ClosetMaid Organizer
I have to mention the Closet Maid Organizer is designed for closets 5-to-8 feet, the closet I was installing it in is less than 5 feet, so it took longer to install it. Instead of a couple of hours, it took me about five or six hours, which is no fault of the product, and I new it would probably take me longer because of the extra measuring and fitting and cutting. Other than that the organizer is an excellent product, it increased the capacity of the closet by about four times the usable space it had before. And despite the fact it took longer to install it was still very easy. Over all the Closet Maid Organizer is a great bargain, I plan to purchase another one for my son's room. Thank You Closet Maid and Amazon for providing the best value around!

Poles only have a few height choices
I purchased 2 of these one for a 5 ft closet and one for a 6ft closet. It was easy to install, but one of the boxes had a hole and was missing a pole. Lucky our local home Depot sells extra parts. It fit really well in our 6 ft closet but I had to go to home Depot and get diffent poles with more height choices for the 5 ft closet. It fit well in the 5ft wide closet but if you use the poles that come with the set you don't have enought room to hang adult size clothes. It is perfect for child clothing though. Overall very durable and fairly easy to install, just make sure you use a level!

Easier than other reviewers said it'd be
I made the mistake of ordering this as a "Used-Like New" item. After I spent an hour pulling everything out of my closet, I opened the box to lay everything out and begin installing it. That's when I discovered that despite the "Inspected by Amazon" sticker, there were several things missing from the kit, including one of the 3 main shelves, a bunch of mounting brackets, and the instructions. I. Was. Pissed!! So I immediately printed a return label. But I still needed to do something about my closet, and fast. So I re-ordered it but as a brand new kit. When it arrived, I opened the box to take inventory, happy to see everything was there. Then, I set about reading the instructions a couple times, making sure I knew what I needed to do, had the tools I needed to do it, and that I could do it all by myself. My dad was a phone call away, but I wanted to do it on my own. And it came out exactly as I hoped. So I'm not sure why other reviewers complained that it was difficult, even impossible, to install. I even had to change the height spacing of one shelf to have enough room to hang long blouses. All I had to do was re-measure the bracket spacings on the wall and drill a small hole in one of the poles. No biggie. Now my closet is gorgeous! (Yes, I did paint the back wall a bright turquoise and stenciled in a small cluster of silver stars. Because I could.) My dad stopped by the next day, and took a look. He was impressed by how sturdy, level, and roomy it all turned out. In fact he said, "Don't let your mom see this, or I'm going to have to put one up in her closet next." So, if you need to overhaul your closet, I would suggest buying a new kit - NOT USED! - and make sure everything that's supposed to be in the box, is. If you can, take your closet doors off. Read and re-read the instructions, gather the necessary tools, and take your time. It's not rocket science. Oh, and yes, you can modify/customize this to have the double shelves on either the left or right side of your closet. Or even buy 2 kits and really go crazy. I added another shelf that I purchased separately, and still only used one of the poles, instead of two. It's just as sturdy and suits my needs better.

Warning NOT FOR DRYWALL!!!!!
Since this day is bust I decided I should write this review and warn those thinking of buying this. First, the instructions included with this kit are wrong on page 1. The wall clips and anchors included with this kit are not for drywall, they are for concrete. The cover page shows a concrete anchor (13) clip (6) and a nail (12) while the note below the illustration says "Hardware included for installation into drywall or plaster 1/2" to 5/8" thick. ...) The instructions are so poorly written that they support my assertion on page 4 where they describe the wall clip (a) as the proper wall clip and anchor and item (c) on page 4 shows the illustrated anchor and clip in profile on the cover page. I was a carpenter for many years, and in retirement I am Mr. Fixit around the house, so trust me when I tell you do not install these anchors. They are expanding anchors the nails provided are like little wedges that expand the anchor so they keep a grip on the concrete. If you install these in sheet rock they will not hold for long and will seriously compromise the structural integrity of the drywall. Unfortunately I took a quick inventory not thoroughly examining the contents of the kit till after cutting everything to size and laying out and drilling holes. So I had to cut the stems off the wall clips and buy some drywall anchors to fasten them appropriately for an additional $20. So loss of time, and money, but there wasn't much I could do as this kit and more than likely all the others have been packed incorrectly. It is a shame because I have already installed a ClosetMaid system on the other side of the closet that uses the trackit system and not only did it come with drywall anchors, it came with concrete anchors as well as wood screws for the occasional wall stud or top plate. I had plenty of fasteners left over to do the end caps and the wall clips but only the end caps were machined properly for the drywall anchors, so I had to buy my own.

For the price - it works and was not too tough to install
If you have ever built anything in the past and understand how to use a tape measure and basic math this closet organizer should not be that difficult to install. YOU DO NEED A DRILL & a HAMMER! The instructions are very clear and provide you every necessary step to install properly the first time. I installed 2 of these - the first unit took about 1 hour or slightly a little more- partially because I was carefully laying out & counting the parts while contemplating which way I wanted to build the unit (with the longer pants/dress rack on the left vs. the right). Assembling the second unit was quick and easy - took about 33-40 min total - from opening box to snapping last shelf in place. The snapping of the shelves was a little tough (took a little muscle) but overall I am happy with my purchase and feel the finished product turned out great.

great for the money better than it looks
I have very small room and can't fit a dresser in there so i started looking around to see what else i could do with the space. my closet is too small for this set up but i did have a empty wall. the track system was to expensive so i was hunting around on amazon which really has everything you could think of (type in canned haggis to see what i mean) and i found this kit. i had it up in two hours mostly prep, measuring and drilling etc. I set it up different than the picture and i drilled holes in the support poles to put the shelves where i wanted them. also i didn't use the little spikes they give you to secure the brackets to the walls. piece of advice if you want to customize it to a height of your choice have your brackets and shelves ( with the clips attached) up, push the poles into the floor and mark them with a sharpie make sure it's level then drill the holes and put the support poles on, it will make it more secure. keep in mind if you want to put heavier stuff then clothes on this you may want to buy support braces. they're not that much and then you won't worry about then shelves collapsing. i'm a woman and fairly tool savy, the amount of time it took and the result was easy and worth it.

Not bad for the money - revised, broke after 5 years
UPDATE 2018: purchased in 2013, it broke in 2018, revised from 4 stars to 2. In hindsight, I am not surprised. The shelves are supported by small plastic clips - one of those broke. Some might say 5 years use is not bad, but keep in mind that now I have to remove all the contents, take this unit down, repair all the holes, repaint the walls, pay for a new unit, and install a new unit (which, trust me, won't be ClosetMaid). In my opinion, don't buy this unit, don't buy ClosetMaid. For the money, not a bad option. Nice mixture of hanging space and shelf space. Much more solid and sturdy than I anticipated (of course, if you install it wrong, the unit won't be this sturdy so installation is important). Top shelf is quite high and most people won't be able to put anything up there without a small step ladder. You will need a power drill and a level and you need to know how to use them. Don't be under the impression you can install this unit without those tools. Measurements need to be precise so if that's not your strength, make sure someone with that strength is available to help you with that. Instructions are confusing. I had to keep reading them over again and again and I usually don't have that much trouble. So if following instructions and deciphering diagrams is not your strength, make sure someone with that strength is there to help you. I installed this unit by myself and it worked out fine, but two people would be better and would have saved me some time (probably a lot of time). You work a lot with the level and marking lines and this is best with two people. If you have anything besides an 8' closet, you will need to cut the shelves with a hack saw (so you need to have a hack saw, and the "know how" and muscle to use it). Note, you can leave the shelves long, but you'll lose some hanging space. If you do decide to cut the shelves, make sure you don't cut them too short - they must reach past the center pole so the pole can reenforce them. If you have anything besides an 8' closet, note you will get markedly less hanging space. This should go without saying, of course, but even though I knew my closet was 5' and the picture was 8', I was still surprised and disappointed at the amount of hanging space I ended up with. I can't really blame the manufacturing for that, but perhaps they could show pictures of 5', 6' and 7' foot closets too. You don't get any option as to height of shelves and the hardware is for drywall. If you happen to hit a stud, you'll have to find a way to deal with that. If I had spent more on this unit, I'd probably be disappointed but I think for the money, it's not a bad option. If you need a closet organizer and don't want to spend a lot and you're OK with everything I've written above, go for it! UPDATE 2018: purchased in 2013, it broke in 2018, revised from 4 stars to 2. In hindsight, I am not surprised. The shelves are supported by small plastic clips - one of those broke.
