If cloning OS drive to this, get an M2 enclosure
Got it on sale. Been using EVO 960 and EVO 970 in other builds, and they're fast and fantastic. On a mini PC I have, the OS was on an 2.5" SSD. I slapped an M2 SSD in, and could replicate the OS to it no problem. But, wife's laptop had a 125GB M2 SSD as only drive. Didn't have a 2.5" SSD. Got this 1TB EVO 990 as a nice replacement. Saw vids showing how to use an M2 enclosure to easily replicate a laptops old M2 OS drive to the new replacement. But, that would cost $30, I had a 2.5" SSD + 2.5" enclosure already, and I was being cheap. So, I replicated the OS drive to the 2.5" external, tore apart her laptop, installed the blank 1TB EVO 990, and tried booting from external 2.5" SSD. Laptop DID NOT want to boot. Kept going into Windows Recovery like the Windows install was corrupted. Spent 2 days messing around with options. FINALLY.. just popped $30 to buy an M2 enclosure (like I should have from the start). Ripped her laptop apart again, put the old 125GB M2 SSD in, booted.. got into Windows. Put the 1TB EVO 990 into the M2 enclosure. Plugged in, recognized as external drive. Replicated OS drive to it. Tried booting from it, but laptop acted like it was corrupted again. At this point, I figured the laptop was just prima donna and had issues booting from external drives. So, on a leap of faith I ripped apart her laptop AGAIN and slapped the cloned 1TB EVO 990 in. After putting it all back together AGAIN, it booted just fine into Windows, and now she has TONS of drive space left. So, if you're getting this as a replacement for a laptop's M2 drive... don't be stupid like me and waste a bunch of time. Just buy an M2 Enclosure and make replication easy on yourself. I ran some winsat times on my old EVO 960 vs EVO 990, and the 990 is getting ~1000 MB/s on random 16 vs the 960 ~1400 MB/s. So, the 990 seems slower there. But, on the 64 bit read/write, 990 is getting ~3200 MB/s on BOTH, while the 960 is getting ~3000 on the read and ~1800 on the write. So, the 990 is blazing along. It's also newer than the 960 I have, which may be seeing wear-n-tear impact performance. So, I may eventually get one of these to replace my 960, too. like 3200 MB/s on

Big Upgrade from my Previous SSD, Easy to Install, Fast, and Good Price!
This 990 EVO SSD (2TB) is an excellent upgrade for my laptop, especially after my OEM drive failed. I handle a lot of photography work, so having a high-capacity, high-speed SSD was essential, and this fits my need fantastically so far. Installation was quick and easy, the SSD was recognized right away after some driver installation, and formatted with no compatibility issues, even on my older laptop. Compared to the Kingston drive that originally came with my machine, the 990 EVO is definitely faster, with file transfers, boot times, and application loading all seeing noticeable improvements. The stated speeds of up to 5,000MB/s are about double my previous drive as well, so it seems on point, and read/write speeds overall are much better. The design and build quality feels reliable and less flimsy too. For 2TB of storage at this price point, especially from a trusted brand, it's a fantastic value. So far, it’s been performing flawlessly, and I’d definitely recommend it for anyone needing a performance and capacity boost.

Blazing Fast External Storage and Essential for my Video Editing Workflows
My primary need was a portable solution for storing and actively editing large video assets and project files without cluttering the internal drives of my various Macs. It had to be fast enough to handle high-bitrate 4K footage without lag or dropped frames. The Setup: Perfect Synergy I paired the Samsung 990 EVO 1TB SSD (PCIe Gen 4x4, Gen 5x2) with a Sabrent USB 3.2 Type-C Tool-Free Enclosure. The combination is absolute perfection. I formatted the drive as APFS for seamless integration with the macOS ecosystem. Performance: Truly Internal-Equivalent Speed This is where the 990 EVO truly shines. The speed is lightning fast. I can confidently edit multi-track video projects directly off this external drive. Real-World Speed: The performance is so responsive that it is virtually indistinguishable from having the SSD installed directly inside the computer. This incredible speed and efficiency have been a game-changer, allowing me to jump between desktop and laptop Macs instantly without asset transfer delays. Reliability: I've used faulty external drives in the past, leading to lost work. This Samsung drive is rock-solid and has not given me a single error or performance hiccup. Investment Value and Reliability Given its performance and build quality, the Samsung 990 EVO is an incredibly effective and valuable investment for any creative professional. It offers the speed and reliability needed for production work at a price point that makes it a smart choice over proprietary external solutions. I fully intend to purchase more of these drives as my storage needs grow. Final Verdict If you are a Mac user or professional needing portable, internal-equivalent SSD speeds for resource-intensive tasks like video editing, the Samsung 990 EVO is the gold standard. Highly recommended.

High writing speeds and storage for gaming
I got this to replace my prebuilt PC but to also use as a second SSD. Turns out it might be better to just use it as a dedicated storage so I dont have to redownload everything and reformat all the drives. I did download a clean install of windows on it but then decided to stick with my other one and use this for videos and gaming storage. Installing it was easy, normal SSD size but I DID notice it psychically felt better than my intel one from my prebuilt. You can feel quality! The SSD is all black and has 2 stickers on the back for heat distribution which helps along with my heatsink. It runs BETTER even in the 2nd SSD slot with fast writing speeds and noticeably faster transferring files. I'm not a huge tech person even though I do game and build my own PC, whoah I know lol, but even I can tell the samsung 990 evo is a beast, and that says something if I out of everyone can see that! Highly reccomended.

As an avid tech enthusiast, I've recently upgraded my system with the Samsung EVO 990 NVMe Drive, and I must say, it's nothing short of phenomenal. From lightning-fast speeds to rock-solid reliability, this SSD is an excellent addition to any setup. First off, let's talk about performance. Whether it's booting up my system, loading large files, or running intensive applications, the EVO 990 handles it all with ease, thanks to its NVMe technology. But it's not just about speed; reliability matters too. Samsung's reputation for quality precedes them, and the EVO 990 lives up to the hype. I've put this drive through its paces with countless write cycles, and it hasn't skipped a beat. With Samsung's advanced error correction and endurance-enhancing features, I can trust this drive with my most important data without a second thought. Installation was a breeze, thanks to the included software and clear instructions. And with Samsung's intuitive management tools, keeping my drive optimized and up-to-date is a cinch. I received a genuine product. It works on gen 3
I took one star off because Samsung's, highly hailed, "Magician" software doesn't do the trick they claim it does. I'm writing this to save you all the trouble...just do a fresh install with a USB. (Nothing else in the box...just the drive and instructions.) So, after four tries at "Migrating" and changing every setting in the book, I ended up reinstalling Windows11 and updating Windows and all of my drivers for half a day. Then I had to reinstall "Magician" to get the NVME's driver to update. I should probably take another star off because it is benchmarking slower than my old drive...but it does seem really smooth in operation and I really only wanted it because of the #2 efficiency reviews. The Windows install was a pretty scary experience...the display kept on flashing/flickering out and after that completed Samsung's firmware refused to be firmware. The only way to update the driver is with Magician....which I should have done first. The price at the time that I clicked on it was the lowest ever...so I was concerned it would be a knockoff or used. (990EVO $59 USD 1tb Price is now $85, one week later.) I'm somewhat different from most people because I keep my old drives for my next computer. This morning Amazon's cloud computers were hit by the Aliens from 3i/Atlas. Now, I have to figure out how to get my old drives back in their slots... (Two drives labeled "C" in one computer...just so that I can change the drive letter?)

Blazing Fast, Energy Smart – A Worthy Upgrade!
I upgraded my PC with the Samsung 990 EVO 2TB SSD and couldn't be happier. Installation was seamless, and the performance boost was immediate—boot times, file transfers, and app launches are lightning fast thanks to its PCIe 5.0 x2 interface and up to 5,000MB/s read speeds. What impressed me most is the energy efficiency—noticeably cooler and more power-conscious than my previous drive. Samsung’s Intelligent TurboWrite and HMB technology really keep things smooth under load. Whether you're gaming, editing, or just multitasking, this SSD handles it all effortlessly. Highly recommended for anyone looking to future-proof their system with speed and reliability.
