Great for Sensitive Dogs (Worth the Splurge—Even if You Mix) 🐾
We’re big fans of this food for our dog. It’s not our primary food only because it’s a bit on the pricey side, so we mix it with another brand — and that combo has worked beautifully for us. Our dog is sensitive to grains and does really well with this food. No tummy issues, good energy, and happy mealtimes, which is always the goal. If you’re dealing with a grain-sensitive pup and don’t mind spending a little more for quality (or using it as a mixer like we do), this is a solid option and one we’ll continue to buy.

Awesome food
My dog, who has a very VERY sensitive stomach, loves this food. We call it "dog crack." She doesn't seem to have any digestive issues with this kibble and eats her whole bowl within minutes. She also eats this as a non-meal treat. She's happy, so I'm happy. Never thought I'd leave a review about dog food, but I'm hard to impress regarding ANY product. I even have gotten past the "ew" factor and wonder if I would like to try insect protein for myself. Maybe. But not yet!

For the third time it worked- My sad little girl wolfed it down plain even my senior hooray !
Update 11/15/2025 I first wanted to state for people who are uncertain about the protein source that I would never endanger my fur babies and as I mention (later in my novel of a review) the NIH has studied the benefits of BSFL and found it to be an incredibly bioavailable form of protein in addition to numerous other benefits to the gut biome. Additionally, Jiminy’s bakes the food in small batches so pet parents do not risk the Carcinogenic byproducts that dogs may be exposed to by eating food prepared by high-heat extrusion include acrylamide, heterocyclic amines (HCAs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and Advanced Glycation End-products (AGEs). We lost our Archimedes not long after posting this last review- he was around 15 (he was adopted so we don’t know his exact age) 15+ is good but no matter how long - it is never enough. Luna has been extremely distraught and hadn’t been eating much. I didn’t order this food when I should have as I was unexpectedly hospitalized and with all of this we were really concerned with Luna’s history of starvation at the seized puppy mill, and being taken from her mother and litter mates so young that her eating might become a problem. Well, the order came and we poured her a bowl of kibble which at first she didn’t touch. A couple of hours later we went to the Dr’s office and when we came back- the bowl was licked clean and she was acting super cuddly and loving. She is still mourning but her gut seems to be back on track from where it was in the first weeks after losing Archimedes. I am quite certain it is not a coincidence that every time she gets this food we see noticeable improvement in her digestive tract (which was the most damaged by her past). her coat and skin look great and once I read it was good for the good bacteria in the mouth I started to pay attention and there is a noticeable difference. It doesn’t replace tooth brushing but as that is still a traumatic experience for her on the days she is extra anxious I feel slightly less guilty if we don’t do it. We will definitely not mess with what works and hope more people catch on. Update 09/10/2025 Hooray! I was happy that the Jiminy’s Good Grub came quickly and even more thrilled when I poured just some of the plain kibble in each of my pup’s bowls and they made a big dent in it! Considering their Daddy usually adds cooked (healthy) human food to their food for them to dig in without even waiting (and following him around wistfully silently projecting “If you REALLY loved me you would cook something for yourself and then give us 90% of it…that’s what Daddy’s do that love their furry babies right?” I wish this had been available when my Cubby with horrific allergies was still on this side of the bridge but I am so grateful for the bioavailability of the BSFL and the extensive studies and literature available on how healthy it would s. My senior has been moving around more than ever - noticeably so and I still add supplements for joints, a dog superfood mix , turmeric etc. but I hope that More people give this a try as it helps a not only high quality food with high bioavailability (dogs are able to easily use the ingredients) but the algal oil in lieu of fish oil is going to the source of the DHA / EPA (fish get it from the algae they eat) but I don’t have to worry about the contaminants in the ocean as algae is grown under controlled conditions. It is also a good feeling to be feeding a more humane and far less earth stressing product that is top quality. I love my babies so much and would never keep them on something that didn’t do great is things for their body. The NIH published about the benefits of BSFL and the information is readily available on the internet. Anyways my babies like it and are thriving on it and it is really helping Luna’s gut as she was starved the first five months of her life getting her gut biome healthy is an ongoing process but this is definitely moving things in the right direction and I appreciate the availability of a ten pound bag rather than just a four lb and 22 lb. It actually lasts a good while (as we mix it and the bag is resealable. Until next time thank you Jiminy! Well, I will have to write a review on any changes no5ed in my dogs but I did do a great deal of research on the primary form of protein BSFL and there is actually a great deal out there about it. Its bioavailability to dogs is excellent (meaning they are able to make use of a huge percentage of it and it doesn’t become waste and the DHA/EPA is from algae oil (which is where the fish get it from) which doesn’t stress out ocean’s as it can be grown in sterile conditions where every input is monitored and it is certainly much cleaner as there is no risk of pollution. The biggest shock for me is that both of my rescued collies (and have issues eating in front of people) but they wolfed it down!!! Particularly the senior, Archimedes which just makes my day. I am enclosing a picture of Archimedes and Luna , Archimedes (my senior is the sable collie laying on Luna). Archimedes spent the first year of his life in a highly abusive situation before they dumped him at an abandoned gas station (not knowing the breeder microchipped him) and they made up some story how “he had hopped a nine foot fence so many times they didn’t wanna deal deal” (he was 38 lbs at over a year at that was after a month of vet visit and top treatment at the foster home). Luna had an even harder start at a puppy mill / hoarding situation with over 200 Rough Collies and least ten Corgis and Great Pyrenees they were in a pen with no food, water, shelter or way to get out and the authorities said it was the worst they had ever seen, I was a volunteer with the rescue we got Archimedes at and got a call if we could take a foster to adopt and we said ok we could come up this weekend and they said well we’re coming that way anyways and there cane then a terrified little white furball with a tri-color face. She spent the first week just looking at the ceiling and walls and couches and windows - I realized she’d never seen that before. Sorry for the diatribe but I am elated that I can give then something that is fantastic for them, the earth and a bit kinder to animals as well. Thank you for the tune and effort put into this food. Archimedes and Luna thank you too!

Great dog food!!
My dogs like the taste and eat it readily. One of them eats this alternative protein kibble due to stomach sensitivity, the other for skin/coat. I'm very happy with the results - both are show dogs on their way to grand champion titles so nutrition is super important. Thanks for carrying this wonderful product!! Trixie and Aislinn thank you, too. :-)

Smells Great!
smells great and my dog loves it...I'm hoping it will help with her allergies..will update later..Wish it was not so expensive; very costly for a large dog.

Soldier Fly Larvae
I was under the impression that Jiminy's Good Grub Insect Protein Oven-Baked Dog Food was made from crickets. No. According to the bag, it's made from Soldier Fly Larvae. Soldier flies, crickets - it's six of one and half a dozen of the other. The general idea is good and I want to support it. It's expensive. I hope the price comes down once it becomes more widely accepted. My smaller dog is the picky eater around my house. He doesn't hate the Jiminy's dog food but he doesn't love it either. If there's anything else to munch on, he'll eat that before the Jiminy's. The big dogs, on the other hand, will eat anything and everything so they aren't a good test of the Jiminy's. I hope this idea and the company are both successful.

Sick dog
My dog is very fussy and also has diarrhea when I change food so I'm very careful. This seemed like a good alternative. When the bag arrived I took a few pieces of the dry food and he sniffed it, put it in his mouth then spit it out. I should have stopped there. Instead I mixed 1/8 of a cup in his dry food he normally eats. He slurped it down. I was happy. An hour later I wasn't. He was throwing the food up he had just eaten. That's was a first. I expected diarrhea but not that. He must have known there was something he didn't like in it. My dog is a Burmese. Maybe a fluke but just be aware. That's why I'm throwing it out. My other dog a border healer wouldn't even touch her food with it mixed in, she ate a few pieces from the bag but refused to eat her food with it mixed in. I was hoping to rate this product well as they both have problems, one stomach the other allergies. It's back to square one to finding a better product. Please be careful with this product, for me it was a waste of money.

My dog is allergic to alllll food. This one she not only doesn’t seem to react to, but loves. Plus (and this is tmi), her poop is the firmest it’s been in a good year. 10/10
