This mat is cool, figuratively and literally
I bought a sage green medium-sized one of these for my dog in May because he's of a winter breed and gets uncomfortable at any temp above 74*. It took him a while to get past the texture or something, but once he did he realized that it kept him cooler, and spends most of his time on it. I figured that if it helped this guy keep literally cool it'll help our friend's dog deal with the current dangerous heat wave we're having, so I bought a blue small-sized one for him. It took him even less time to adapt than my dog did, and not he spends most of his time on his pad. The gel works like magic. It's not magic, but it works like that. The gel absorbs heat from whatever touches it, then radiates that heat energy to the atmosphere when not in use. Basic physics, but clever application. It works well with bare human feet, too. My dog isn't huge, but is very heavy and has tiny feet (imagine a wild boar wearing a Rottweiler costume), and I was worried that his claws would damage the covering material, but nearly two months later his has no damage at all even though he pawed at it early on. Our friend's dog is only 25 pounds, but has daggers on his feet. So far no marks on his mat either. I considered getting an ice silk cooling pad, but chose gel because ice-silk material doesn't work as well on bodies with built-in insulation such as furry dogs, and it would have to be washed periodically. The fabric on these pads seems to fend off dirt well, and can be cleaned with a damp rag instead of a laundry machine. They are pretty expensive, but my dog is worth it.

Our "double-coat" dog has needed this for years, and now he has it!
I am naturally sceptical of advertiser & seller claims for products, but thought we'd give one of these a try for our 13-year old "Half-scale Otter Hound" mutt, who has the same double-thick, oily coat of Otter Hounds and many other water dogs. He's always panting, particularly at night, and wanting to go outside several times a night, even in deep winter cold, to cool off, which is a pain for us, as he needs help getting back up the steps and into the house, due to arthritus. Additionally, he needs a soft dog bed to rest his painful joints, but the bed makes him heat up quickly, so he's continually moving to the bed, to a cool, hard floor, struggling to get up, and panting all the time. We got this cooling mat about a month ago, and he avoided it for the first 2 days, then settled onto it sometimes, and seemed OK with it. Around the 4th day, I moved it to his dog bed, and WOW-- what a change! No panting at all, he seeks it out every time he lays down, and obviously prefers it. Even more, he sleeps so much better, so that in the mornings, despite his tired, old joints giving him a lot of pain, he even RUNS around the yard, and RUNS to meet my wife when he wants to come back in. He plays more with our other 2 smaller dogs, and overall seems a LOT more comfortable and happy. The Green Pet Cooling Mat in his dog bed is HIS Spot, now, and he's learned on his own to get off for about half an hour to let it "re-charge", and then gets back on. I just now bought a 2nd mat of the same brand-- We plan to either put it on the floor or in one of the other dogs' beds--- They used to rotate beds a few times during the night, although these days, nobody else gets "his" bed with the cooling mat. I have heard the other dogs "digging"/"scratching" the fabric the middle of their beds sometimes, just like he used to also do, and I think it's an instinctual canine reactionj to being "too hot", i.e., "digging down to cooler soil", so we'll see how this goes. If it goes well, we'll probably order a Small cooling mat for our smallest dog. The mats seem quite durable, aren't nearly as heavy as some make them out to be (my wife has severe spinal stenosis and bad arthritus, and she said to leave word in this review that she has no problem at all handling them. My only regret is that we didnt get some of these years ago. A very good product, and it seems well-made, to last a very long time! FOLLOW UP, about a week after I posted this item, above: We received the 2nd cooling mat, and right away put it in the "medium-size" dog bed, normally preferred by our 3-year old Corgie-Lab mix. She avoided it the first day, although our "big" dog that we bought the first cooling mat for, went for it right away, switching back and forth from each cooling mat-equipped bed, as needed. The 2nd night, our Corgie-Lab mix finally discovered what it was all about, and now, if not sleeping on one of our laps, prefers to sleeping on "her" mat atop "her" dog bed. So, now I have 2 dogs that love these cooling mats. Our "little" dog, a Jack Russell-Shi Tzu mix has a thin coat, and thus looses body heat easily, but I suspect as summer comes on (this is 13 May), we might buy a another mat sized for her, as well. Suffice to say that our dogs seem to really like this product, and I can heartily recommend it. P.S.: When the dogs go out to the back yard, to chase squirrels, bark at passing dogs, or do other "Dog Stuff"-- I've learned that picking up each mat and holding it up vertically so that both sides get air helps cool it off quicker, so that even if they're outside for just a few minutes, they return to a cold mat. The original mat we got for our "big" (actually only 85 lbs) dog is still large enough for him to sleep on half of it, then roll over to the "cold half" for more comfortable sleep. Although he has still panted for short periods, at night on it lately, mostly he just dozes off and snores for hours at a time-- a refreshing change from having him panting and moving around restlessly all night before we got the mats. Some reviews of Dog Cooling Mats suggest putting the mat into the refrigerator, but I think that would be far too much cooling in a short time-- these things are cold to the touch when you pick them up-- and the object is to slowly draw off the dog's body heat without over-cooling it, and they do that very well. We're quite satisfied.

So, so great! But we need a senior option!
I have two 11yr old corgis and they love a cold spot to rest. They absolutely love this mat and take turns on it. I love the sage color, it’s cold and durable and I can wipe it clean, I even have it slightly elevated on a double folded blanket for extra cushion and it still is so wonderfully cool! Easy to transport and put anywhere! I got the Large and it’s perfect size for my overstretching corgi dogs! So great! My only hangup is that my sweet blossoming seniors struggle with how slippery the mat is. I am going to install some sticker grips (just a few so slipping paws could grip) and I feel that will solve the problem for my pups. I will try and update if the grips work and still keep the mat in great condition. I’d love to see this on a future senior project of theirs! I bet many of us would, too!

Life saver!
Life saving cooling pad for my Mom's 14 year old outside cat. She is in a large catio due to her age versus coyotes. The temperature has been averaging 80 to 100°.If you follow the instructions they will stay cool for 3 hrs. plus as if she gets off it , it resets in 15 to 20 minutes just like they say. I bought a second one for the hot days. I usually change them out once a day when hot. And she sees the blue pad coming and gets right on it. One pad will not stay cool all day but Im retired and it works for me. Best thing no electric chord or freezing involved. Been using them for about a month and holding up well! Love them!

It works!
I was skeptical but this worked super well last week when temps were in the high 90s! At that heat, it didn’t last the full 3 hours BUT it allowed our dog to hang out with us for a little bits at a time! I forgot it in the freezer and accidentally left it in there for about an hour BUT when I brought it back outside, it was SUPER cold for a long time. It was a bit too cold for my dog but it cooled my feet. A few days before our trip, I placed the mat around the house close to spaces where he already hangs out. It helped him recognize the “cool” spot when I brought it out during the hot days.

Sizing is wildly off. It's twice the size it claims in the item description.
Well, I want to love it, but I can't use it. I bought this for the top of my cat's cat tree, but it is a bit too big to fit inside the bolstered area on top of the cat tree. I was hoping I could tuck it in under the bolsters, but it's too slippery and stiff to stay in place. So, I can't tell you how it performs, because I can't use it where I need it. A point of contention here.... The sage green x-small allegedly measures 7.87"L x 5.91"W x 3.94"Th. So, I cleverly thought the x-small in the blue would be the same size. Not so. It is 12" x 15", and hence, doesn't fit in the area I had intended. The size discrepancy didn't dawn on me until after I tossed the box, so I thought I couldn't return it. Alexa tells me otherwise, so I may actually return it. The quality of the pad seems fine. It tends to fold back up at the creases where it was originally folded in the box. As a result, it doesn't quite lie flat, making it even more prone to sliding around. Lastly, I honestly think this is a bit overpriced for what it is. Maybe $15. Especially for the allegedly x-small size. There's nothing exciting about this. It's a gel pad. I want to love it. I just don't. Between the price and the wildly incorrect size, meh. If you do buy it, take a close look at the size that you actually received. I just thought I had read the size wrong. Turns out the sizing is fictional. It's an okay purchase if your pet doesn't mind it being slippery and not lying completely flat, and overpaying for it. You might take a pass on this one.

Nice way to cool your kitties (or doggies)
I like that this cools off the kitties without the need for water or electricity. They lay on it and it takes the heat from their body and cools them off. Then they move or leave, it only takes a few minutes for it to release the heat and become cool again. I did buy the large size so that more than one kitty can use it at a time. The large size is perfect for two kitties to share it. It is kind of soft but not real soft like a kitty likes. It has more of a soft vinyl feel. It is nice and thick, and very heavy. I do not have a chewing kitty so I am not sure if it is chew proof or not. The kitty nails are not scratching it or leaving marks.

Helpful product but questionable quality control
We've got a Bernese Mountain Dog and the midwest summers have been getting increasingly hotter. Not wanting our boy to overheat, I looked into these cooling mats. I was waiting to see if the Green Cool Pad would go on discount for Prime day, but after not seeing any change in price I decided to order one from an Amazon Marketplace seller. $25 bucks off for something described as new in box is a good deal. I ordered and waited a week for it to be delivered. The box looked brand new and as far as I could tell it hadn't been opened. I unfolded the mat and was stunned to see a brown smear that certainly looked like something gross. It wasn't anything that I couldn't quickly wipe off, but still... who would ship out a product like this? I contacted the seller. They said that it was fulfilled by Amazon so I should contact them. I contacted Amazon, and after getting a runaround trying to reach a real CSR and not AI dispensing canned answers, I was able to get a partial credit for my trouble. Poo smear aside, the mat does seem to help in this summer heat. At the very least our dog has taken to lying on it pretty regularly. I'm not sure who is at fault for the condition it arrived in (Amazon/the seller/the manufacturer), but seriously do better. Nobody wants to order something and get it with a poo stain out of the box.
