Well built
The saw has a lot of nice features, cast base (not stamped), 1500 rpm with soft start, has Diablo blade, the saw seems to be very well built. I like it is 12 inch rather than 14 inch blade as it's quite a bit cheaper to replace which you know you will have to do.

So much better than a cut-off disc!
Comes with great blade and cuts very well. Glad I found this, was about to get an abrasive cut-off saw.

Great power, well designed and made, great tool!
This saw is a great addition to my shop. It's very well designed and produced. It was ready to use right out of the box. We've been cutting all manner of mild steel with it and have been very pleased at how well the saw with the original blade is performing. The "soft" or two-step start is great for not tripping circuit breakers that will otherwise trip with the sudden amperage draw associated with competing saws that have the "hard" or full power start.Let me point out to anybody who buys this saw that it is essential to mount the saw on a very sturdy work surface so that it cannot shift around during cutting. The piece of material being worked must also be firmly under control, locked down or supported properly so that neither the clamped portion nor the cut off portion can seize or bind the spinning blade. This, more than anything, is what causes premature wear or ruination of a dry cut toothed blade.

Nice Saw - Alternative to Evolution
The advantage is it's lighter than Evolution Saws with cast alum base. This makes it more portable. Disadvantage is 12" Blade will not be able to handle as big or wide stock if you plan on going bigger than 4x4" stock (I think that's the SkilSaw limit but would have to double check). The other advantage is 12" Diablo blades 60T can be bought for under $50 while the 14" cost jump to $90~$100 for steel cutting. 15" blade is even more. Saw is louder then I expected but the sound is from the built in fan to cool the motor. Noise while cutting is still quieter than using an abrasive saw. Previous pricing was lower, not sure what is happening but newly listed units are more at $50~$100 higher.

Slow. Smooth = Fast......Time saver
Slow, smooth, fast. We've used abrasive chop saws for years. Had the opportunity to purchase a "cold chop saw" 9 years ago. There's a bit of a learning curve. Go slow, set work piece so it won't get bit by the blade and like a abr. chop saw, let the tool do the work. That saw worked great until the drive became separated from the arbor.Shopped around for a replacement for a few months and got a deal on this Skil.Slow start motor helps w longevity. It's lighter than the 14" it replaced yet has about the same cutting capacity.Great for angles, minimal clean up before welding, and keeping shop clean. We'll see how it holds up

A solid machine.
It's a beautiful saw, first cuts were flawless, very wide base. It feels very stable, with a very nice start up. It has a button lock down rather than a chain like some of its competitors. Very, very happy with this purchase, worth the money. 10 times nicer than my old abrasive chop saw. The only thing left is the test of time, but I'm not to worried. :) I'll be posting a video review to Youtube.

It’s sketching me out.
On my 12th cut. I bent the blade somehow. Also on my first cut, the blade notched the base plate a little. Yes, the blade was tight...
