Works first time

I bought the Wifi X version. Once the data logger has been set up properly the app works fine and I have had no issues monitoring the panels yet. I have only been using the Dongle for a couple of days so I cannot judge yet on reliability.Having said that not everything has been smooth, the initials steps to get the user account and the data logger working were to say the least very frustrating. Growatt needs to make a better updated manual and improve the set up process to make it easier for their users to monitor their PV installations.Given that I had many issues setting the dongle up and that I spent a few hours googling for solutions I have decide to add the list of hurdles and how I solved them in this review in case it can help someone trying to set pv monitoring up.The fisrt hurdle is setting the account, for this purpose you will need to get the installers growatt code and the Inverters capacity. You can set the account in the shine app. The difficult part is getting the installer code if you don't have one as you may need to spend time writing emails and contacting the installers support team. I recommend to set up the account before you buy the dongle. Also please note the 'capacity' which is a field in the form refers to the Inverters capacity.The second hurdle was getting the data logger to connect to my wifi. I got many errors and the instructions are not clear. The missing bits in the instructions are that you need to disable your cellular mobile data in your phone before you begin setup, and that when you try to connect to the dongle there is a password which is '12345678'.The last hurdle was that the mobile app would not show the data logger no matter haw many configurations attempts or after waiting for a few hours. In every attempt the data logger would show intermittent blue status light meaning it was communicating correctly with the growatt server, however the mobile app would just refuse to show the data logger and therefore the mobile app would not show any monitoring data.To solve the last hurdle fortunately i found another way. I used my laptop (not my mobile) to login and access the growatt server website, their website has 'add' data logger functionality. For this purpose I recommend you take a picture of the back of the data logger before installing that clearly shows the serial number and something called the cc number as it is required in the process.Once I could see my PV monitoring data in the website in my laptop I restarted the app in my mobile phone and everything from this point on has been working as it should.

Unless you have a lifetime to waste trying to figure out this thing and the terrible app that comes with it, buy something different. Your mental health professional will thank you for it!!
