Why wouldn't this work on an outswinging door?

If it is placed in the interior, you will be able to open the door and go out. If it is placed on the outside of the house, people would be locked inside as it could only be opened from the outside. If you are putting this on a shed or a cupboard, for example, then locking it from the outside would be fine.

Can this be used on double entry doors?

It is designed for a single door installation and is not advised for your use. The base plate have longer screws that could be too long for the inactive door it is mounted to.

Will this latch affect pre-installed alarm sensors? We wouldn’t want the alarm to accidentally be triggered by it!

The alarm system sensor is usually installed at the top of a door that is ~6’6” and the latch can be installed beloe the 5’ mark to allow unhindered visibility. That leaves more than 18” of clearance to ensure that the sensor is not affected. If I’m not mistaken, the sensor on the jam senses a magnet on the door. If steel affected these sensors then they could never be installed on steel doors. This latch has no magnetic components, so the likelihood of interference is abysmally low.

Will this latch a door completely closed? I want to latch pull-down cabinets built into a ceiling (sort of like overhead bins on a plane).

It is designed to slide open so it will not keep the door completely closed.
