The World's Greatest Gospel Singer [+ Sunday at Newport Jazz Festival 1958 album]

These forty-five tracks are the world's greatest contribution to sung Christianity. They adorn God appropriately. There is worship and praise on every level. There is deep, sincere, lovely faith displayed and portrayed. I can not tell you just how good this is! For me, Mahalia Jackson is still the world's unchallenged best singer of gospel music. These recordings are in excellent condition. I can listen and listen again and still find new beauty and meaning. (I have one little niggle - I wish that the recording company had included more information in the package about the life of this great artist and who her accompanying musicians were and when and where these recordings were made. Other than the titles of the songs there is no information.)

It is not often that I get excited about an old recording, but this really is something special. You certainly don't need to be religious to appreciate this, these are just some of the most magnificent soulful vocals that you are likely to hear. Mahalia undoubtedly ranks as one of the all time great singers and it is just amazing that so few people know about her these days.

Mahalia Jackson was the greatest Gospel singer ever born, all my recordings of her were lost or borrowed and not returned so I am glad to have these recordings from Amazon.

Childhood memories, my mums fav singer in the 50s

Well titled. This woman was THE ultimate gospel singer. She broke all the rules musically but her passion for the Lord shone through everything she did. Wonderful!!!! I am truly blessed listening to my precious sister in Christ.
