Whats the difference between with and without overflow? Whats the overflow for and how do I tell if I need it?

I disagree with Debi. If you have an overflow hole near the top of the sink bowl, then you DO need a stopper with overflow. Having the overflow hole in the stopper will enable your overflow to function and excess water go down the drain.

Is this a push closed, push open drain plug?

Yes, and seem to work well. I have installed one in each bathroom; some of these drains are 1 1/2” so getting it to seal properly could be a challenge. We normally us 1 1/4” in US.

This product is compatible with sinks with overflow holes. If your sink has an overflow hole then you will want a drain that matches.
