly.Once I had it hooked up, I installed the software on my computer, rebooted my computer, and I was ready to record. I launched the software, which was insanely simple to use, and I recorded my first Rock Band 3 video. I recorded a short 5-minute video, uploaded it to youtube, and I was watching my video in 480p in less than 15 minutes. Most of the time was spent uploading and waiting for youtube to process the video. It was amazingly slick, simple, and easy to use.Feel free to view this sample video to view the video quality: [...]It's worth noting that it does come with a component cable, which is very nice considering many retail stores would be happy to sell you one for $30! Bear in mind you will also need a system-specific component cable, which I bought at Gamespot for $15. They actually sell one cable that is compatible for PS3 and XBOX 360, which is pretty convenient!The software is decent, but it definitely has its limitations. For example, I don't think it's possible to superimpose one video clip on to another video clip. It's very popular to superimpose a cut-out of the note chart along with a video of you actually playing. I don't think that is possible with this software, though I'd be happy to be corrected on this. Most commonly used transitions and effects are available, and you can dub your own audio narration over the video, which is great.Conclusion: This is an excellent product and a great value. This is great for anyone that wants a simple solution for recording 480p video from their consoles, and then uploading it to sites like youtube. I look forward to an HD variant in the future!

The media could not be loaded.  The Roxio Game Cap is a capture card device for streaming and/or recording PS3 or XBOX360 gameplay..Priced at under $100, it is by far the best value out there for the money.. I have had mine for almost a year now and it works great!! You can stream to websites like blogTV.com, USTREAM, TWITCH & LiveStream.. All you do is hook up the Roxio to your PS3 via an AV COMPONENT CABLE, (not included, available for around $20).. Then you hook the Roxio up to your television with the included AV cable, and hook it up to your computer with the included USB cable.. Thats it!!Your computer then recognizes the Roxio as a webcam, and you can stream to sites, record to your hard drive or do BOTH AT THE SAME TIME..I use a free program from ADOBE called ADOBE FLASH LIVE MEDIA ENCODER.. You can download it free from Adobe.com.. This program allows you to broadcast in High Quality to the streaming sites, as well as record to your hard drive simultaneously. What this means is people can watch your games LIVE on the streaming site, and if you choose to save the video to your cpus hard drive, you can then upload the video to youtube.com later!!Its a great little device and a great value for the money...Attached is a little preview of saved video uploaded to youtube from the game ALIENS COLONIAL MARINES..Enjoy!!IMPORTANT: If you have a PS3, do NOT buy the new HD PRO version!! PS3 HDCP blocks HDMI signal to capture devices, so you CANNOT stream or record in HD from a PS3..If you have an XBOX360 and want the HD PRO version you better have a VERY FAST computer with great processing speed to stream/record in HD.. I recommend getting the STANDARD EDITION of the Roxio Game Cap.. At $60.98 it is a great deal!!

Good product. But do not buy if you want to record PS2 PS3 games because the recording quality is low 480p.

Ok but thought it would be better. All in all still fun. Needs better visual effects. Needs a little more variety.

This was the best capture card back in the day!

It was broken when we received it and it was not set up to connect to hdmi.
