It works super fast too!
UPDATE AFTER JUST OVER A MONTH: This is worth every single penny spent! Two days after I put this in my pool was completely algea free and has remained so. We have had very high temps and humidity (in the 100's) for the last month and my water has been clearer than when I filled it up when it was brand new. I did notice my pump was acting wonky after 5 days so I had to backwash which I was afraid would mess up the progress but it was fine (you're not supposed to backwash for 2 weeks after dropping it in). I did move it to the pump basket after that and no more issues. I have backwashed once since then. I put in one arm and hammer tablet and one chlorine tablet (clorox Xtra blue) once a week and my levels are always perfect. I haven't shocked my pool at all since adding this ball, the amount of money I'm saving on chemicals has made this ball very cost effective! I did notice this morning my pool isn't as clear as it has been and it's time for me to change out the ball. Probably didn't last as long because I backwashed after the first 5 days but I'm not complaining. I'll switch it out and enjoy another 5 weeks or so of a virtually maintenance free pool. Do not hesitate to order this! I didn't take a before picture but I swear this thing is a miracle worker! We put up a 17'x48" summerwaves pool last year and everything was great for 3 weeks. Then the yellow algea appeared. I triple shocked, vacuumed, brushed, over and over and over for weeks but the algea would never fully go away. The water would just be cloudy all the time. I kept my water balanced and just couldn't get it clear no matter what I tried. I finally drained it halfway and refilled, that helped for the last few months of summer but still, it never got really clear again. So this year I emptied the pool, gave it a good scrub and then started over. I had done my research and figured I knew what I did wrong. Things were great this season, opening the pool in May and for two months my water was perfect. Then we had the typical extreme heat and high humidity come in for a week, bam, yellow algea. I was frustrated. I gave it a good scrub and vacuum, and a quadruple shock. Two days later and zero difference. I saw this little thing, even though pricey, based on reviews I had to try it. It came in yesterday and I brushed the walls and floor, backwashed my sand filter and dropped this suckered in the bottom of the skimmer (I have a skimmer/pump that came with the pool and is not turned on, it's connected to the sand filter so putting it in the bottom of the skimmer is the same as putting it in the pump basket for reference). That was at 5pm yesterday. My pool had tons of yellow algea everywhere and the vacuum would only stir it up so I was hoping for a miracle. At 9am this morning I came outside and the pool is almost completely free of the yellow algea! I have a few small spots by the steps that I will see if the vaccum can get and if not I'll just brush it into the water to let the pump filter it out. This is so worth the money! I don't know how high my chlorine is because we have a tropical storm today and I really can't get out to mess with the pool but as of now, if it's too high and won't budge I am perfectly fine with draining some of the water to get rid of that, at least I know for sure algea won't be my problem in the future! If anything changes I will definitely update this review.

Absolutely AWESOME!!
This has been the BEST pool season ever!!! I canโt believe how much money in chemicals I saved using the Pool RX!!!! I waited to write a review as I was very skeptical if this was going to really work. Iโve had it in my pool for 3 months and canโt believe how AWESOME the Pool RX works!! I live in Michigan, get lots of rain and fight with algae every year. After reading the reviews, doing research I bit the bullet hoping to save money on algicide and chemicals. The instructions said do not backwash the filter for 2 weeks after the product dissolved. I have to say, there is no way I have ever gone 2 weeks without backwashing but Iโll be darned, I didnโt have to and the algae was gone and my water has never been so crystal clear!!! I have 18,000 gallons in my pool and the research says you donโt have to shock your water weekly. Again, I thought that was impossible! I did shocked my pool 14 days after added Pool RX - only because I was scared my water would turn cloudy or green even though it was crystal clear. I had to close my floating chlorine thingy because the chlorine levels were so high - which again surprised me because they say youโll use less chlorine and that was so true!! As the end of the season is approaching, Iโve only shocked my pool 3 times this season, used a fraction of the chlorine tabs I always used and canโt believe my water is crystal clear! Iโve always had to add phosphate remover every year and the instructions stated you wonโt have to add any and again, I didnโt!! I canโt believe Iโve only had to spend $75.00 for the Pool RX, have used 6 gallons of liquid chlorine (which I got an awesome sale price of $3.00 a gallon) and approximately 16 of the 3โ chlorine tablets so far this season!!! I absolutely LOVE this product, have recommended to everyone of my pool friends and will definitely use this every year here out!!! Thank you Piol RX!!!

Great little helper for keeping the pool crystal clear!
Iโve been using the blue PoolRx unit for one season now, and itโs honestly become one of my favorite pool maintenance tools. I just drop it in the pump basket at the beginning of the season and let it do its thing โ it helps keep algae away and really seems to take the pressure off my chlorine. My pool is around 8k gallons, and this unit is rated perfectly for that size. Once itโs in, the water stays noticeably clearer with fewer chemical adjustments. Iโve also been able to keep my chlorine levels on the lower end (which is great for the wallet and our skin). I love that it lasts a solid 6 months โ though if youโve got a lot of splash-out or backwashing, it might wear out sooner. Super easy to use, no measuring or mixing, just drop it in. I make sure to replace it every season like they recommend, and so far, no algae issues at all. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to simplify pool care.

Saved us money, chemicals, time, and frustration
We were skeptical when we bought this 5 mos ago as a last ditch attempt to rid our pool of uncontrollable algae despite testing and adding chemicals as recommended by Leslieโs Pool before draining it again. This product is worth every penny and we will continue to purchase as needed, its amazing how well it cleared up and has kept our pool free of algae. We have saved so much in chemicals since using this product, less muriatic acid, alkalinity up, less chlorine. We keep our chlorine at the recommended 1-2 and it really is working. The only problem I had was the first time I removed it from the skimmer to clean the leaves, I placed it on our sandstone deck and it bled blue which stained it. I know I can apply acid and it will clean up, just been lazy about doing it. From then in, when I pull my basket up I just throw the blue container back in the water until I replace my skimmer basket and put it back in. Absolutely amazing!!! Clear water Balanced chemicals with very little effort No more algae No draining my pool Love, love, love this product

helped with allgae, inmensely
This is my second time around using Pool RX. About 3 yrs ago I was having an algae problem and nothing we did would help, I used Pool RX and it kept it crystal blue and we didn't use a lot of chemicals that year. This year because of the extreme heat the algae was worse. My husband replaced the sand in the filter. We backwashed it often. That didn't help, it just got worse. So, I remembered the Pool RX I got previously. My husband thinks it's a gimmick so he doesn't know I got it. The pic above is from about 16 days after I put pool rx. But In reality in about 7 days the pool looked clean (forgot to take pic. sooner) Granted we still chlorinated, vacuumed 1 during the week, and backwashed every morning (Filter clean). Just for these doubters we did this process even before pool RX. Cons: It will turn blonde hair green. Through my research it says to saturate hair with water or conditioner prior to pool use. But my son's friend used lemon or baking soda once he got home. Pros: -Helps with algae - I've used less chemicals. Maintains water clear longer, between chemical maintenance.

True to product description
This product is a miracle worker!! We have a 12'x24' oval above ground pool. When we opened the pool it had some debris on the bottom, as our pool cover blew off. So when we turned the pump on it got cloudy, within four days of putting pool rx in the filter basket a f vacuuming, it was back to crystal clear

Solved my algae problem for now UPDATE to UPDATE to UPDATE
After 2 years of struggling year long with intractable algae, I drained my pool, pressure washed it and refilled so I could start fresh with Pool Rx. It has been 2-3 weeks of warm weather with solar heat now going and not a sign of algae. Plus, the chlorine stays in the pool forever (before it would disappear in half an hour). When I first installed this product, my pool turned as blue as the photo of the plastic mesh on the unit, but now it is the lovely pool color we all want. I've read you need to keep the chlorine levels below 1.0 to avoid plaster stains, so I'll do that and I've switched to a nonchlorine shock (monopersulfate) to try to keep CYA levels down. I am hoping this is the secret formula to avoid the horrible situation I've strugged with for so long. The cost of Pool Rx for six months is less than what I was spending on algae killer every single month! UPDATE: It has been almost 3 months since I installed PoolRx in my newly filled pool. A couple of weeks ago over-100 degree weather started and I started to get algae. Shocked the pool with monopersulfate, added Clorox and then made sure I had chorine tablets and now the algae is mostly gone, but the water is cloudy, there's light green on the pool walls, and I'm kind of wondering if I need to buy the refill. Along the way I discovered another problem: after about a month the silver ball inside the basket got completely clogged with palm tree seeds and it was nearly impossible to get apart. Once I did that and cleaned it, I wrapped it in a porous polyester fabric and that has helped considerably but it is still clogging. I have emailed this company using its "contact us" email address several times and they never reply, so we'll see what happens this time. I just called their 800# again and, like other times, it rang and rang with no answer, not even a machine. It was about 2:00 pm and I am in the same time zone as they are. Why bother putting contact information if nobody is going to reply? BAD customer relations! I find this really frustrating because I have been the most enthusiastic promoter of this product and just need someone to tell me how to tell if I need to recharge it already and whether I can put the unit in my skimmer basket instead of the pump strainer basket, which should help with the clogging. So, I have downgraded this company and its product from 5 stars to 3. UPDATE: It has been a week since I wrote this last update and got an email telling me, once again, to expect a reply to my question in 2 or 3 days. This company doesn't know how to do business with consumers, so it should only be selling through dealers. UPDATE: it has been 2 mod since they said they would get back to me with an answer, and I haven't heard a word. Meantime I used the refill I had bought for the fall shutdown and my pool is doing OK but I certainly can't spend $80 every 2 months, so I am going back to other copper-based algae control products. Maybe with metal inside the Pool Rx cartridge can still be used to generate ions or whatever it does. I am very disappointed in this product and its company! Downgraded to 1 star from 5 and then 3.
