Real Bacon Bits Pouch, 6 Ounce (Pack of 6)

First, I love the smokey flavor of these bacon bits. Second, they stay fresh in the fridge after opening. HOWEVER, I didn't see the 'refrigerate after opening' instructions on the first pouch I opened (even though I looked for it!) so I threw out one of the six pouches in this box. Next, once opened, I recommend dipping out the amount you need with a fork or spoon rather than pouring from the pouch. Once closed, if greasy, the pouch becomes hard to reopen since it seals tightly. These are real smoked bacon bits. The taste is great in/on potatoes, steak, salads, eggs, basically anything where bacon is enjoyed. There is sufficient fat from the bacon, not all lean, but mostly lean. I hunt for ways to use this product it is so good. Six pouches for a household of two is a bit much but the size of each pouch keeps the contents fresh. This will be a staple in my kitchen from now on.

The only issue I have with the Hormel Real Bacon Bits, 6 Ounce Pouch is -- they are not larger pouches. The bacon bits taste fresh and very very little fat. I throw them in scrabble eggs, omelets, mac and cheese and on my fresh salads, etc. This is a product to buy again and again. I feel I actually eat less of bacon by buying the bits but receive the same savory, salty crunch that is hugely satisfying. Hormel Real Bacon Bits are a fantastic way to reduce salt intake. They give my dishes additional flavor and I don't need to add any additional table salt. Hormel Real Bacon Bits, 6 Ounce Pouch (Pack of 6) came well packaged and arrived in timely manner. This is a five star product but I reduced by one star for the small package size of six ounces. Of course this is double the standard of most bacon bits of 2.75 to 3 ounce at several stores. I was just about to five a five star when I discovered 20 ounce bags. As many of you know, I extremely rarely give a fifth star because there is always room for improvement. The improvement here is MORE BACON BITS please. NOTE: I don't refridigate mine once open. Product is very good. We like how convenient it is. A bit expensive.

Normally this product is excellent - well cooked, good texture and very little fat or fatty pieces. However, in this batch ALL SIX BAGS in the case are undercooked, super greasy and half of the bits are just fat/gristle. You can see the grease/fat coating the clear window of the packages. It MIGHT be cooked well enough to be SAFE to eat straight from the bag, cooked first or be shelf stable long enough to use all 6 bags, but I don't want to take that chance. While it does happen on occasion (as other reviewers have noted the same issue) I will still continue to order it as the majority of the bags/cases have been perfect.

For anyone that is on a clean eating or low carb based lifestyle, these are perfect for adding in extra protein! They are moist and pack great flavor. Not like the ones in grocery stores where you feel like you might have chipped a tooth by eating them because they're so hard, like rocks, and lack flavor. We keep these on our shelves via subscribe and save. Don't want to be without them!
