Product: XL In pictures/video - Subaru key fob and aftermarket car starter fob. ***ONE MONTH UPDATE**** - Got this just in time and it saved me from what could have been an emergency situation. I brought my dog to Lowes and after being outside for a while he was getting hot. I loaded him into the car so I could get the AC running soon and put some plants in the trunk. I accentally left my keys in the trunk of the SUV, and when I closed the trunk, the car locked. I was frantic because it was over 90 degrees and my already hot dog was now locked in the car windows up. I then remembered the second key tucked away in this case and was able to use it and open the car. It saved my dog's life and kept me from having to break/replace a window. This key case stayed securely attached to the underside of the vehicle frame through maintained dirt roads, long road trips, super gnarly storms with hurricane force wind gusts, and minor street flooding from severe storms. The key fob worked perfectly with no issues and was still dry. ---------------------------- Pros: - Fits a standard key fob (3.75 in L) no problem or is wide enough for an after market car starter fob - Magnets are super strong and stick easily to the frame of a vehicle without need of metal plate and requires effort to remove (nice and secure) - metal plate is great if needed for storage on a non-ferrous location - water/dust proof checks out so far - water stops at seals - clip for opening and closing is very secure - hole for lanyard is built in should you want to take this bring this to adventures in the water Cons - Magnets are very strong and may even attract to items within the case. Unknown if this will affect the electronics of the key fobs long term, but had no issues with key fob still working in the short time after it was in the case (will update review after time has passed) Other: people complaining about keys not fitting probably have the original size and may have failed to measure the length of their keys/fobs before purchasing (I failed to measure the first time and got another brand that ended up being too short by a 1/4inch, which is why I opted for this one).

Build quality is A+ Nice strong magnets w/strong 3M adhesive backed polished steel mounting plate if needed. The sealing gasket on the lid seals securely & the latching mechanism is of very high quality, latches closed nice and tight and unlatches easily. Fits my 2014 F150 XLT key perfectly.

These were very easy to install right on my gate. The metal plate with 3M tape makes it perfect for things that are not even magnetic. They’re easy to pull off open up and get the key out quickly. Highly recommend this product. And you can see by the picture they blended extremely well so really if you don’t know, they’re there you might even miss it.

Works fine and it appears to be adequately sealed to prevent water intrusion. It's large enough to fit several standard keys and car keys that do not have a fob as part of the key. Its worth noting that I would hesitate to put this on a vehicle - the magnets are strong enough for stationary use but I don't know that they could withstand the vibrations being attached to a car especially if you have a heavy car key inside. If you do plan on using it for this purpose, I would recommend adding a few more strong magnets to it. It's a bit over-priced but it serves my purpose and most other brands are junk.

Ever since locking my keys in my running car one time at a campground far from help (eventually, with a MacGyver-esque contraption consisting of two wooden dowels duct taped together, a coat-hanger, and a shovel to pry the top corner of the door open just a smidge so I could get it through to push the unlock button, I got in!!), I have had a spare key for my car hidden underneath in one of these devices. I wasn't sure how well the magnet would hold, so I also used zip ties fastened to another part under the car and through the hole on the side of this case to at least prevent it from disappearing if it got knocked loose. But now, two years later, it is still holding strong, and has not fallen off once!!! And that includes driving on pot-holed streets in Manhattan, *unbelievably* bad streets in an industrial area of Brooklyn, and dirt roads in upstate NY (saved my butt one time, too, when yes, I locked my backpack in my car forgetting that I had just put my keys in it :-P ). Notes: 1) I have not tried the self-adhesive steel plate, since I was able to find a flat piece of my car frame underneath where it sticks like a champ with no other work required, so I can't vouch for that part of the item. 2) Like any other magnet, it WILL NOT stick to aluminum, fiberglass, plastic, and some types of stainless steel (that's just physics, not the fault of this product). So maybe use some other magnet first to explore where you might be able to get it to stick before you buy it (or any other magnetic device like it). Heartily recommended!

I've already hidden my key in a place that's not easy to reach, so I don't feel like taking pictures for the review. If you have wrought iron around your house, or have a good hidden surface to affix the metal plate, this is a fantastic hide-a-key. I live in an old multi-story house with wrought iron stairs, fire escape, and fencing, so I have a plethora of options. The magnet on this box is really strong. It's not easy pulling it off of metal. If you choose to use the plate, make sure you clean the surface before adhesion. I imagine the Hideout may rip that plate off if you don't have a good seal. As others mentioned, the box is small. I had to remove a medium sized keyring because the lid wouldn't close. Not a big deal, this is for a spare key and I'd rather have a bombproof lid than be able to fit items inside the box that aren't keys. The size of the Hideout and the black color should blend really well with most areas you'll hide it. I know exactly where it is, it's not fully hidden from sight, and I cannot spot it without a strong flashlight. I really don't think you can find a better product to hide a key at this price point. It is superior to the obvious tricks like fake rocks and other decorative items.

If you don't trust the magnet, then it has a loop to use a zip tie to attach it to the frame. And it's waterproof, so you can't ask for more!

Very strong magnets, additional metal plate if wanting to attach it to a non-metal surface, seems shock and water proof with a good seal. Good size for longer/odd shaped key/s or a key fob, only down side is that there isn't any way to lock it, thought maybe the hole on the back could support a padlock for added security but just seems to be a hole for a hook/carabiner, would be 5 star if there was a little loop attached to both the lid and body that a small padlock could fit into and keep secure.

Strong magnet and easy to hide. Sufficient space inside for me.
