Are these 100% mesquite? Or is the mesquite blended with another hardwood?

The Traeger Pellets are excellent, 100% hardwood, food grade pellets... And like nearly all quality food grade pellets are about 70% alder (or oak in the east) and 30% whatever flavor smoke wood it states on the package. The reasons for this are primarily consistent burn rate as well as production availability/expense. Lesser quality pellets run hot and cold rather than burning/smoking at predictable and therefore programmable rates.

Which of the Trager wood pellets leave the mildest flavor on beef being barbecued?

One simple way to modulate smoke is to avoid cooking long and slow. Higher temps produce less smoke, lower ones produce more. Traeger recipes sometimes recommend starting off your cook @ 180°F. Don't do this if you don't care for a stronger smoke flavor. Also, cooking that low for long periods produce "dirty" smoke which is not only a strong smoke flavor, it can be downright bitter regardless of the species you're using (you're cooking with clean smoke when there's no white smoke coming from the smoker - only a clear "mirage" looking emission). But as a rule, definitely stay away from hickory, mesquite and maybe oak. Some companies use barked wood. From what I understand Traeger doesn't - that will add smoky flavors too. There are raging debates out there about Traeger's recipe. They're very cagey with their descriptions. For instance, on cherry, nowhere on the bag or on their website does it say they use actual cherry wood. In fact I found this while researching your question (from Traeger's website): "All pellets are a blend of either Alder or Oak plus the wood flavor: - West Coast Mill: Alder + Other wood - East Coast Mill: Oak + Other wood" They don't say what the "...plus wood flavor" actually is. So caveat emptor.

Fellow grill enthusiasts, here’s what you’re looking for. I couldn’t decide on a specific flavor so I went for this blend. TOTALLY worth every penny. The smell they give off while burning is incredible and will leave your food tasting amazing. The pellets are a bit large, so you can expect a solid burn time. Surprisingly enough there isn’t a whole lot of ash left behind. Works great with steak, chicken baked potatoes and corn on the cob. Love the flavor

Traeger Grills Signature Blend Worth the Money!

The media could not be loaded. I highly recommend that you stop wasting your money buying offbrand grilling pellets. We thought it was our grill, highly disappointed, and then found out. It wasn’t our real after all our Grill was having feeding issues and not maintaining heat. Recommended that we go back to the original pellets that came with our grill we have and now we love our grill again. The food cooks great heat maintains throughout the grilling session and the feeder has not stopped a single time, perfect perfect perfect the performance is above beyond a highly recommend this product. It will make you happy!
