Simply the best!
One of the finest sketchbooks in my collection. It handles both wet and dry media with ease, and the quality of the paper is impressive—it stands up to heavy use without a problem. Durable, versatile, and perfect for any artist looking for reliability.

Perfect
I have an art degree but now own two companies. In spite of that, I have realized that exercising the right side of my brain daily is imperative for business creativity and focus and also relaxation of stress. This is perfect for it because I can use any medium well and it's a great size for just getting some ideas going without being intimidating on having to fill a large page. I typically combine two pages together for something complimentary or even an entire scene if I really get going. It takes gesso well for painting or you can apply acrylic right to it. I draw with markers and oil pastels and pencils and more straight onto the pages.Holds up well

Quality satchel-sized very cute sketchbook
Moleskine Hard Red for Art would be a decent sketchbook for those who want something that could easily fit into a satchel and has surface that is smoother and more rigid than stereotypical sketchbook paper. It is also pretty cute. If you are looking for something larger than pocket-sized but not as large as a letter-sized notebook, and willing to pay some extra bucks for quality, try this one. Some notes:1. Paper thickness: Somewhere in between that of stereotypical sketchbook and Bristol board.\2. Paper texture: Pretty smooth.3. Color of the surface: Although not well shown in photos, it is actually faint green tea. If you want a surface that is white, then this may not be it.4. Using fountain pen: The photo that I have uploaded contains two pages using fountain pen. Because of the paper's thickness, doodles and writings from the previous page does not bleed through. Also, because the surface is pretty smooth, it provides an excellent surface for fountain pen.5. Other instruments/media I plan on testing in the future: Dipping pen and brushes with India ink, colored markers and pencils, watercolor and acrylic paints.******Update: 04/18/20121. The faint green tea color of the sketchbook surface ... watch out: Be very careful with eraser. Rubbing the surface will fade out the color and reveal a white surface. So, if you expect to use eraser on a regular basis, look for a different sketchbook.2. Applying acrylic ink and painting: The sketchbook page being worked on will warp, if acrylic ink and painting are used liberally. (Extrapolation based on my experience with acrylics: The same problem will be encountered by applying watercolor.) This is not a big deal, if you are using this sketchbook to experiment and to play around. However, if you want to do polished works using acrylics, look for something heavier.

Beautifully made, as are all Moleskine--but this RED is a tiny bit ORANGE
Acid free, heavy-enough paper. Robust binding. Perfection like any other Moleskine. So why not 5 stars???==>> I was hoping for a more pure, saturated red color. But alas, this is no lipstick or Ferrari red. The red in the photographs looks better.Having almost-red ones still make it easy to pick certain special books out of my shelf of black ones. They also make good Valentines, if you don't mind your red Valentine being a little off chromatically. That's why I bought these and others this February, and why I noticed the color. If this were the black version, it would receive 5 stars. I knocked off one star so prospects would know to expect slightly less than color perfection for a Valentine. I would have only removed 1/2 of a star, if it were possible.

Great paper quality
The media could not be loaded. All i dont like is their mission statement taking up space. Been trying to find something better but keep coming back to this. This size will fit in your cargo pockets. At least they fit in mine. Very portable. On Amazon, they’re actually pretty good value for the money. They hold up great. A wise man takes notes. Its got a pocket in the back. 5 star.

If You Haven't Gone Completely Digital and Still Like Pen and Paper...this is for you
OK once you get over the sticker shock, it's uphill from there. Yes, $17 for a bundle of paper with a hard cover. Most NY Times best sellers (hard bound bundles of paper with words on them) cost less. That's just me being real. There are so many people who can't spend $17 on a wordless notebook, I have to state the obvious. And Moleskines are not alone in the price target, so it's nothing against them, I'm just stating the factsOnce you get beyond the price, Moleskines will prove themselves to you as some of the best made and useful notebooks around. And they are made for "you", not you having to remake your approach for them. Do you draw, they have one with blank pages. Do you write, they have them with ruled pages, do you like flip pads, they flip, do you like pocket sizes, they have those, and if you like them bigger or even bigger, they have those two. If you like orange, purple, or lavender color wise, I haven't seen those, but then again...you might just want to ask.OK, this is a lot for just a wordless hard bound (and yes, they come in soft bound as well) notebook, but I love the old fashion mechanical pencils and paper to go along with my multitude of digital gadgets. That's just how I roll and Moleskins help make that possible. And if you don't do pen, pencil and paper and are totally digital, then they even have Moleskine covers for iPhones and other devices.Happy writing!
