Flavoursome, great crunchy texture, yet virtually no sugar (unlike the milk!) Amazing!
INTRODUCTION: As a diabetic, these sounded exciting. Most breakfast cereals are very high in sugar and the only regular cereals that are low are two wheat based products that are quite bland. Could these reintroduce a tasty breakfast and snack cereal to my world? I ordered these with genuine excitement.FIRST IMPRESSIONS: The boxes look great and 'up market'. While the four flavours are all delicious, cereals remind me of childhood and so I woukd have liked each to be different shaped or otherwise made to look different beyond the coating. As it is all are coating on small cereal toroids which I assume are identical. No matter for they are perfectly shaped for purchase.FLAVOUR: I am astonished how Surreal has achieved flavours equal or superior to alternatives that would be loaded with sugar. Were I served a bowl without knowing it was Surreal Low/Zero sugar, I would not have known.ACTUAL SUGAR CONTENT: True the box has a big "0g sugar label" on its front, but as the side clearly states "Low sugar" and as the specifics in the contents is even headed in big letters "The small print", I believe "zero" matches food standards.A 48g serving depending on which flavour one has chosen is clearly stated in a panel boldly and clearly titled "The small print" the dugar contentvwill be beteen 0.5 and 0.7 of a gram. To put that in perspective, a single teaspoon of sugar at 4g is 600% more! The boxes typically state this is naturally present and not added.SWEETENERS: The sweeteners are Stevia and Erythritol. Stevia is a zero calories natural product 2-400x sweeter than sugar, so only a tiny amount is needed. Erythritol is a sugar alcohol that contains almost no calories and does not affect sugar levels, but can have a laxative effect. Recent studies have raised some health concerns that links it to increased cardio vascular risks, so I wish this was not present.A REAL WORLD TEST: I am type 2 diabetic. Any of the usual flavoursome cereals I would have once eaten would today send my glucose levels through the roof.Breakfast cereals are high GI, so in this test, any glucose reaction that does occur will be fairly quick.I allowed my sugar levels to get quite low so that should I experience a large glucose spike I have some room before the level goes overly high. The monitor shows that yes there wasca spike but levels with my medicatiin stayed in the green. A great result.I had expected a rise as the carbs get converted to glucose and these have 12-17g per 48g serving. The rise was fast and had I started from a higher glucose level would have gone above my desired range, so it is important I check levels before eating. However this is to actually miss the fact that HALF A CUP OF MILK CONTAINS SIX GRAMS OF SUGAR! Milk is low GI but in that 48g bowl there is 1000% more sugar in the milk than in the Surreal! So from now on, I shall use less milk. Here's a thought - half a cup of unsweetened soya milk contains only half a gram of sugar and unsweetened almond milk contains zero to half a gram. Definitely worth a try.I shall try a bowl with no milk at all to see if I can make a direct comparison.HOW MUCH SURREAL IS 48g: Truthfully quite a lot. Certainly more than I m, being conscious of cereal/milk glucose impacts would typically serve myself as a portion.CONCLUSION: Now I know how much sugar is in milk, I believe by moderating portions, Surreal has restored my ability to enjoy breakfast cereals that do not have to be bland. I think I shall even be able to add some berries. I wish there was no Erythritol and given its sweetening effect is so much less than, the already used, stevia's, I don't really understand why it is.I hope following the recent studies Surreal will review its inclusion.I don't consider this a particularly cheap purchase (which will encourage me to limit portion size!), but I do regard it as very good value for money.UPDATE: Ive since repeated the above test with plain water instead of milk. To my surprise the result was pretty much identical, so the milk was not the cause. I can only think its tge carbs in a high GI cereal bejng converted rapidly and significantly. Strange

Changed recipe. Completely different product. Very disappointing
I have bought Surreal before and it used to be genuinely excellent. Great taste, good texture, easy way to add protein. Easily a 9 or 10 out of 10.This version is a completely different product. The taste is poor, the texture is wrong, and it is honestly unpleasant to eat. I would rate it 3 out of 10 at best.I noticed other reviews mentioning a recipe change and a drop in quality, which is why I only ordered the minimum four box pack. I am glad I did, because I will not be eating them. There is no clear notice of a new recipe on the box or the Amazon listing, yet the difference is huge. Changing a product this much without being transparent is frustrating, especially when you can only buy multiple boxes at once. Very poor again when you take into consideration the high cost of this product.I would not have bought this if I knew how different it was. Very disappointing.

Surreal frosted cereal
My sugars level were good on this but I’m not sure I would buy again as too sweet for me supposed to be low sugar so not sure why it’s so sweet shame really

Love this
I have always loved cereal, but had to give it up because it was low in protein. Great texture and taste , boxes are small, and it is expensive, but worth it as a treat
