Slinky Malinki, Open the Door (Hairy Maclary and Friends)

A classic for any child’s bookshelf. My mother read the Hairy Maclary books to me when I was a child and now I’m fondly reading them to my own son. He’s 3.5 years and is at the right age to start understanding the books and the humour in them. He loves Lynley Dodd’s rhymes and accompanying illustrations and laughs like a drain at Slinky Malinki and Stickybeak Sid’s antics. A timeless classic that I fully recommend!

My lovely son is autistic and adores rhyme, repetition and anticipation - this book has that in droves. Clever use of linguistics and a lovely, simple story of a naughty cat and his parrot friend will engage both children and adults with a learning disability alike. I was able to see my son in person today after over 4 months in lockdown and we walked in the park while I recited the catchphrase "Slinky Malinki jumped high off the floor, he swung on a handle and....OPENED a door!" he was laughing so much. I love reading Slinky Malinky books with my daughter. This is another great one. The stories flow so nicely and are fun, we always laugh together when we read these. And we love cats, so we love these books as well!

I've bought these books for all my grandchildren and they love them. Easy to read and really good value.

My husband and I have read this book to our 18 month old child on so many occasions he LOVES the Hairy Maclary series both the dogs and cats. The rhyming in these books is amazing although this particular one is not our favourite in the series, our child does bring it to us to read 3/7 days a week. The illustrations are beautiful I could read these for hours.

Slinky Malinki is all that you could want for a fun rhyming children's book. It also has fab illustrations - see if you can spot your friends from Donaldson's Dairy peeking out on the last page - who does that nose belong to?
