One of the best on reincarnation
I'm writing a master's thesis on reincarnation, and it has been quite challenging to find books that are as thorough and comprehensive as the work of TenDam. Thank you Hans for what you have done with your depth of research and clarity of presentation!! It is deeply appreciated. I recommend this book very highly to anyone who wants to understand the detail as well as the scope of the vast topic of reincarnation.

An Indispensable Reference Work
Although there are already several praising reviews of this work, I thought I might add my own praise. This work has been on the market for over a decade and has had time to establish itself as a classic in its field. It is, basically, without parallel. There is nothing else that I know of which casts its net so wide. If you have become interested in past life regression studies, and are wondering how they stack up against the traditional belief systems on reincarnation, as exemplified by Buddhism, Hinduism, all the lesser known rest, and the more modern systems of Theosophy and Anthroposophy, this is not only the book for you, this is the only book for you. While Rabbi Gershom's critique here is, without doubt, rightly deserved, it should not deter you from purchasing this fine study By Hans Ten Dam. If you are beyond your introductory new age book on past lives, whatever it is, then you are ready to graduate to this.It could be bettered, but that task has not yet be attempted.gordon phinn (wordofgord)

The most thorough overview and literature study currently available!
I stumbled into this book in the public library a few weeks ago and I'm certainly going to buy it for further reference in the future. It's an eye opener of the best kind! I fully agree with Marc Borisovsky - this is the most complete overview that you can get. I'm glad that this book is available in English too, so that it will reach more people.First, Hans ten Dam describes reincarnation beliefs in several spiritual and religious settings incl. the three monotheistic religions, hinduism, buddhism, nature religions and recently developed beliefs like theosophy and anthroposophy. The next part of the book contains experiences with reincarnation from different points of view (children's memories, spontaneous and induced regressions, paranormal activities (e.g. through mediums) etc.) Hans ten Dam discusses many questions that may arise, like: the probability of other explanations for the past life experiences, whether we can reincarnate in animal bodies, the way karma works, how experiences and different beliefs correspond etc.The author read a vast number of books on the subject and rates most of them in the text and in the literature list in the back of the book. This is very useful for further reading, because many books that contain sheer nonsense can be omitted immediately.Although Ten Dam, a regression therapist himself, is a firm 'believer', he looks at other possibilities to explain memories of past lifes (false memories, fraud, déjà vu etc.) in a very serious way. Also he dares to criticize religious beliefs and work of other authors in the field (often accompanied by a dry sense of humor that made me role on the floor laughing ;-) Especially the chapter on new age beliefs is great in that regard). If you're interested in reincarnation - either from a professional or from a layman's point of view (and obviously you are, because otherwise you wouldn't be reading this) - I would certainly recommend this book to you. Although the first chapters may seem a bit 'dry', you most probably won't be disappointed :-)

Exploring Reincarnation book review.
When I originally bought the book I was turned off by it because its description was too pompous. I thought to myself "no book can be so good". However, now I regret that I wasted so much time reading other related books and not this from the start. This book is a tool for students of the soul and a point of reference. You cannot read once and leave it on a bookshelf. For a serious student of the phenomenon of reincarnation or other "metaphysical" or paranormal matters, this book is indeed the landmark for many years to come. You will have it on your desktop and refer to it from time to time. Hans TenDam did an excellent job in piling up an enormous amount of related information and experiences from diverse sources and placing them together in a meaningful and understandable book. The structure of the book makes it practical and a state of the art. I would call it "down-to-earth spirituality". If you are a psychologist that wants to help your clients and not just make money this read is a must. If you are a transpersonal psychotherapist, a transcendental psychiatrist, or, an alternative hypnotherapist you should not go on practicing without reading this book. You cannot go on pretending that nothing is happening. Evidence for the existence of reincarnation is piling daily and you better open your mind to this prospect. Hans TenDam is not only a great researcher he is also a therapist and a great teacher. He is also one of the leading figures of this field worldwide. What I found extremely useful is the book rating of each book at the massive bibliography section. After the title of each book he added a number from zero to five, thus evaluating to his mind the importance of reading this book. I could hardly disagree with any of his ratings, which was indeed very helpful. This book is not only informative but it makes a really good read. You will enjoy every bit of it even if you are not a researcher of the occult and esoteric thinking. You will feel impressed by the magnitude, the range and scope of this book that must have taken a whole life to write. The weak point of this book is the letter size and the cheap paperback edition. If you are at the beginning of farsightedness then you will certainly fuss at the publisher. I would certainly look for a future version of this book in a hardbound edition with far bigger fonts.Athanasios Komianos

As a keen student of PLT found this book worth reading again and again. Feel like engulfing it in one go. Couldn't..Wll recommend for all research workers , psychiatrist , regression therapist. As a supplement to Deep healing and transformation, if one read it will excellent.
