Whitesnake - Greatest Hits - CD

5 stars 'cos it's great AOR but beware it's just Whitesnake's Greatest Hits, no more, no less ...
Now I normally eschew compilation albums [and live albums but that rule too is about to be broken] in favour of studio albums, but with a dozen or more Whitesnake albums spread across forty years it was difficult to know where to start, or in truth go next as I already own the eponymous album aka "1987". So I decided to break my own rules and on this occasion [!] buy a compilation. But there's an array of Whitesnake compilations so it's difficult to know which one to pick if you're looking for a broad immersive Whitesnake experience. But after much searching, comparing and review reading I passed on "The Best of Whitesnake" (it has sound quality issues according to other reviewers); all sorts of collections including "The Whitesnake Collection", "The Silver Anniversary Collection", "The Definitive Collection"; and on the "The Early Years" and the "Gold" albums settling instead for "Whitesnake's Greatest Hits" in the hope that the title said it all.And the title does say it. Because this isn't a best of Whitesnake, it's Whitesnake's greatest hits and these all came from their US radio-friendly purple patch [not to be confused with their 2015 Deep Purple patch]. Now don't get me wrong, this is a good selection of great AOR songs and it really hits the spot if this is the spot you want to hit but because I own the eponymous "1987" album "Whitesnake's Greatest Hits" wasn't really what I wanted because there's a lot of duplication with six of the songs here featuring on the European version of the "1987" album albeit not all always in the same format. And of the remainder, three are drawn from 1984's "Slide It In" and four from 1989's "Slip of The Tongue" the albums either side of "1987" in the Whitesnake chronology [the remaining song was one of those "new" songs that bands so often use to promote their Best of/GH albums that isn't really a new song].So lesson learned, don't break the rules and don't over think and on reflection I'd have been better off buying "Slide It In" and "Slip of The Tongue" to accompany my copy of "1987" and then perhaps the new "Rock" album.

Classic compilation
Some odd version choices makes it a 4 out of 5, instead of 5. But it's still some of Whitesnakes greatest songs. I love it. :)

Driving to Rock Music.
Very surprised im an old Heavy metal fan;but some of these songs will be around if to-days young get to hear them cos there songs that stick. Here i go again the special one but the cd well worth the money.I now like more Modern Country but still like to hear good heavy music too.Movie mars a very good seller. My taste in Music Varies Super Tramp another Favorite but i rate this an excellent buy 100%satifaction greatband great sound plus its songs you could sing at Kareoke yep you may sound a Fool but hey its fun.Certainly better than some of to-days Rap;Hip hop;which really doesnt require a lot of talent as the music is made for the Artist/s who only really speak and not sing.Yep i sound like an Old Fart but i still like folk who can play instruments Whitesnake can if youre a woman and youre Hubby liked Rock Im sure he would like it at xmas or birthday; Then he can listern while you shop avoid the arguments common cause most of us men hate the Asda/Tesco etc Run anyway.

David Coverdale (vocals) is the only constant-member. Guitars by John Sykes, and Steve Vai. Drums by Cozy Powell, Aynsley Dunbar, and Tommy Aldridge. Keyboards by Jon Lord, and Don Airey. The videos featured Tawny Kitaen. This is a great compilation featuring: Still of the Night, Here I Go Again, Is This Love, Love Ain't No Stranger, Looking for Love, Now You're Gone, Slide it In, Slow an' Easy, Judgement Day, You're Gonna Break My Heart Again, The Deeper the Love, Crying in the Rain, Fool for Your Loving, and, Sweet Lady Luck. Features an informative booklet. This is my favourite Whitesnake compilation. This is one of the greatest melodic-rock albums of all-time! Award 5 Stars!
